Teaching procedure
Step 1 Warming-up
Show Ss some pictures about a film The Wondering Earth and ask them three questions.
Q1: Have you ever seen this film?
Q2: What’s the story about?
Q3: Do you believe there are other planets for people to live on?
Then have a guess, show Ss some pictures about the equipment for space exploration.
Ask Ss some questions:
Q1: Do you know some equipment for space exploration?
Q2: Do you know their functions?
P1: Space Station
It’s a manned satellite designed for scientific research.
P2: Spacecraft
It can travel in outer space.
P3: Rocket
It can lift the space shuttle into space.
Step 2 Pre-reading
Before you read, look at the title and the photos. Show Ss three pictures and ask some questions.
The title:

Step 3 While-reading
Task 1: Read the text. Several sentences have been removed from the text. Choose the correct sentences [A-D] to fill each gap.
A. Although scientists try to make sure nothing goes wrong, accidents can still happen.
