    Greatest Scientists of All Time
    Albert Einstein
As a journalist might say, Albert Einstein was the whole package: unique look (wild hair, untidy sweater), witty personality (his words, such as God not playing dice(骰子), would live on) and major scientific reputation (his papers turned physics upside down). Time magazine named him Person ofthe Century.
    Marie Curie
Born Maria Salomea Sklodowska in 1867 in Warsaw, Poland, she lived a hard life in her youth. Babbage thought Lovelace threw her magic around the most abstract of Sciences and has grasped it with a force which few male intellects(知识分子) could have placed over it.
    Nikola Tesla
We owe much of our modern electrified life to the lab experiments of Nikola Tesla, the Serbian-American engineer, born in 1856 in what’s now Croatia. His designs advanced alternating current(交流电) at the start of the electric age , powering American homes across the country. He developed the Tesla coil — a high-voltage transformer(高压变压器) — and techniques to convey power wirelessly. Cellphone makers (and others) are just now using the potential of this idea.

Betty White, a longtime television star who enjoyed a second wave of popularity in her 90s, was best known for her roles on The Golden Girls and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Before Betty White’s death at the age of 99 on New Year’s Eve, she was regularly asked to reveal her secret to living a long, happy life. Her answers often came in the form of humor. In 2011, the Golden Girls actress appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman and shared her “Top 10 Tips for Living a Long and Healthy Life.”“Try not to die,” White said. “Avoid tweeting any photos of your private parts,” and “get eight hours of beauty sleep — nine if you’re ugly”.The following year White told The New York Times that she was a “health nut” whose “favorite food is hot dogs with French fries. CTK Bio Canada (the “Company”) has developed a new bioplastic resin(树脂) designed to degrade(break down) by both industrial and home compostin( 堆制肥料), as well as in unmanaged environments like soil and seawater, in order to reduce microplastic pollution. The Company is now undertaking detailed experimental trials with academic partners to further strengthen and prove its technology ahead of expected commercial release in 2022, meanwhile a temporary patent(专利) has been applied for.
Over 360 million tons of plastic waste are now produced every year, with only 9% of that being recycled. CTK Bio Canada is aiming to replace conventional plastic used for packaging with a safer, more sustainable(可持续的) choice.
Bioplastics currently account for only 1% of global plastic production, and much of this requires specialized composting equipment in order to break them down. High costs, issues with production equipment, and poor long-term steady state have also limited the broader commercial consumption of bioplastics.
Now, CTK Bio Canada founded by JK Park and Daniel Shum believes they have found a solution. The company is the new Canadian subsidiary(附属公司) ofKorean cosmetic giant CTK

Cosmetics (“CTK”). In a push to reduce their environmental footprint, CTK has paid much for
the research being done by the Canadian team. “CTK shares our vision for the future of the packaging industry, and has been a perfect fit.”“Canada has tremendous strength in the bioresources sector, giving us a real competitive edge,” said Park, CEO of CTK Bio Canada. “The goals we set for ourselves were high, so we wanted to work with the very best in the field to produce a material that could do better than what was currently on the market.”
    28. Why is the new bioplastic resin developed?

    A. To degrade it by home composting.
    C. To conduct detailed experimental trials.
    B. To prove its technology.
    D. To reduce microplastic pollution.
    29. How many tons of plastic waste is recycled?
    A. 360,000,000. B. 32,400,000. C. 3,600,000. D. Not mentioned.
    30. What is the attitude of Park towards the research on bioplastics?
    A. Negative. B. Unclear. C. Positive. D. Opposed.
    31. What is the passage mainly about?

    A. A new sustainable material for the future.
    C. Production of bioplastics.

“It’s like tasering(电击) an elderly person who’s already on a pacemaker(起搏器),” says a British newspaper boss ofthe newsprint(新闻纸) market, where prices have risen by over 50% in a matter ofmonths.
When times were good, before ads went online, newspapers had a supportive partnership with paper mills(工厂).As ads went away and circulations fell, “paper mills had the worst of it for years as newspapers reduced pages, went wholly digital or shut for ever.”
The papers were able to cut down the cost of newsprint from firms fighting for business as demand decreased. Price-taking paper mills suffered in silence, taking out newsprint capacity(容 量) and adjusting machines to make packaging for e-commerce.The pandemic, with people working from home, meant even fewer newspaper sales, which depressed demand for newsprint again and increased the pain for paper suppliers. In the past 24 months European mills have responded by shutting almost a fifth of their newsprint capacity, says a buyer for a large British newspaper group.
Then reopening of economies and growing demand for newsprint, combined with much reduced capacity and coupled with up-going energy prices, has resulted in a price shock. Particularly controversial are additional energy charges that some paper suppliers are seeking to pass on.
Newspaper firms consider this amounts as breaking agreements. European newspapers will have to pay newsprint prices that are 50-70% higher in the first quarter of 2022 compared with the year before. As for their counterparts(同行)in Asia and Oceania, they are facing prices around 25% to 45% above their usual level.North American prices went up earlier, and more gradually; agreements are fixed monthly rather than half-yearly.But there, too, newsprint prices are 20-30% higher in 2021 than in 2020.
Germany’s print and media industry association has warned that mills are going to force newspapers to quit paper editions, hurting each other in the process. But more digital adrenaline(肾上腺素) is one possible response of newspapers to the paper mills’ tasers.

32.What can be learned from the first three paragraph?
    A. Newspapers have raised their prices by over 50% .
    B. Newspapers and paper mills were good friends all the time.
    C. Newspapers and paper mills affect each other.
    D. Newspapers increased their sales and the pain of paper mills.
    33. The paper mills and the newspapers don’t agree with each other on the prices for ________ ?
    A. Reopening ofeconomies. B. Growing demand for newsprint.
    C. Much reduced capacity. D. Additional energy consumption.
    34. Which of the following area has the highest increase in newsprint prices?
    A. Europe. B. Asia. C. Oceania. D. North American.
    35. Which column does this passage belong to?
    A. Health. B. Science. C. Business. D. Environment.

    根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多 余选项。
Although the finished work may be read in a few seconds, a short poem can be even more difficult to write than a longer one. You have fewer words to get your point across and to arouse the same emotion and meaning in the reader. For your first short poems, here are some instructions.
Start with a simple statement. This will be the basic subject of your poem. 36 You'll find the poetry as you open it up and dig deeper into it.
37 . Brainstorm words and phrases that help open up each of the key words in your statement. Find some ways of describing that you can use to make your description unique.
38 . The line break is what makes a piece of writing poetry, rather than prose. Line breaks give every poem a rhythm, even if you're writing in free verse with no rhyme or other inflexible structure.
Go longer in your first draft. It's far easier to cut than it is to add. When you sit down to write your first draft, don't worry about the form or length you've chosen. 39 .
Experiment with traditional forms. If you've never written a short poem before, the haiku can be an easy place to start. 40 . You'll write 17 syllables through 3 lines of text, most commonly in the 5-7-5 style.
    A. Expand the description of your subject.
    B. It's also a popular and recognizable form.
    C. Other traditional forms are well worth a try.
    D. Give your poem good rhythm and meaning.
    E. Write as many words as you think you need.
    F. Break lines to strengthen rhythm and meaning.
    G. Your original statement doesn't necessarily need to be "poetic."

W: Yes. I'm going to the UK with my dad next month.
M: Cool. Is it a holiday?
W: Not really. ⑪He is going on a business trip in London. And I’m going with him to check out a few universities that I might apply for next year.
M: Sounds great. So how long will you be there?
W: I'm going to be in London for five days. After that, I will visit a couple of cities in Scotland as well.
M: Checking out some schools there, too?
W: Exactly.⑫Well, have a nice weekend and see you at school on Monday.
    M: Thanks. See you!
    Text 9
M: Hey, Jessica! There is a new fun test in the paper. I love to fill these things out. It's about health.
W: OK. Read it to me. I'll keep score.
M: OK. ⑬⑯No.1: Do you smoke more than ten cigarettes a day?
W: That's easy. I gave up smoking three years ago.
M: Right. I should, too. ⑬But for now, I'd have to say yes.OK. ⑯No.2: Do you have a checkup at your doctor's office at least once a year?
W: Yeah, ⑭the company makes us go to the doctor every year. How about you?
M: Well, I went to the doctor... let me see... about two years ago.
W: You should go more often.
M: Well, ⑯let's move on to No.7: Do you work more than ten hours a day?
W: No, but you've been working a lot lately.
M: Yes, I'm really tired. But we've been busy, though. It's not that easy to slow down. ⑯The last question: Do you worry a lot in your life?
W: Yeah. I guess I'd have to say yes. ⑮I should take it easy more.
M: ⑮I definitely should relax more, too. You know what? It's surprising that I'm not dead already...

    71. 考察谓语动词。题干 open 做了 exhibition 的谓语, 根据时间提示词 on Jan. 10, 2022,此处应选用一般过去式,故把 open 改为 opened 。
    72. 考察介词短语的用法。 in celebration of 意为以庆祝...,故应加上介词 in。
    73. 考察非谓语动词。 Olympic city culture and traditional Chinese culture are on the display
此处应考察短语 between...and 的用法,故将 or 改为 and。
    79. 考察非谓语动词。此处 describe 做了 poem 的定语, 且和 poem 构成主动关系。
    80. 考察定语从句。在定语从句中, 关系代词 that 不可接于介词后,先行词为 Winter Paralympic Games ,故将 that 改为which。

    one possible version:
On October 10th, together with my classmates and teachers,I went on a field trip to the Guangming Farm, where we helped farmers with rice harvest.
We gathered at the school gate and took a bus to the farm.On arrival,we received a warm welcome and were instructed to take different jobs in small groups, where one of us were taught to get in rice with sickles, some to thresh rice, some to put rice straw or threshed rice together.I was in the group to cut. I bowed and tried my best to cut.It was such a hard job that I soon suffered a pain in the hand ,waist and back.Seeing all the others working hard, I stuck to it until it’s time to stop. Delighted at our harvest,we got back home after finishing our tasks for the afternoon.
Tiring as the field trip is, it is meaningful as well. From the trip I have learned the importance of labouring and that only by paying, can I gain.
