Each layer is pushed thrugh a print head t frm an bject with a desired shape, texture, size, and s frth. Perfrming acts f kindness and helping ther peple can be gd fr peple’s health and well-being. That’s accrding t a new research published by the American Psychlgical Assciatin. But nt all gd-hearted behavir is equally beneficial t the giver. The strength f the link depends.
“Prscial behavir—selflessness, cperatin, trust, and sympathy—are all necessary cmpnents f a harmnius and well-functining sciety,” said lead authr Bryant P.H. Hui. “It is part f the shared culture f humankind, and ur analysis shws that it als cntributes t mental and physical health.” Previus studies have suggested that peple wh engage in mre prscial behavir are happier and have better mental and physical health than thse wh dn’t spend as much time helping thers.
Hwever, nt all studies have fund evidence fr that link, and the strength f the cnnectin varies widely in the research literature (资料). T better understand what drives that variatin, Hui and his clleagues analyzed 201 independent studies that lked at the cnnectin between prscial behavir and well-being.
Overall, they fund that there was a mdest link between the tw. But it is still meaningful, accrding t Hui, given hw many peple perfrm acts f kindness every day. “A mdest effect size can still have a significant impact at a scial level when many peple are participating in the behavir,” Hui said.
Digging deeper int the research, published in Psychlgical Bulletin, Hui and his clleagues fund that randm acts f kindness, such as helping an lder neighbr carry grceries, were mre strngly assciated with verall well-being than frmal prscial behavir, such as scheduled vlunteering fr a charity.
Researchers might als examine whether mre prsciality is always a gd thing, r whether there is an “ideal level” f prsciality beynd which t much kindness and giving becme harmful t the giver, accrding t Hui.
