The artwrk is cnsidered the ldest grup f human cave drawings that have ever been discvered. The drawings were created tens f thusands f years ag befre human histry was written. They were preserved because the cave was clsed ff fr mre r less 23,000 years.
Fast frward t December 18, 1994, a grup f French cave scientists were explring caves in suthern France. Jean-Marie Chauvet, wh led the grup then, described the prcess f discvering the cave paintings. "At that time I was in the frnt, Eliette just walked behind me, Christian behind. Eliette said she saw tw marks made with red chre and she said, 'They came here.' And at this very mment everything began. The drawings and everything were linked t the parietal art. That is where it started." Cave art expert Jean Clttes reviewed the paintings. "I was amazed at the number f paintings there and their quality."
