Group: Buffy, Debby, Jamie, Albert, Matt ... (7).
Hey, guys! I have a lot of things I don’t need, so I’m thinking about having a yard sale. What do you think?
    Buffy

    Debby
Having a yard sale is not easy. You have to collect things, put prices on them, put them out on tables and then wait for people to come. And usually you have to sell things at VERY low prices. For all that time and work, you make very little money. Why not just sell your things online for higher prices?

    Jamie
Debby’s right. But I think it’d be even better to just give your things to people who need them. I just sent out a lot of things last week.

    Albert
Hey, I love yard sales! It’s a great chance to make big money if you choose the right day. In my experience, Saturday is the best.

    Matt
I agree with Albert. You can make money and meet interesting people. I made some good friends at my last yard sale.

    21. Why does Buffy start the chatting?
    A. To ask her friends for advice. B. To sell things to the group members.
    C. To invite her friends to go to a yard sale. D. To explain how to deal with useless things.
    22. What is Debby’s opinion?
    A. A yard sale could make much more money. B. You have to wait long for people to come.
    C. A yard sale is not worth (值得) the time and work. D. Online selling takes too much time and work.
    23. Which of the following best describes Jamie?
    A. Honest. B. Clever. C. Hard-working. D. Kind-hearted.
    B
A study shows that more teens are reading good old-fashioned, paper books. But do you know how to pick a book you’ll really like? Here are some tips.
    ___________________
Reading on your own isn’t like reading for school. You can pick something that’s all about your interests, whether they’re arts, computers, or fashion design. Among them there are surely books you are interested in.
    Read the “Blurbs”
The reviews and quotes (引述) on the back and inside covers of many books are called “blurbs”. They can not only give you an idea of what the book is about, but can also help you pick future books. If you find a book you really like, take a minute to read the quotes and see which writers praised (称赞) the book. Often, you’ll find you like books by those writers too.
Join the Club — Online or in Person
Get your friends together and share information on writers, writing styles, and story types. More social networking sites (地点) also have book club parts. Join a group with your friends and people you believe (avoid sharing personal information with people you don’t know, of course).
    Ask an Expert (行家)
Your local library can surprise you greatly with a lot of great book ideas. Explain your interests and any writer you like, and your librarian can point you towards books that you’ll love.
    24. Which of the following is best for the first subtitle(副标题)?
    A. Read Books of All Types B. Start with Your Interests
    C. Read the Books for School D. Pick the Books on Your Own
    25. What does the underlined word “blurbs” mean in Paragraph 3?
    A. 简介 B. 说明 C. 内容 D. 书目
    26. When joining a club for reading, you should ________.
    A. share your information with people online B. meet your online friends from time to time
    C. spend less time on the social networking sites D. try to keep your personal information carefully
    C
My dear boys and girls, good morning. Today I’m going to talk to you, about my understanding of learning history. Many of you may think it is a terrible thing to study history. You may often wonder why we students should study something that has nothing to do with our own lives. If you think that way, I should say you are far from the truth.
In fact, if we study history, we can learn quite a lot about personal stories and events of people just like us. The people who came before us helped build and develop the country we are living in. Their ideas often solved many of our problems and troubles. Studying the past helps us to understand what our ancestors’(祖先) lives were like. And it also helps us to see how their experiences have shaped our own life.
To be honest, not everything that happened in the past is good. Some of what we study in history helps us understand the mistakes of the past. And these mistakes will help people not to do the same wrong things. People often learn from the past to have a better future.
Whether we like the subject of history or not, we must understand the importance of the events and the people who came before us. Our ancestors’ decisions have influenced our own life. Similarly, the decisions of our own generation(一代人) will finally influence those who come after us. In this only way, the world is truly connected.
History is not just a study of the past. History is the study of people, places, and events that can influence the future.
Now do you still think studying history is a sad thing? Or do you have any doubt about learning history? If you have any question, just feel free to ask.
    27. What kind of writing is the passage above?
    A. A diary. B. A story. C. A speech. D. A letter.
    28. According to Paragraph 4, the decisions of our generation will ________.
    A. show what is happening to us B. build and develop our country
    C. influence the people in the future D. help understand the people in the past
    29. The writer wrote the passage to ________.
    A. introduce some important people in history
    B. develop students’ interest in learning history
    C. explain different people’s understanding of history
    D. show the relationship between the past and the future
    D
Once my father asked me to hold his hammer while he repaired something, so we could have some time to talk to each other. For 22 years, after I left home for college, he called me every Sunday at 9 a.m. He was always interested in my life and how my family was doing, and I never once heard him complain about his own life.
Nine years ago when I bought my first house, my father, 67 years old, spent eight hours a day painting it for three days. He would not allow me to pay someone to have it done. All he asked for was a glass of iced tea and for me to hold a paint brush for him and talk to him. But I was too busy. Five years ago, at age 71, my father spent five hours putting together a swing set (秋千组) for my daughter. Again, all he asked was that I get him a glass of iced tea and talk to him. But again, I was too busy.
Four years ago, my father drove all the way from Denver to Topeka, with an eight-foot Colorado blue spruce (蓝叶云杉) in his trunk, so that my husband and I could have a part of Colorado growing on our land. I was preparing for a trip that weekend and couldn’t spend much time with him.
Then, one day, my father telephoned me as usual, this time from my sister’s home in Florida. We talked about the tree he had brought me, “Fat Albert”, but that morning he called it “Fat Oscar”. How could he have such a poor memory! Things seemed to get worse for him, but I had to get to church and I cut the conversation short.
The call came at 4:40 p. m. that day, my father was in hospital in Florida with an aneurysm (动脉瘤). I got on a plane immediately, and on the way I thought of all the times I had not taken the time to talk to my father. I realized that I had no idea who he was or what his deepest thoughts were. I promised that when I arrived, I would make up for lost time.
I arrived in Florida at 1 a.m. My father had passed away at 9:12 p.m. This time it was he who did not have time to talk to me.
    30. How did the writer feel when she was rushing to the hospital where her father was staying?
    A. Hopeless. B. Sorry. C. Frightened. D. Disappointed.
    31. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
    A. The writer arrived in Florida before her father passed away.
    B. The writer hasn’t found enough time to talk to her father for these nine years.
    C. The writer noticed nothing unusual about her father’s health before he was put in the hospital.
    D. The writer’s father brought them the Colorado blue spruce because it’s an expensive kind of tree.
    32. Which words best describe the writer’s father?
    A. Honest. B. Impatient. C. Talkative. D. Caring and thoughtful.

    阅读下面的短文,用英语回答问题,并将答案写在答题卡标有题号的横线上。
Do you ever feel like you are just rushing from one subject to another? When things happen so fast, maybe you can’t understand clearly what you are doing or learning, so it is important to stop yourself to think about what you have been doing or learning.
Self-reflection(反省) means slowing down and calming yourself, including calming your mind. Some people like to do self-reflection only in their mind. Others keep a diary. Each method works. You can follow the steps to do self-reflection.
First, choose the proper time to do it. School textbooks are divided into units of study. This makes it easier to begin self-reflection. Look for time when you finish a unit of study. Sometimes you know it’s the time because there is some kind of test. Use these natural breaks to stop and do self-reflection.
Then, find a quiet place and take out your reflection diary. Write down some notes on the new things that you learned in the unit.
Finally, think about things that you are not sure of. Maybe you learned a new way to work out a maths problem, but you’re sure when to use it. Writing down your questions will help you remember to look for answers the next time you are working with the same topic.
Successful students always know self-reflection is important. If you have never taken the time to do self-reflection, try it now.
    53. What do you need to do when you can’t understand what you’re doing or learning?
    ___________________________________________________________________
    54. What methods do people usually use to do self-reflection?
    ___________________________________________________________________

    C. To invite her friends to go to a yard sale. D. To explain how to deal with useless things.

24 Which of the following is best for the first subtitle(副标题)?
    A. Read Books of All Types B. Start with Your Interests
    C. Read the Books for School D. Pick the Books on Your Own
    25. What does the underlined word “blurbs” mean in Paragraph 3?
    A. 简介 B. 说明 C. 内容 D. 书目
    26. When joining a club for reading, you should ________.
    A. share your information with people online B. meet your online friends from time to time
    C. spend less time on the social networking sites D. try to keep your personal information carefully
    【答案】24. B 25. A 26. D

    A A diary. B. A story. C. A speech. D. A letter.

    A. show what is happening to us B. build and develop our country
    C. influence the people in the future D. help understand the people in the past

Once my father asked me to hold his hammer while he repaired something so we could have some time to talk to each other.

    【解析】
【详解】讲述现在的希望,用一般现在时;我们we;都all;希望hope,主语“we”后用动词原形,hope后接省略that的宾语从句;他he;能can,其后接动词原形;实现梦想realize one’s dream,表示“他”的梦想,用his替代one’s;尽快as soon as possible;将来in the future。句子开头首字母大写。故填We all hope he can realize his dream as soon as possible in the future.
    八、阅读表达(共3题;1小题1分、2小题2分、3小题3分,满分6分)

    【答案】例文:
    Dear Mark,
Thank you for your email. I’m very happy to tell you about the environment around me.
My hometown is a beautiful town. There are green hills and clean rivers, wide roads with many trees make our town look nicer. There isn’t any rubbish in the street. To protect the environment, our local government has made laws to stop people polluting the air and the water. People aren't allowed to drop litter or cut down trees, or they will be punished. I often do something to go green. I walk to school instead of going to school in my father’s car. I take my own bags to the supermarket. I think the environment in my hometown will become better, because everyone in my hometown is trying their best to do something for the environment.
What about the environment in your hometown? Hope to receive your reply soon.
    Best wishes.
    Li Ming
