(Text 10)
W: Welcome to Student Life! Today we're going to talk about setting up a project of student jobs in your school. Having students do different jobs around the school is a great way to prepare them for life in the real world. It encourages them to be responsible and also helps them learn new tasks and gain experience. However, it's important to get students excited about the project, so the first thing you should do is let students know this project. Get the headmaster to make an announcement explaining the project. OK? Then decide on the jobs you want and write out the descriptions of the skills and responsibilities needed for each position. Some typical jobs are Classroom Assistants, Recycling Officers and Computer Assistants. Next, ask students to apply for the jobs. Students should be encouraged to write letters of application for the job they are interested in. This is a great way to practice letter writing skills! And don't forget, you should make sure that students are guided by a teacher so that they take their responsibilities seriously. A committee then reviews all the applications and gives jobs to the most suitable applicants. Finally, it's important to get opinions from the students about the project, to find out which jobs are successful and which don't go so well.

根据句子“In addition, during the past five months there were 8 days when you were more than 10 minutes late for work.”(此外,近5个月里你有8天上班迟到时间超过10分钟)可知,C项正确。
根据句子“Required call to supervisor(主管) when expecting to be more than 10 minutes late to work。You will be expected to stick to the above requirements.”(当上班迟到可能超过10分钟时,你需要打电话给主管。 可知D项“Contact her manager if she is late for work over 10 minutes”(如果她上班迟到超过10分钟,要联系她的经理),选项中的“Contact her manager”与原文句中“Required call to supervisor”意思一致。
A breakdown of your leave usage during the past three months was as follows
● Sick or unscheduled(非计划中的) leave days 10 ●Scheduled leave days 5
In addition, during the past five months there were 8 days when you were more than 10 minutes late for work.”(你近3个月的请假情况 breakdown如下:病假或非计划中的请假10天;计划中的请假5天。

That was how the adventures began. It was the sort of house that you never seem to come to the end of, and it was full of unexpected places. The first few doors they tried led only into spare bedrooms, as everyone had expected that they would; but soon they came to a very long room full of pictures; and after that was a room all hung with green, with a harp in one corner; and then a kind of little upstairs hall and a door that led out on to a balcony. And shortly after that they looked into a room that was quite empty except for one big wardrobe, the sort that has a looking-glass in the door.
“Nothing there!” Everybody rushed out but Lucy stayed because she thought it would be worthwhile trying the door of the wardrobe, even though she felt almost sure that it would be locked. To her surprise, it opened quite easily, and two mothballs dropped out.
Looking into the inside, she saw several coats hanging up---mostly long fur coats. There was nothing Lucy liked so much as the smell and feel of fur. She immediately stepped into the wardrobe and got in among the coats and rubbed her face against them, leaving the door open, of course, because she knew that it is very foolish to shut oneself into any wardrobe... She took a step further in---then two or three steps, always expecting to feel woodwork against the tips of her fingers. But she could not feel it.
“This must be a simply vast wardrobe!” thought Lucy, going still further in. Then she noticed that there was something crunching under her feet. “Is that more mothball?” she thought, stooping down to feel it with her hand. But instead of feeling the hard, smooth wood, she felt something soft and powdery and extremely cold. “This is very queer,” she said, and went on a step or two further.
... And then she saw that there was a light ahead of her; ... A moment later she found that she was standing in the middle of a wood at night-time with snow under her feet and snowflakes falling through the air.
24.What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A.The discovery of mysterious rooms.
B.The complex structures of the house.
C.The unexpected search of the house.
D.The adventurous exploration in a house.
25.Why didn’t Lucy go out of the room?
A.She wanted to explore the wardrobe.
B.She found her favourite fur coats.
C.She was attracted by mothballs.
D.She liked the smell of the room.
26.What can we infer about Lucy from the third paragraph?
A.Careful and cowardly. B.Cautious and curious.
C.Foolish but brave. D.Adventurous but casual.
27.What does the underlined word “queer” mean?
A.Terrifying. B.Empty. C.Strange. D.Impressive.
【答案】24.B 25.A 26.B 27.C
根据第一段“That was how the adventures began.
根据第二段“Everybody rushed out but Lucy stayed because she thought it would be worthwhile trying the door of the wardrobe, even though she felt almost sure that it would be locked.( 大家都跟着走出去了,只有露茜一个人留在后面,她想试试把那个大衣橱打开,尽管她儿乎肯定衣橱的门是锁着的)”可知,露西没有走出房间是因为她想探索那个大衣橱。故选A。
根据第三段的“of course, because she knew that it is very foolish to shut oneself into any wardrobe... She took a step further in---then two or three steps, always expecting to feel woodwork against the tips of her fingers. But she could not feel it. ( 当然喽,她让橱门开在那儿,因为她知道,一个人把自己关在衣橱里是非常愚蠢的。她向前又跨了一步,接着两步,三步,想用手指尖摸到木头的橱壁,但她始终没能摸到)”可推断,露西是谨慎并好奇的。故选B。
【27题详解】
词句猜测题。根据上文“Then she noticed that there was something crunching under her feet. “Is that more mothball?” she thought, stooping down to feel it with her hand. But instead of feeling the hard, smooth wood, she felt something soft and powdery and extremely cold.( 这时,她感到脚底下有什么东西在吱嘎吱哽作响。我难道踩到了樟脑丸?她想,一边蹲下身来用手去摸。然而她摸到的不是坚硬而又光滑的木头橱底,而是一样柔软的、粉末似的、冰冷的东西)”可知,露西在衣橱里摸到的不是橱子底,而是柔软的,粉末状的,冰冷的东西,因此推断她会感到奇怪,故划线词词义与C项(奇怪的)意思相近。故选C。
C
Most people think that women are naturally kind, cry too much and think with their hearts, instead of using their heads like men. Meanwhile, men are thought to be born to be rational creatures who naturally know how to lead and do math. However, statistics on personality types report that 75. 5% of women are Feelers and 56. 5% of men are Thinkers. So, right now we see that a huge number of men about 43%- -have Feeling preferences.
According to these numbers, only 25% of women are Thinkers. A majority of women tested are Feelers, but are a majority of women born as Feelers? In many regards, women are still expected to uphold the feminine(女性的) goals of half a century ago- stay pretty, have babies, keep a tidy home, and cook a good nutritious meal every night. Now, in addition to those old standards, most women plan on working and having careers. But even in the workplace, showing a Thinking preference can be problematic. Women who take charge or offer criticism may be seen 88 bossy,
Of course the question goes to the Thinking men. Boys learn at a young age that being emotional or sensitive can be seen to be less strong. They have been taught not to cry to show that they are brave enough to bear any sufferings. In that case, they are more likely to be less of Feelers.
Maybe Feeler women and Thinker men are not naturally 80.
There is nothing wrong with being a Feeler woman or a Thinker man. Being a Feeler does not mean that you're a rollercoaster of emotions who might knock over a table at any moment, nor does being a Thinker mean that you are an infallible robot designed to make heartless decisions. Regardless of gender. your personality and preferences are completely valid; neither Thinking nor Feeling is right or wrong, good or bad. And of course, people, who prefer a Thinking style still have feelings, and Feelers can be extremely intelligent.
28.What is the common belief about men according to paragraph 1?
A.They prefer to be math teachers. B.They are emotional group leaders.
C.They seem ruder and more merciless. D.They tend to think with their heads.
29.What mainly makes women become Feelers?
A.Their working experiences. B.The social expectations.
C.The born characteristics. D.Their family backgrounds,
30.What can be learned from the last paragraph?
A.Personality is not necessarily limited to a type.
B.Feelers and Thinkers can hardly live in harmony,
C.A Thinker is certain to make heartless decisions.
D.A Feeler is emotionally changeable all the time.
31.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Does Personality Change Over the Time?
B.Is Personality Only Determined by Gender?
C.Are Feeler Women and Thinker Men Born to Be So?
D.Can Feelers and Thinkers Get On Well With Each Other?
【答案】28.D 29.B 30.A 31.C
根据文章第一段“Most people think that women are naturally kind, cry too much and think with their hearts, instead of using their heads like men. Meanwhile, men are thought to be born to be rational creature who naturally know how to lead and do math”(大多数人认为女人天生善良,爱哭,用心思考,而不是像男人那样动脑思考。
根据文章第二段“ In many regards, women are still expected to uphold the feminine(女性的) goals of half a century ago- stay pretty, have babies, keep a tidy home, and cook a good nutritious meal every night. Now, in addition to those old standards, most women plan on working and having careers. But even in the workplace, showing a Thinking preference can be problematic. Women who take charge or offer criticism may be seen 88 bossy,”(在许多方面,人们仍然期望女性坚持半个世纪前的女性目标——保持漂亮,生孩子,保持家庭整洁,每天晚上做一顿营养丰富的晚餐。
根据最后一段“Being a Feeler does not mean that you're a rollercoaster of emotions who might knock over a table at any moment, nor does being a Thinker mean that you are an infallible robot designed to make heartless decisions.”(做一个感觉者并不意味着你是一个随时可能打翻桌子的情绪过山车,做一个思考者也不意味着你是一个绝对正确的机器人,被设计来做无情的决定。)及“And of course, people, who prefer a Thinking style still have feelings, and Feelers can be extremely intelligent.”(当然,喜欢思考方式的人仍然有感觉,而“感觉者”可能非常聪明。) 故选A。
根据最后一段“Being a Feeler does not mean that you're a rollercoaster of emotions who might knock over a table at any moment, nor does being a Thinker mean that you are an infallible robot designed to make heartless decisions.”

Most of the wind available on land is too gentle to push commercial wind turbine(涡轮机),but now researchers in China have designed a kind of "tiny wind turbine,, that can use wind energy from breezes as little as those created by a quick walk. The new device is not technically a turbine. It is a nanogenerator made of two plastic strips in a tube that clap together when there is airflow. Like rubbing a balloon to your hair, the two plastics become electrically charged after being separated from contact, a phenomenon called the triboelectric effect. But instead of making your hair stand up like Einstein's, the electricity generated by the two plastic strips is captured and stored.
"Our intention isn't to replace existing wind power generation technology. "Our goal is to solve the issues that the traditional wind turbines can't solve?" says Ya Yang, a researcher from Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems. "Unlike wind turbines that use coils and magnets(磁石) where the costs are fixed, we can pick and choose low-cost materials for our device. Our device can also be safely applied to nature reserves or cities because it doesn't have the rotating(旋转)structures.
Yang says he has a small vision and a big vision for the project's next steps. In the past, Yang and his colleagues have designed a nanogenerator as small as a coin, but he wants to make it even tinier and more compact with higher efficiency. Yang is also looking to make the device bigger and more powerful. "I'm hoping to scale up the device to produce 1,000 watts. We can place these devices where traditional wind turbines can't reach. We can put it in the mountains or on the top of buildings for sustainable energy.
32.What do we know about the new device in paragraph 1?
A.It is called tiny wind turbine.
B.It can help you walk quickly.
C.It is a turbine used to store the electricity.
D.It consists of a tube and two plastic strips.
33.What advantage does the new device have?
A.It creates a cheap and secure way of making electricity.
B.It has solved the problems the old device can't.
C.Its cost is fixed because of materials used in it.
D.It can take the place of the present wind generators.
34.What does Yang mean by saying he has a big vision for the project's next steps?
A.He intends to make the device much smaller.
B.He plans to apply the device to nature reserves and cities.
C.He means to make the device more powerful and widely used.
D.He wants to make the device the biggest one in the country.
35.In which section of a website can you find this text?
A.Science. B.Culture. C.Fashion. D.Business.
【答案】32.D 33.A 34.C 35.A
根据第一段中“The new device is not technically a turbine. It is a nanogenerator made of two plastic strips in a tube that clap together when there is airflow.(从技术上讲,新装置不是涡轮。它是一种纳米发电机,由管中的两个塑料条组成,当有气流时,塑料条会拍打在一起。) ”可知,这种新设备是由两个塑料带和一个管子组成。故选D。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“"Unlike wind turbines that use coils and magnets (磁石) where the costs are fixed, we can pick and choose low-cost materials for our device. Miss Robinson was the governess (家庭教师) of Mrs. Livingstone's daughters. She lived in the house like a servant. But she was intelligent and well-educated.
One evening, Mrs. Livingstone invited some friends to dinner. She asked fourteen people but one of the guests was unable to come. Thirteen is an unlucky number so she invited Miss Robinson. Miss Robinson hurried to the jewelry shop to get her repaired string of beads for the dinner party. One of the guests was Count Borselli who knew everything about pearls and diamonds. A young lady at dinner called Miss Lyngate was wearing a string of pearls. She was very proud of her pearls and she asked Count Borselli to look at them.
"They're quite nice pearls, "said the Count.
Miss Lyngate had her nose high up in the air, announcing they cost eight thousand pounds.
"Yes, that's the correct price," said Count Borselli in an ordinary voice. And then, he pointed to the pearls on Miss Robinson's neck, "That is a very nice string of pearls." Miss Lyngate's face flushed with anger. She didn't think a governess could wear a valuable string of pearls.
"That string of pearls is worth more than fifty thousand pounds," added the Count,
Miss Lyngate did not believe Count Borselli. He was mistaken. "Miss Robinson," She said in a loud voice. "Are you wearing a very valuable string of pearls?"
All ears were cocked for Miss Robinson's reply. "1 paid Fifteen shillings for these beads, "said Miss Robinson quietly. Miss Lyngate laughed, with a proud expression on her face.
Now everyone in the room was in whisper A governess with a string of pearls worth fifty thousand pounds? That was not possible. A woman with fifty thousand pounds was a very rich woman.
"But I bought these beads for fifteen shillings," said Miss Robinson again.
"I do not make mistakes," said the Count quietly. "I know the value of pearls."
"A thief? Stolen pearls?" screamed Mrs. Livingstone, trembling with anger.
"There must be something wrong." Miss Robinson thought.

Pleased to get the valuable pearls back, the shopkeeper gave Miss Robinson three hundred pounds in return. A large sum of money for her! But she refused politely and left with her own fifteen-shilling beads.
Paragraph 2:
Miss Robinson came back to the dinner table and everyone stared at her surprisingly. She sat down and passed the string over to Count Borselli. "How much are these beads worth?" she asked. Count Borselli looked at them for a moment. The two words "Fifteen shillings" escaped his lips. But he seemed puzzled: it wasn't that former string! Everyone sat still, their ears cocked.
