    一、阅读选择
Wildlife faces threats from habitat destruction, pollution and other human actions. Although protecting wildlife can seem difficult at times, even small actions in your own neighborhood can help protect many different animals. As the saying goes, “Think globally and act locally.” You can protect wildlife for future generations.
Create wildlife-friendly areas in your backyard. When choosing your lawn and landscaping, choose native plants that can provide food or living places for native wildlife. This will also help cut down on pollution. Add bird or bat houses to your yard or garden to attract these species and offer places to them to live in.
Avoid disrupting (扰乱) the natural ecosystem in our area. Non-native plants or animals can destroy habitats, particularly if there is no natural predator (捕食性动物) to keep the species in a certain amount. They can kill or disturb native plants that provide food and living places for wildlife.
Practice a greener lifestyle. By saving water and fossil fuels, you will be helping to protect the wildlife around you. Take public transportation when you can, turn off electric devices when you’re not using them, take shorter showers and keep your heat at or below 20℃ during the winter. Become knowledgeable about what can cause global warming, which disrupts migration patterns and habitats.
Buy products that are wildlife friendly. Avoid products that are made from threatened or endangered animals. Keep in mind that some endangered animals are killed by traps, or hunters who are after other wildlife within the same habitat.
Talk to or write to policymakers about protecting wildlife. Write letters to a local newspaper. Discuss ways to help animals with friends and family members.
Limit the family size. Population growth is one of the major factors in habitat destruction. By living in established city limits and limiting the family size to around two children per family, the earth’s population will stabilize (稳定) and native habitats can be protected.
1.What’s the main idea of the first paragraph?
A.It is impossible to protect wildlife.
B.You can protect wildlife by taking small actions.
C.Protecting wildlife needs ideas rather than actions.
D.Humans are big threats to wildlife in fact.
2.What should we do to protect wildlife?
A.Stop non-native plants and animals destroying the natural ecosystem.
    B.Know more knowledge about wildlife.
C.Increase the number of the population in the world.
D.Write letters about animals to your friends.
3.Which of the following can be taken as a greener lifestyle?
A.Planting native trees in your backyard.
B.Keeping the water above 20℃ when you are bathing.
C.Taking a bus when you are going out.
    D.Only eating vegetables.
4.What’s the best title for the text?
    A.Why global warming affects wildlife
B.Whether we are friendly to wildlife
    C.What makes wildlife endangered
    D.How we can protect wildlife

Are you carrying too much on your back at school? I’m sure lots of children of your age will say “Yes”. Not only do the students in China have this problem, but children in the United States also have heavy school bags.
Doctors are starting to worry that younger and younger students are having back and neck problems as a result of school bags being too heavy for them.
“It’s hard for me to go upstairs with my bag because it’s so heavy,” said Rick Hammond, an 11-year-old student in the US.
Rick is among students who have common school bags with two straps (带子) to carry them, but many other students choose rolling bags(拉杆包).
But even with rolling bags, getting upstairs and buses is still a problem for children. Many of them have hurt their backs or necks because of the heavy school bags.
But how much is too much? Doctors say students should carry no more than 10% to 15% of their own body weight.
Scott Bautch, a doctor, said children under Grade 4 should stay with 10%. But it is also important that older children don’t stay with over 15%, because their bodies are still growing. “Children are losing their balance and falling down with their school bags,” he said.
Parents and teachers are starting to tell children to only take home library books they will be reading that night. Some teachers are using pieces of paper or thin workbooks for students to take home.
One of the best answers is, as some children said, to have no homework at all!

An advance in electronic publishing could make the e-book you are reading seem as dated as a silent film. Publishers hope to explore the growing success of e-books by releasing versions with added soundtracks(电影配音)and musical accompaniments.
The noises in the first multimedia books — released in Britain on Friday - include rain hitting a window in a Sherlock Holmes tale. When the plot of a book reaches the most exciting part, background scores will create tension.
Supporters argue that sound effects are the next logical development for e-books and will add excitement for younger readers. Critics, however, will argue that the noise will ruin the simple pleasure of having the imagination stimulated by reading.
Caroline Michel, chief executive of the literary agency, said the new generation of computer- literate readers was used to multiple sensory input. She said, “Young people have split computer screens where they may be watching television and replying to an email at the same time. If that's what the market wants then we should respond to the market.”
Book track's sound effects work by estimating the user's reading speed. Each lime you turn a page, the software reassesses where you have reached in the text and times the sounds to switch on accordingly. If the soundtrack becomes out of synch (同步),a click on any word will reset it.
Some authors fear that a soundtrack could destroy the peace and quiet of libraries and ruin the pleasure, of reading. David Nicholls, author of Our Day, the bestseller now released as a film, said, “This sounds like the opposite of reading. I have enough trouble reading an e-book because I'm constantly distracted by emails.
Stuart MacBride, the crime writer whose novel Shatter the Bones was an e-book bestseller, sells 18% of his books as electronic downloads. He said, “If I'm reading, I will do the noise in my head. I don’t need someone to tell me what lea cups clinking sounds like. That would irritate (激怒)me.”
9.What do publishers expect an e-book soundtrack to do?
A.Help to release an e-book as a film. B.Help readers improve reading speed.
C.Add tension at a book's exciting point. D.Get readers familiar with the background.
10.Who is in favour of added soundtracks for e-books?
    A.Mr. Darcy. B.Caroline Michel.
    C.David Nicholls. D.Stuart MacBride.
11.What do we know about Stuart MacBride?
A.He was a person who was easy to get angry.
B.He knew a great deal about tea and tea culture.
C.Eighty-two percent of his books described crime.
D.He imagined sounds related to the story when reading.
12.What's the main idea of the passage?
    A.Opinions about e-books with soundtracks.
B.Response to the need of the book market.
C.Reasons for traditional e-books becoming outdated.
    D.Suggestions on encouraging readers’ imagination.

Do parents have a constitutional right to homeschool their children? No, according to a California District Court judge, who recently ruled that a child must be schooled "by a person holding a valid state teaching credential for the grade being taught”.
What started as a Los Angeles County child welfare case involving one specific family has gone into proceedings that have actually put on trial the very nature of what constitutes a sound education. “For decades we’ve been happily homeschooling, and then this comes up suddenly,” says Mary Griffith, a homeschooling parent. Griffith says California had traditionally given homeschooling parents the freedom to choose the kind of education they want for their child.
This particular family in Los Angeles had enrolled their children in a private school independent study program not in their home. In response to abuse charges against the family, the children were enrolled in public schools. The parents stated they had a constitutional right to homeschool on religious grounds; that's when the court ruling was issued. However, Griffith says if the ruling ends up affecting anyone, it will mainly be those who also enroll their children in off-site homeschooling. “This won't be far-reaching for homeschooling parents."
That's how organizations like the Homeschool Association of California (HSC) would like to keep it, anyway, and they've hired a team of lawyers to limit the impact of the case. Griffith says the legal team for HSC is trying to establish that while this ruling may indeed be necessary for this particular family, it should not set a precedent for all.
What does this case really mean for homeschooling families nationwide? According to Darren A.Jones, this decision is certain to affect homeschooling on a national scale. Jones claims that it is common for state courts to look to other states’ rulings for assistance in deciding issues where no precedent exists. “A poor legal decision in California could become part of a trend across the nation.’’
    13.In Griffith’s opinion, ________.
A.parents don’t have a right to homeschool their children
B.a child must be schooled by an expert with a credential
C.homeschooling should be forbidden in the whole country
D.it is understandable for parents to homeschool their children
14.The underlined word “this” in Para. 2 refers to the fact that ________.
    A.parents happily homeschool their children
B.parents don’t have a right to homeschool their children
C.a child must be schooled by a person with a teaching credential
D.a Los Angeles County child welfare case involves a special family
15.Why were the particular family’s children enrolled in public schools?
A.To avoid the abuse charges against them. B.To receive the better education in it.
C.To break away from their parents. D.To cooperate with the expert’s jobs.
16.What’s the author’s attitude towards whether parents have a right to homeschool their children?
    A.Supportive. B.Sympatric. C.Negative. D.Objective.

Realizing that is part of life here for Tony and his Chinese classmates, Catherine is taking the long view, and hopes to study piano at Boston’s Berkley School of Music. 八、读后续写
    91.阅读下面材料, 根据其内界和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I remember the day Dad gathered my mother and me in the living room and opened the case as if it were a treasure chest. “Here it is,” he said. “Once you learn to play, it’ll stay with you for life.” I gave him a thin smile, because I had hoped for a guitar or a piano. An accordion (手风琴) was nowhere in my favorite list. As I looked at the shiny white keys and cream-colored bellows, I could already hear my friends’ teasing laughter.
For the next two weeks, the accordion was stored in the hall closet. Then one evening Dad announced that I would start lessons that following week. In disbelief I shot my eyes toward Mom for support. The firm set of her jaw told me I was out of luck. Spending $ 300 for an accordion and $ 5 per lesson was out of character for my father. He was always frugal (节俭的).
Shortly after, my lessons began with Mr. Zelli at the Allegro According School. On my first day, I felt clumsy in every way. “How did he do?” my father asked when it was over. “Fine for the first lesson,” said Mr. Zelli.
I was ordered to practice for half an hour every day. Gradually, to my surprise, I was able to string notes together and coordinate my fingers to play simple songs. Often after supper, my father would request a tune or two. As he sat in his easy chair, I would fumble (笨手笨脚地做) through “Lady of Spain” and “Beer Barrel Polka”.
Throughout the summer, Mr. Zelli’s lessons grew more difficult. It took me a week and a half to master them now. All the while I could hear my buddies outside playing heated games of stickball. I’d also hear occasional laughter. Such laughter paled, though, beside the upcoming concert, I would have to play a solo (独奏) on a local movie theater’s stage. But I wanted to skip the whole thing.
    注意:1. 续写词数应为150左石:
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Emotions boiled over in the car on one Sunday afternoon.
