Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success alone do not bring lasting happiness. Aristotle, a Greek thinker, said, “Happiness depends upon ourselves.” In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.
The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future — for example, getting into college or getting a good job — that we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life’s simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier lives.
Another secret of living a happy life is to be active. Many people go dancing or play sports. People can forget about their problems and only think about the activities.
Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to buy food for an elderly person, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.
29. The best title of the passage is ________.
A. Money Makes You Happy
B. The Secrets of Happiness
C. Ideas for Helping Other People to Be Happy
D. Good Friends Make You Happy
30. The second paragraph tells us that ________.
A. the more friends you have, the happier you will be
B. we shouldn’t think about our future
C. happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life
D. some people fail to live a happy life
31. The writer thinks that ________.
A. everyone knows how to live a happier life
B. it’s wrong to spend time on work
C. hobbies take up too much time
D. doing good things for someone can make you happier
32. Which of the following is not mentioned(提到) in the passage?
A. Reading a good book. B. Traveling to a foreign country.
C. Playing a sport. D. Spending time with close friends.
C
I arrived in the classroom, ready to share my knowledge and experience with 76 students who would be my English literature(文学) class. Having taught in the US for 17 years, I was sure of my ability to hold their attention and I was confident that they would admire(钦佩) my ability to teach them literature well in English.
I was shocked when the monitor shouted, “stand up!” The whole class rose as I entered the room and I was somewhat unclear about how to get them to sit down again, but once the embarrassment(尴尬) was over, I quickly gained my calmness and admiration again. I went back, to my office with the rosy glow which came from a strong sense of achievement(成就).
My students kept diaries. However, as I read them, the rosy glow was slowly replaced(取代) by a strong sense of sadness. The first diary said, “Our literature teacher didn’t teach us anything today perhaps her next lecture(讲座) will be better.” Greatly surprised, I read diary after diary, each saying something about a similar theme. “Didn’t I teach them anything? I described the whole Western philosophy(哲学) and laid the historical background for all the works we will study in class,” I complained. “How should they say I didn’t teach them anything?”
It was a long term, and it slowly became clear that my ideas about education were not the same as those of my students. I thought a teacher’s job was to raise interesting questions and provide enough background so that students could draw their own conclusions. My students thought a teacher’s job was to provide exact information as directly and clearly as possible. What a difference!
However, I also learned a lot; and the experience with my Chinese students has made me a better American teacher, and I knew how to teach in a different culture.
33. Which country does the writer of the passage come from?
A. The UK. B. The USA. C. China. D. Canada.
34. We can know that on the first day the writer ________.
A. was worried about her students’ performance B. was very confident in her students

35. The underlined phrase “the rosy glow”, probably means ________.
A. feeling embarrassed and strange B. feeling happy and interesting
C. feeling successful and proud D. feeling angry and unbelievable
36. The students said the writer didn’t teach them anything because ________.
A. they didn’t get enough exact facts B. they didn’t get used to her teaching
C. they didn’t understand the lesson D. they didn’t like her teaching
D
Fear may be in the heart as well as in the head, according to a study that has found a link between the cycles of a beating heart and the chance of someone feeling fear.
Tests on healthy volunteers found that they were more likely to feel a sense of fear at the moment when their hearts are contracting (收缩) and pumping blood around their bodies, compared with the point when the heartbeat is relaxed. Scientists say the results suggest that the heart is able to influence how the brain reacts to a fearful event, depending on which point it is at in its regular cycle of contraction and relaxation.
Sarah Garfinkel at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School said: "Our study shows for the first time that the way in which we deal with fear is different depending on when we see fearful pictures in relation to our heart."
The study tested 20 healthy volunteers on their reactions to fear as they were shown pictures of fearful faces. Dr. Garfinkel said, "The study showed that fearful faces are better noticed when the heart is pumping than when it is relaxed. Thus our hearts can also affect what we see and what we don't see-and guide whether we see fear."
To further understand this relationship, the scientists also used a brain scanner (扫描仪) to show how the brain influences the way the heart changes a person's feeling of fear.
"We have found an important mechanism by which the heart and brain 'speak' to each other to change our feelings and reduce fear, "Dr. Garfinkel said.
"We hope that by increasing our understanding about how fear is dealt with and ways that it could be reduced, we may be able to develop more successful treatments for anxiety (焦虑) disorders, and also for those who may be suffering from serious stress disorder."
37. What is the finding of the study?
A. One's heart influences how he feels fear.
B. Fear is a result of one's heartbeat.
C. Fear can't be felt because of one's relaxed heartbeat.
D. One's fast heartbeats are likely to cause fear.
38. The study was carried out by studying________.
A. volunteers' heartbeats when they saw terrible pictures
B. the time volunteers saw fearful pictures and their health conditions
C. volunteers' reactions to horrible pictures and results from their brain scans
D. different pictures shown to volunteers and their heartbrain communication
39. Which of the following is closest in meaning to "mechanism" in Paragraph 6?
A. Order. B. System. C. Machine. D. Treatment.
40. This study may contribute to________.
A. treating anxiety and stress better
B. explaining the cycle of fear and anxiety
C. finding the key to the heartbrain communication
D. understanding different fears in our hearts and heads
"How are you?" is a nice question. It's a friendly greeting that people in the United States use. ___41___ It's a question that often doesn't need an answer. The person who asks, "How are you?" expects to hear the answer "Fine," even if the person isn't fine. The reason is that "How are you?" isn't really a question and "Fine" isn't really an answer. ___42___
___43___ For example, when someone asks "Do you agree?" the other person may be thinking, "No, I don't. I think you are wrong." It isn't polite to disagree very strongly, so he might say, "I am not so sure." This is a nice way to say that you don't agree with someone.
People also don't say exactly what they are thinking when they finish talking to other people. For example, many conversations over the phone end when one person says, "I've got to go now," or the person who wants to hang up gives an excuse such as "Someone is at door," or "Something is burning on the stove." ___44___ The person who wants to hang up simply doesn't want to talk any more, but it isn't polite to say so. An excuse is polite, and it doesn't hurt the other person's feelings.
Whether they are greeting each other, talking about an opinion, or ending a conversation, people often don't say exactly what they are thinking. ___45___ and it's part of the game of language.
A. Sometimes, people don't say exactly what they mean.
B. It's very good not to tell the truth to our family.
C. However, "How are you?" is also an unusual question.
D. The excuse may be real, or not.
E. They are simply other ways of saying "hello" or "hi".
F. If you disagree with others, they will hate you.
G. It is an important way people try to be nice to each other

In order to reduce the stress on the students, Nanjing No.1 High School has created a Grade Bank. The bank lets students “borrow” grades so that they can pass exams, and then repay them in later tests.
Here’s how it works: The Grade Bank allows students to borrow marks to fix a failing grade in any exam. But, just like a real bank, it requires “clients(客户)” to pay back the loan(贷款) on time, with interest(利息). So students have to pay for the loan by scoring extra points in future exams. Some teachers also allow the students to repay the bank by doing lab experiments or giving public speeches. Students who don’t pay back their loans are blacklisted(列入黑名单) by the bank, just like in real life.
“I was sick before the mid-term exams and missed several geography classes,” one student said, “I failed the exam, so I am glad the Grade Bank gave me a chance to fix that.”
Though many people think the Grade Bank is a good idea, at least on social media, not everyone supports the system. Education expert Xiong Bingqi for example, believes that the loan system is improper for exam marks, but he thinks that it takes stress off the students. Others think that such a system just causes students to be lazier in their studies.
56. Who will probably borrow marks from the Grade Bank?
57 How can the students pay back the loan of the Grade Bank?
58. Do you strongly wish to have a Grade Bank in your school? Why or why not?

A. has gone to B. have gone to C. has been to D. have been to
【答案】A

考查have been to和have gone to的区别。句子主语为he,together with his students是介词短语,故谓语应用第三人称单数形式,B、D选项可排除。 根据问句“Where is Mr. Wang?” 故选A。

6. ---Oh, my god! I’ve left my keys in the office.

才,故选A。
10. __________ you have done! We are grateful to you for what you have done for the children in poor areas.
A. How meaningful work B. How meaning job
C. What a meaningful job D. What a meaning work

1. What + (a/an) + 形容词 + 可数名词单数 + 其它!

根据“How long have you lived in Suzhou?”和“Two years. But I…in Shanghai for 5 years.”
12. It is nice ________ the gentleman to provide support ________ the poor.
A. of, for B. of, with C. for, for D. for, with
【答案】A
of属于……的;for为了;with用。nice是表示人性格特点的形容词,所以第一空使用of,It is+形容词+of sb.+to do sth. 根据“provide support ”可知,此处是provide sth. for sb. 故选A。
13. We find________impossible for us to learn a foreign language well in a short time.
A. that B. this C. one D. it

15. — Mrs. Green, do you think I can get an “A” in the final exam if I start working hard now?
— Of course! ________.
A. Better late than never B. Many hands make light work

Better late than never亡羊补牢,为时不晚;Many hands make light work众人拾柴火焰高;You cannot burn the candle at both sides蜡烛不能两头点,精力不可过分耗;Action speak louder than words行动胜于言语。 故选A。

A. Order. B. System. C. Machine. D. Treatment.

57. How can the students pay back the loan of the Grade Bank?
58. Do you strongly wish to have a Grade Bank in your school? Why or why not?

I wish I had been there, have been to“去过某地”,此处描述的是希望在这之前去过那里,此处用过去完成时的结构,故填John has gone to Australia on business, I wish I had been there.
