It was nt until my first end f term exams were ver in January 2017 that I culd shw dwn and think carefully abut the things that I was ding wrng and the things that I gt right. The week after my exams ended, I realised hw little time I had spent utside the university libraries and my living place.

Yung peple these days are expsed t an almst cnstant stream f written wrds. They cmmunicate by web messages, r by Facebk updates, r by Tweets.
When I was a by, in the 1980s, we cmmunicated by telephne. I never wrte a single wrd t anybdy my wn age, except t pass ntes in class when I was bred. The Internet and the mbile phne have changed all that, and put a new emphasis (强调) n the written wrd.
Written wrds are imprtant nw. Everything, especially fr the yung, depends n them. Online chatting and searching, messaging and e mailing, all depend n writing, and writing quickly.
There is n time nw fr thinking abut the right phrase carefully r planning the best way t say smething befre yu make that phne call, that text and that e-mail demanding an exigent respnse.
The imprtant difference between writing and speaking is that writing can be crssed ut (划掉), whereas speech cannt. Cmmunicatin is nw a cntinuus wrk in prgress, as lng as it’s dne n screen, and as lng as yu delete it befre anyne reads it. Glancing arund the Internet, yu can find examples f terrible English, but yu’ll als find an astnishing number f crrectins.
There has prbably never been a time in histry when writing has been s universal (普遍) and s imprtant. Bks n the English language can nw tp the bestseller lists. Tday, the Philippines hlds the recrd fr texting: 27 per user per day, In Scandinavia, mre than 85 per cent f the ppulatin cmmunicates by text, Sme 294 billin e mail messages are sent every day. These are cmmunicatins that until recently were made by telephne, letter, face t face r, and this is highly imprtant in the cmmunicatin debate, nt at all.

A. By fllwing time rder.B. By telling an interesting stry.
C. By presenting research findings.D. By making cmparisns.
29. What des the underlined wrd “exigent” in paragraph 3 mean?
