A brick furnace (火炉) was fired up, and the blubber was tried ut, r biled int il, One huge whale prduced enugh il t fill seventy-five barrels, she nted in disbelief. When the Jernegans returned hme, the il wuld be sld fr the best price pssible. Whale il was imprtant during mst f the nineteenth century. It was used t light lamps and t make candles.
Tw and a half years after she had left New Bedfrd, deep-water adventure came t an abrupt end. The Jermegans were whaling in the Suth Pacific when several crew members mutinied (反叛). Well, sme peple claim that writing still has many benefits, s maybe it's nt time t ditch yur ballpint (圆珠笔) r funtain pen (钢笔) yet.
These days, when peple request things in writing, a typed, electrnic dcument will be accepted. Ding this n a cmputer means it culd be saved, edited, cpied and sent via email. But crafting a handwritten dcument is unique: It requires planning and thught, and, as well as practising yur handwriting, it helps yu t remember spelling and punctuatin.
Sme experts believe yur brain benefits frm using ld-fashined pen and paper. This is particularly relevant fr students, where typing ntes int a laptp is thught t lack the "tactile feedback" (触觉反馈) t the brain that cntact between pen and paper des. BBC Wrklife website qutes Hetty Ressingh frm the University f Calgary, wh says that "taking ntes by hand invlves cgnitive (认知的) engagement in summarizing, adapting, rganizing, cncept and vcabulary mapping." Others agree that handwriting may bst fine mtr skills in yur hands and fingers.
There are everyday benefits t using pen and paper t. Scribbling (涂鸦) ntes, shpping lists r messages n the back f an envelpe can still be useful, quick and prtable. But putting pen t paper in a letter t a friend r lved ne can prbably have the mst impact. Pen pal writer Katherine Mller tld the BBC: "In a wrld where it is s easy t hp nline t email r t send a fast text, it is s persnal and s precius t knw smene chse t turn ff the virtual wrld t spend sme time with yu."
S, while digital skills remain imprtant, dn't write ff yur pens and pencils yet-especially if yur smartphne, tablet r laptp runs ut f pwer!

Recently, many climate change campaigns and rganizatins have marketed themselves using images f plar bears lsing their habitat. This has led many peple t view the plar bear as the glbal icn (象征物) fr ur climate crisis.
The plar bear has becme s widespread because it des an excellent jb f playing n an audience's emtins and cnvincing them that there is an urgent prblem n Earth. The imagery f a plar bear is als much mre attractive than a scientific graph (图表) r chart f increasing sea levels r extreme weather event ccurrences.
Hwever, using plar bears as the nly icn f ur changing climate is flawed (有错的). Fr ne, it nly represents ne effect f climate change, glbal warming, and nt climate change itself. It neglects t address ther aspects such as extreme weather events, cean acidificatin, etc. While glbal warming is an imprtant impact f climate change, the ther aspects need t be cmmunicated as well since climate change may nt even cause warming in certain parts f the wrld—it culd lead t severe snwstrms r clder winters instead. Thus, cmmunicating these ther elements is vital because it can reduce much f the misinfrmatin surrunding ur climate and gives the audience a mre cmprehensive understanding f ur planet.
Mrever, using plar bears is prblematic because mst peple d nt live anywhere near plar bear habitat. This makes plar bears feel far remved frm ur wn persnal reality—thus making climate change feel far remved frm ur lives. Since climate change is anything but a distant phenmenn, a symbl that cmmunicates the ways in which the climate crisis affects humans culd be mre cnvincing and push mre peple t act.
Even thugh using the plar bear as the icn f climate change is limited in cnveying the full scpe f ur climate crisis, it can act as an agent f pening up the cnversatin abut envirnmental issues and inspiring viewers t dive deeper int learning abut climate change.
    32. Why are plar bears preferred as marketing images?
    A. Their imagery is mre cnvincing.
    B. They are likely t lse their habitats.
    C. They are unique victims f the climate crisis.
    D. The data n them ften appear in scientific graphs.
    33. What can we learn frm Paragraph 3?
    A. Plar bears are the nly indicatr f climate change.
    B. Climate change is bund t result in glbal warming.
    C. All elements f climate change have been cmmunicated t the public.
    D. Using plar bears as the nly icn f climate change will cause sme prblems.
    34. What des the underlined wrd “This" refer t in Paragraph 4?

The earlier a child starts instrumental training, the strnger the cnnectin between the right and left hemispheres (半球) f the brain. 37
What is fund in musicians is als cmmn amng wrld-class athletes and tp-level managers. Is it a cincidence that Rger Federer, Eln Musk and Steve Jbs, all studied music fr years as children? 38 Science backs that up. Children wh play an instrument 30 minutes a week ver the curse f a little ver a year have mre highly develped brains.
