Nearly 4,000 health care workers, first responders(现场急救员) and firefighters in six states took part in the study led by CDC researchers. From December 14 through March 13, the workers submitted every week nasal swabs(鼻拭子) for coronavirus testing. Infection rates fell after vaccination. “Our study shows that if you were fully vaccinated, you had 90 percent protection from infection”, says Jeff Burgess.
Other studies carried out in California and Texas also seem to back up the findings, researchers say in separate reports published March 23 in the New England Journal of Medicine. In the Texas report, 234 of 8,969 non-vaccinated employees at the University of Texas Southwester Medical Center in Dallas tested positive for the coronavirus from December 15 to January 28. That’s 2.61 percent, compared with 1. 82 percent (112 of 6, 144) of employees that had gotten one shot and 0. 05 percent (four of 8, 121) of fully vaccinated employees.
In the California report, infections among health care workers also fell(下降) with increasing vaccination levels. Only seven infections occurred among 4, 167 people who were at least 15 days out from getting their second dose of vaccine. The vaccines prevented health care workers in the study from becoming serious ill, says study coauthor Francesca Torriani, a professor at the University of California, San Diego.
“But to really stop the spread of the virus, it’s important to vaccinate 18- to 30-year-old”, Torriani says, “Those are the ones who are right now transmitting the disease.” Motivating these health people who are less likely to become severely ill in the first place to take the shots could be difficult, because some vaccinated people can still get infected, the CDC recommends that people who have gotten their shots continue to wear masks in public to avoid spreading the virus.
24. What can we learn from the study led by CDC researchers?
A.A small number of vaccinated people got infected.
B.The study was carried out only in California and Texas.
C. Nasal swabs were submitted for testing in three hours.
D. All participants (参与者)in the study were medical workers.
25. How does the author support the findings in the paragraph2 ?
A. By asking questions. B. By listing the statistics(数据).
C. By quoting (引用)the saying. D. By describing a process.
26. What does the California report suggest?
A.The vaccines have no side effects.
B. One dose of the vaccines can completely ensure your safety.
C. People are suggested to take two doses of vaccines.
D. Weak and old people should be cautious to get vaccinated.
27. According to Torriani, who are the important people to stop the COVID-19 transmission(传播)?
A. Healthy people. B. Weak people. C. Elderly people. D. Young people.

Being independent is an important skill for people who want to take control of their lives. 36
Believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, then who else will? We are all different and have something unique to say. No one can speak the words on your lips and not everyone is going to agree with what you say. 37 If you don’t have faith in yourself, you will always doubt yourself and turn to others for help every time you have to make a decision. Try to move away from that.

You might be treated badly for all sorts of unfair things: your skin color, your height, your weight, how much money you have, and just about everything else that makes you who you are. 39
Stop caring about what other people think. This is the most important thing about being independent. Stop worrying about other people’s opinions about your life, whether they are thinking about your clothes, your choice of career, or your choice of the significant other. 40
A. Here are some tips on how to be independent.
B. Accept that life is not fair.
C. These are your decisions, and not anyone else’s.
D. As long as you have made a decision—just do it!
