Teaching procedures

Step 1  Warming up & Revision

1. Greet the class.

2. Ask and answer.

What’s the date today?       What day is it today?

What’s the weather like today?

What do you have for breakfast today?

What do you have today?       How old are you?

Step 2  Presentation & Practice

1. Compare and say according to the photos.

  Mike is 13. Tom is 3. So Mike is young, but Tom is younger than Mike. And then show them the word younger. Lead them to read. And tell them this is the comparative adjective.

2. Show them the phonetic symbols, ask them to read and say. Pay

  attention to the pronunciation of younger.

3. Present the sentence and ask them to read and say. Pay atten-

tion to the pronunciation of than.

4. Present the other new words older/taller/shorter/longer.

5. Use the original and comparative adjectives to find out the

differences. Let them get the rules to change the words.

6. Practice these words by dividing the class into boys and girls

group to read. Pay attention to the pronunciations.

7. Put the sentences we’ve shown on PPT together. Ask the Ss to find out the sentence structure.

8. Use the pictures of Yao Ming and Jordan to teach the height.     How to read 2.26 metres and 1.98 metres.

Then let Ss make the sentence with comparative adjectives.

9. Use the same way and the sentence structure to practice.

  The red ruler is longer than the blue ruler.

  Zeng Zhiwei is 1.6 metres. Pan Changjiang is 1.56 metres.

  Pan Changjiang is shorter than Zeng Zhiwei…

10. Listen and imitate.    

11. Lead the students to read the words and text from the book.

   Then try to recite it.
