    A team f researchers at Ohi State University, US, has fund sad mvies can make peple happier, Science Daily reprted last mnth.
    Many peple find tragedies make them realize hw gd their wn lives are, the study shwed.
    “Peple seem t use tragedies as a way t reflect n the imprtant relatinships in their wn lives,” said Silvia Knblch-Westerwick, leader f the study. “Tragic stries ften fcus n themes f eternal(永恒的) lve, and this leads viewers t think abut their lved nes and cunt their gd and helpful things.”
    In the study, researchers gathered 361 cllege students and shwed them the 2007 mvie, Atnement. The mvie is abut tw lvers wh are separated(分离) and finally die during Wrld War II. Befre and after the mvie, the students were asked questins measuring(衡量) hw happy they were with their lives. Researchers als asked them befre, after and three times during the mvie t measure varius emtins, including sadness.
    Researchers fund that the sadder students felt while watching the mvie, the mre likely they were t think abut real peple they had clse relatinships with in life. This increased their happiness after watching the mvie.
    Knblch-Westerwick explained that negative(消极的) mds make peple mre thughtful.
    “Psitive(积极的) emtins shw that everything is fine, yu dn’t have t wrry, yu dn’t have t think abut prblems in yur life,” she said. “But negative emtins, like sadness, make yu think mre critically abut yur situatin. S seeing a tragic mvie may make yu sad, but that will make yu t think mre abut yur wn clse relatinships and appreciate them mre.”
    The link between watching a tragic stry and feeling better has lng been recgnized. The ancient Greeks even had a wrd fr the feeling f happiness after seeing smething sad that led t the mdern English wrd “catharsis (宣泄)”.
    The study als shwed that relatinships are a very imprtant surce f happiness in ur lives, s it is n surprise that thinking abut yur lved nes makes yu happier, researchers said.
