    3. Why des the authr chse t use different frms f verbs in the tw sentences?
    In sentence (a), a wman is swimming. In ther wrds, the wman des the actin f swimming. S the authr uses -ing. But in sentence (b) , peple are frightened. As a result passive vice is used. S the authr uses -ed.

    现在分词、过去分词做宾语补足语
    -ing / -ed as cmplement
    Presentatin
    英语中有些及物动词,接了宾语意义仍不完整,还需要宾语补足语来补充说明宾语的意义、状态等。这类常用的及物动词有:
    make, cnsider, cause, see, find, call, get, have, let, etc.
    E.g. We think him clever.
    带有宾语补足语的一般句型为:
    What he said made me angry.They cnsider the answer crrect.Everyne calls him Tm.
    某些及物动词 + 直接宾语 + 宾语补足语
    His father named him Daming. They painted their huse white. Yu mustn’t frce him t lend his mney t yu.4. We saw her entering the rm. 5. We must get the wrk finished by 10 ’clck. 6. We take English as a useful tl fr research wrk.7. Let the fresh air in.
    可以充当宾语补足语的词和词组有:
    8. Whenever yu may g, yu will find him at wrk. 9. The plant has its wn name. Yu cannt call it what yu will.
    1.动词-ing形式作宾语补足语常放在宾语后面, 表示一个正在进行的主动性的动作,强调一个 过程或一种状态。例:
    We fund the cat eating a muse. 我们发现那只猫正在吃老鼠。
    When we returned t the schl, we fund a strangerstanding at the entrance.
    当我们回到学校时,发现一个陌生人站在大门口。
    I fund a bag lying n the grund.
    我发现地板上放着一个包。
    2.能用-ing形式作宾语补足语的几类动词:
    表示感觉和心理状态的动词, 常见的有see, hear, feel, smell, find, ntice, bserve, lk at, listen t等。
    We saw a light burning in the windw.
    I felt smebdy patting me n the shulder.
    As he spke, he bserved everybdy lking at him curiusly.Listen t the birds singing. I didn’t ntice him waiting.
    表示指使意义的动词, 常见的有have, set, keep, get, catch, leave等。如:
    I’m srry t have kept yu waiting. I can’t get the clck ging again.Yu wn’t catch me ding that again.
    1.感官动词 feel, find, hear, ntice, see, watch等表示感觉和心理状态的动词之后, 表示“感受到某人或某事被做”。 例:
    I was sleeping when I heard my name called.
    He was disappinted t find his suggestins turned dwn.
    我正在睡觉时听到有人叫我的名字。
    他失望地发现他的建议被拒绝了。
    2.使役动词 get, have, make, keep, leave 等后, 可用过去分词做宾语补足语, 表示 “致使某人或某事被……” 例:
    We shuld keep them infrmed f what is ging n here.
    Jane gt her bad tth pulled ut at the dentist’s.
    我们应该让他们知道这里发生了什么事。
    简在牙医那里把她的坏牙拔掉了。
    3.表示“意欲; 命令”的动词如: like, rder, want, wish后, 表示“希望、要求某人或某事 被做”。 例:
    The father wants his daughter taught the pian.
    I wish these letters typed as sn as pssible.
    这位父亲想让他的女儿学钢琴。
    我希望这些信件能尽快(被)打印出来。
