I recently took my mom on a special trip to Brenda Gantt's restaurant. Brenda is a celebrity chef and my mom was delighted at the idea of meeting her in person.
While most of us looked forward to her Saturday breakfast, I was quickly attracted by a holiday tradition that Brenda shared with us. It turns out that in addition to being a master in the kitchen, Brenda also enjoys crafting. She just happened to mention a fairly easy project that I now plan to use for my Thanksgiving table this year.
Brenda told us how long ago she had made personalized "seating cards ” out of tree branches or small trunks. "You cut them thick enough so that they sit up at the table, " she said. These personalized “cards” have become a beloved and time-honored part of her family. She shared that they still have the one saying “Big Daddy” in honor of her late husband.
I got the help from my son and husband, who cut nice branches for me to use. I can't wait to see the fun my children will have personalizing them. And as an added bonus for the adults, the craft time might even provide a short window of quiet during our usually noisy holidays.
Like Brenda, my family also has a special "Big Daddy" --- that's what our children have always called my dad, continuing the tradition of what I called my dad's dad. Even though Big Daddy always sits at the head of the table, it will be fun to have a special decoration this year to reserve his space... and everyone else's too!
    24. What do we know about Brenda Gantt?
    A. She is a master of handwork.
    B. She is distinguished for her cooking.
    C. She enjoys making presents during holidays.
    D. She runs a restaurant in memory of her husband.
    25. How is Brenda's family similar to the author's?
    A. They take special trips during Thanksgiving.
    B. They have a seating card saying “Big Daddy”.
    C. They prepare holiday meals for family members.
    D. They share the same tradition of calling the grandpas.
    26. Which of the following can describe the seating — cards — making?
    A. Troublesome. B. Boring. C. Demanding. D. Cheerful.
    27. What is the text mainly about?
    A. Exchanging breakfast cooking skills.

How many bicycles do you need in your life? For 67-year-old Chai Lin, the answer is 1300 and counting. Chai's passion for bicycles dates back to the 1960s when he saw some people riding the two-wheeled vehicle in his home city of Lanzhou.
However, at that time, owning a bicycle was luxurious for ordinary Chinese. He had to cut back on other expenses for months before he could save up for a bicycle. To get enough money sooner, Chai made use of his talent in calligraphy and painting by selling artworks on the street. Thanks to all the efforts and “ crowd-funding" in his family, Chai got his first bike. The whole family treasured the bicycle and Chai was even unwilling to ride it.
Becoming a businessman years later, Chai began to collect bikes of various brands and ages, which brought Chai great satisfaction. But some of his friends said he bought nothing more than a pile of scrap metal, while others think he was blowing money on nonsense. But he was never influenced by those comments.
In 2009, with the support of the Gansu province government, he invested 200 million yuan for a museum just for his bike. After 10 years' effort, the Gansu bicycle museum, located in Chengguan district of Lanzhou, finally opened to the public in January 2019 free of charge. In the first half of 2021 alone, it received more than 900, 000 tourists.
Chai has constantly upgraded the facilities inside the museum, equipping it with state-of-the-art technology. For example, VR installation is available for visitors to experience the feeling of riding on different types of bikes. Chai hopes to expand the scale of the playing area of the museum and provide a comfortable home for his bikes.
    28. When did Chai's love for bikes begin?
    A. When his family bought a bike.
    B. When he spotted some people ride bikes.
    C. When he knew different brands of bikes.
    D. When he saw paintings of bikes in a museum.
    29. Why was Chai unwilling to ride his new bike?
    A. He cherished the bike so much.
    B. He had no idea how to ride the bike.
    C. He was busy with selling artworks on the street.
    D. He was afraid that his family would borrow the bike.
    30. How did Chai's friends think of his collection?

The narwhal is a mysterious resident of the remote Arctic. The species, a relatively small whale is known for growing a spiral tusk (螺旋长牙)that resembles the historical description of a unicorn's horn.
Experts have long speculated why narwhals have this strange long tooth. Some think that the tusk is a tool for survival, as they could possibly use it to break up ice or spear fish for meals. However, the vast majority of female narwhals don't have tusks, and females tend to live longer than males. Most scientists now think the tusk provides no advantage for survival, but rather acts as a sex characteristic and determines the social rank. But the tusk may also have another purpose. A 2014 study found the narwhal's tusk is full of sensitive nerve endings that allow the whale to detect changes in the environment, such as changes in temperature and salinity. The finding suggests that the tusk might also be a sensory organ.
Narwhals are an important subsistence resource (生存资源)for high Arctic communities. They provide the humans with high-calorie fat, protein and nutrients, vital and hard to come by in the harsh northern winters. Narwhal tusks were carved into artworks and sold to support families with few job opportunities.
Narwhal tusk is protected now. But similar to all other Arctic wildlife, narwhals are likely to struggle in the face of climate change. Warm temperatures in the Arctic have caused sea ice to disappear at an alarming rate. New shipping channels have become accessible, threatening narwhals and other marine mammals. Researches suggest that narwhals are the most vulnerable (易受伤害的)marine mammals to human activities in the Arctic because these isolated creatures are highly sensitive to ship activities. Their response to changing conditions near the pole could provide insight into larger changes in Earth's future.

根据文章第二段画线词后的“why narwhals have this strange long tooth(为什么独角鲸有这种奇怪的长牙?)”以及“Some think that the tusk is a tool for survival, as they could possibly use it to break up ice or spear fish for meals. However, the vast majority of female narwhals don't have tusks, and females tend to live longer than males. Most scientists now think the tusk provides no advantage for survival.(一些人认为长牙是一种生存工具,因为它们可以用它来打碎冰或刺鱼吃。
根据文章第二段末句“The finding suggests that the tusk might also be a sensory organ.(这一发现表明,长牙也可能是一种感觉器官。)”

Their response to changing conditions near the pole could provide insight into larger changes in Earth's future.
文章第一段“The narwhal is a mysterious resident of the remote Arctic.(独角鲸是遥远北极的神秘居民)”引出独角鲸;文章第二段“Experts have long speculated why narwhals have this strange long tooth.(专家们长期以来一直在猜测独角鲸为什么有这种奇怪的长牙)”讲述对独角鲸的长牙的各种猜测;第三段“Narwhals are an important subsistence resource (生存资源)for high Arctic communities.(独角鲸是北极高地社区的重要生存资源。)”

    • Be honest: Don't lie or exaggerate (夸大).It blows up in your face sooner or later.

    • Use power words: Typically this refers to action verbs. ____38____( “design” vs. “make”;“cooperative” vs. “work well with others” ).
•____39____ : Speak positively about yourself. Obviously, don't brag about (吹嘘)your personal skills and talents, but neither is it helpful to criticize yourself.

分析可知,“that we say goodbye to those disappointments and failure of the previous year”为之前名词“a time”的定语从句,先行词为a time在从句中作时间状语,应是关系副词when引导从句。故将that改为when。
故将my改为our。
分析可知,“make this new year meaningful than the past”在句中作结果状语,动词“make”与主语“We”之间为主动关系,应是现在分词形式。
故将the改为an。
分析可知,“In the post-epidemic era”为句子的时间状语,与后文“let’s devote ourselves to realizing our dreams and stick on fighting in the brand-new year”之间非并列关系,无需并列连词。
故将on改为to。

    My Ideal University
When it comes to my ideal university, Zhejiang University is on the top of my list.
First, please allow me to introduce it briefly to you. Located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang University is a comprehensive university with many renowned scholars and a number of interesting majors. I choose it as my dream university for two reasons. On the one hand, I love Hangzhou, a beautiful city with spectacular scenery and splendid culture. On the other hand, Zhejiang University is an advanced and qualified university, which is helpful for me to build a solid foundation for my future development.
I will devote myself to studying hard in the next five months, hoping to be admitted to my dream university.
When it comes to→As for
    简洁地:briefly→simply
    许多:a number of→a lot of
    选择:choose→select
Located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang University is a comprehensive university with many renowned scholars and a number of interesting majors.
Zhejiang University, which is located in Hangzhou, is a comprehensive university with many renowned scholars and a number of interesting majors.

[高分句型2] I will devote myself to studying hard in the next five months, hoping to be admitted to my dream university.
