My grandfather came from Hungary and was the only one in his family who settled down in the United States. The rest of his family remained in Europe. When World War I broke out, he seemed to have become another man, downhearted. Such obvious change didn’t appear out of concern for his welfare, but out of fear: if his only son, my uncle, had to go to war, it would be the cousin fighting against the cousin.
One day in 1918, my Uncle Milton received his draft notice. My grandparents were very upset. But my mother, at the age of 10, felt on top of the world about her soldier brother going off to war. Realizing how he was regarded by his little sister and all of her friends, my uncle bought them all service pins, which meant that they had a loved one in the services. All the little girls were delighted.
The moment came when my uncle and most of the other soldiers, without any training but all in uniforms, boarded the train. The band played and the crowd cheered. Although no one noticed, I’m sure my grandmother had a tear in her eye for the only son. The train slowly pulled out, but didn’t run about a thousand yards when it suddenly paused. Everyone stared in wonder as the train slowly returned to the station.
There was a dead silence before the doors opened and the men started to step out. Someone shouted, "The war is over!" For a moment, nobody moved, but then the people heard someone bark orders at the soldiers. The men lined up in two lines, walked down the steps, and with the band playing, marched down the street, as returning heroes to be welcomed home. My mother said it was a great day, but she was just a little disappointed that it didn’t last a tiny bit longer.

A. the spread of the war

D. the safety of his two cousins
2. The underlined phrase "draft notice" in Paragraph 2 means " ".
A. note of warning
B. train ticket to Europe
C. letter of rejection
D. order for army service
3. Which of the following words can best describe the ending of the story?
A. Unexpected.
B. Inspiring.
C. Uncertain.
D. Disappointing.
4. What can we know from the passage?
A. The grandfather felt downhearted because he was afraid of receiving a draft notice.
B. The train was traveling fast to the front when the news came that the war was over.
C. Most people including the author's mother were disappointed that the war didn't last a bit longer.
D. Few soldiers on the train had training in advance.

One of the main challenges facing many countries is how to maintain their identity in the face of globalization and the growing multi-language trend. "One of the main reasons for economic failure in many African countries is the fact that, with a few important exceptions, mother-tongue education is not practiced in any of the independent African states." said Neville Alexander, Director of the Project for the Study of Alternative Education in South Africa at the University of Cape Town.
In response to the spread of English and the increased multi-language trends arising from immigration, many countries have introduced language laws in the last decade. In some, the use of languages other than the national language is banned in public spaces such as advertising posters. One of the first such legal provisions(规定) was the 1994 "Toubon law" in France, and the idea has been copied in many countries since then. Such efforts to govern language use are often considered as futile by language experts, who are well aware of the difficulty in controlling fashions in speech and know from research that language switching among bilinguals is a natural process.
It is especially difficult for native speakers of English to understand the desire to maintain the "purity" of a language by law. Since the time of Shakespeare, English has continually absorbed foreign words into its own language. English is one of the most mixed and rapidly changing languages in the world, but that has not been a barrier to acquiring superiority and power. Another reason for the failure of many native English speakers to understand the role of the state regulation is that it has never been the Anglo-Saxon way of doing things. English has never had a state-controlled authority for the language, similar, for example, to the Academic Francaise in France.
The need to protect national languages is, for most western Europeans, a recent phenomenon-especially the need to ensure that English does not unnecessarily take over too many fields. Public communication, education and new ways of communication promoted by technology, may be key fields to defend.
1. Neville Alexander believes that _____.
A. mother tongue education is not practiced in all African countries
B. globalization has resulted in the economic failure of Africa
C. globalization has led to the rise of the multi-language trend
D. lack of mother tongue education can lead to economic failure
2. The underlined word "futile" in paragraph 2 most probably means?
A. workable B. practical C. useless D. unnecessary
3. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. English has taken over fields like public communication and education.
B. Many aspects of national culture are threatened by the spread of English.
C. Most language experts believe it is important to promote a national language.
D. Europeans have long realized the need to protect a national language.
4. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A. Fighting Against the Rule of English
B. Protecting Local Languages and Identity
C. The Globalisation and Multi-language Trend
D. To Maintain the Purity of Language by Law
D
Japan's biggest airline is betting that the future of travel isn't traveling at all. For the last month, a married couple has been interacting with a robot—called an Avatar—that's controlled by their daughter hundreds of miles away. Made by ANA Holdings Inc., it looks like a cleaner with an iPad attached. But the screen displays the daughter's face as they chat, and its wheels let her move slowly about the house as though she's really there.
"Virtual travel" is nothing new, of course. Storytellers, travel writers and artists have been stimulating(刺激) the senses of armchair tourists for centuries. It's only in recent decades that frequent, safe travel has become available to the non-wealthy.
Yet even as the world's middle classes climb out of the armchair and into economy class seats, there are signs of a post-travel society coming into being. Concerns about sustainability(可持续发展) are having a negative influence on carbon-intensive airlines. And the aging of wealthy societies is both slowing down physical travel and creating demand for various ways to experience the world. For the travel industry, virtual(虚拟的) reality offers an attractive response to these trends.
Of course, far-out technologies encourage far-out claims. ANA doesn't plan to start selling Avatars until next year. Profits, too, will probably be difficult to achieve: according to one investigation, the global market for this kind of technology will be worth only about $300 million by 2023. By contrast, ANA's traditional travel business brought in more than $19 billion last year.
But if the business case for virtual vacations is still weak, the market for technologies that bridge physical distances between families and co-workers seems likely to only expand. ANA's robots may not replace its airplanes any time soon, but they'll almost certainly be a part of travel's high-tech future.
1.Why is "Avatar" mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A.To display how people travel with the robot "Avatar".
B.To introduce a new service offered by Japan's biggest airline.
C.To lead in the topic of virtual travel by providing a vivid scene.
D.To describe what the robot "Avatar" looks like and how it works.
2.It can be inferred from Paragraph 3 that people's choice of virtual travel may be the result of _________.
A.the demand for safe travel B.wealthy people's growing old
C.worries about low-carbon airlines D.the support of advanced technologies
3.What does the writer mean by saying "far-out technologies encourage far-out claims"?
A.Traditional travel business is not profitable.
B.Global market for virtual travel is hard to predict.
C.The time is ripe for selling Avatars in terms of technology.
D.Virtual travel will take the place of the traditional one very soon.
4.What's the writer's attitude to virtual technology?
A.Uncertain. B.Cautious. C.Enthusiastic. D.Optimistic.

第二节 (满分25分)

One of my sisters who had worked abroad for 10 years returned home for her vacation.
All the family members were happy. My parents gave her a simple celebration and prepared food for us to share.
While staying with them, an idea came to me. We could have a family outing on the beach! All of my siblings (兄弟姐妹) agreed! It had been a long time since we went outing last time and it was the chance to do it again. We set off the next day.
The weather was nice and many people were enjoying the seawater. I ran towards the water and felt the coldness of it. My siblings placed our things in a big cottage (村舍). They brought many foods and planned to cook fish and pork meat. Everyone in the cottage was busy preparing for food while the children went to swim. I couldn't swim though I was already a teenager. That was why I just played in the shallow part of the sea.
On the other side of the beach, I saw a small fishing boat. I never tried to ride on it, but while I was looking at it, I was eager to take a ride on the boat. Without a second thought, I went to the boat alone. I paid the fisherman for using his boat and started to push it towards the sea. In my mind, I would not go to the deep part. A few minutes later, I made it float on water and I enjoyed it! I made it move forward and kept it float for several minutes. Suddenly, the seawater became disturbing and large waves surrounded me. I couldn't control the boat anymore.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
My boat was pulled towards the deeper part. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

第二节
答案:One possible version:
My boat was pulled towards the deeper part. I was afraid and nervous! I shouted loudly to ask my siblings for help. However, none of them heard me because they were too far away from me, so I began to cry. Suddenly, a big wave came and I was thrown into the water. I didn't know how to swim. I struggled in the seawater and kept on waving my hands. That was the last moment I could remember.
When I came to life, I was lying in hospital. My parents were beside me. I asked my mother what happened. She said my brother saw me while I was waving my hands. I was rescued by him and they immediately sent me to the hospital. I was grateful that I was still alive. My mother said we would have another celebration for another life given to me. I told them the celebration would never be held on the beach.
