 In the past, Hobo and Eddie were

 good friends. But now something

happens between them. Do you want

to know what’s wrong with them?

Step 2: Presentation

Read the dialogue, and find out the answers to the following questions.

1)What was in the bowl an hour ago?

2) What did Eddie do?      

3) Why did he do that thing?      

4) Why does Hobo think Eddie has changed?

Explaining the new tense :

the present perfect tense

 Eg: 1) Have you seen my food?

(see—saw—seen)

2)I’ve (I have) eaten it.

(eat—ate—eaten)

3) We have not seen him for a long time ……        

4) How has he changed?

Let Ss read the dialogue in pairs.

Step 3:  Presentation

1. Show the pictures . Discuss them with the Ss.: What’s the use of it?

   Where do you usually see it?

    Is it a special one? Why?

  Which transport do you like best?

2. Write the correct names under the pictures.

Step 4: Practice

 Finish part B (Back to the past)   & complete the timeline.

Step 1   Free talk .

Where is your hometown?

Has it changed a lot?

Can you tell us something about the changes to your hometown? 

As you know, I am a teacher now. But five years ago, I was a teacher, too. So I have worked here for 3 years. I think our school changed a lot. Do you think so? Everything has changed a lot?

Step2: Presentation.  

Have you been to Beijing? Now, look at some pictures of it. Witness great changes to it over 100 years. Show pictures.

Step 3 Reading A

1. Would you like to listen to Mr Chen, Daniel’s grandpa? Play the tape for Ss 2 times. Answer the following questions.  

How long has Mr Chen known Sunshine Town?   

Did Mr Chen live there all the time? Why?   

Does Mr Chen think the place changed a lot?   

What are the differences between the past and present?

2.Check the answers if they can not answer.

3. Explain some difficult points.

4. Ask Ss to read in pairs and try to act it out.

Who is Mr Chen?

(He is Daniel's grandpa who lived in Sunshine Town before.)

What do you know about Mr Chen?

(He got married in 1965.Then he and his wife moved to another flat in the center of town. Lase Last year, they moved again. Now, he often meets his friends in the park.He feels a bit lonely from time to time.)

What was in Sunshine Town in the past?

(There was some small restaurants,shops and market stalls. There was also a small post office and an old cinema.)

How many people lived there in the past?(30,000people.)

What is the town centre now?(It's a park. )

What does Mr Chen do in the park?(He meets his friends to play cards and chinese Chinese chess.)

Why is there less water pollution than before?(Because the government has took  taken action to reduce the pollution. )

Step2:Presentation

A. Present perfect tense:

 ①概念:

  动词结构：have/has+动词的过去分词

  基本用法：表示这个动作发生在不确定的过去时间并对现在有影响。

  拓展延伸：在现在完成时态中，常连用的副词有already, yet, just, before, ever, never, recently，等 以及 for和since 引导的时间短语。

 ②let students find some model sentences in comic strip and in the interview.

  eg.I've just eaten it.

(3) There have been many changes in this town. What has the centre of town become?(It has become a park. )

(4) How does Mr. Chen feel from time to time?(He feels a bit lonely)

Step 2  Presentation

1.present these two answers:

2.Ask the Ss some questions and pay attention to their answers:

3 Remind the Ss of the differences between the simple past tense and the PPT. and discuss how to form present perfect tense.

Step 3  Present perfect tense

1. We use the simple past tense to talk about what happened at a definite time in the past.We use the present perfect tense to talk about things that started in the past and still have some connection with the present.

STEP 1 Talking about your life

STEP 2 Listen to the tape

Explain that Millie and Sandy are talking about the changes in their life. Listen to the tape and try to answer the questions.

Ask the following questions.

1)  How did Millie keep in touch with Becky?

2)  When did Millie last see Becky?

With the help of these questions, it will be easier for students to focus on the key information. They will also help them to organize their own dialogue.

STEP 3 Read and act

Get the students to read the dialogue on Page16 aloud. Pay special attention to the changes in their life. Then give the students several minutes for them to practice and act. Encourage them to remember the dialogue.

Then let the students make a similar conversation in pairs. Work in pairs and find out about the changes in your partner’s life.

STEP4 facts and opinions

We often use facts and opinions when we write. Facts are true statements. Opinions tell what we believe, feel or think. They may not be true.

Turn to Page 17. Complete Part A ,B. Ask the students to choose which are opinions and which are facts.

Show two pictures of changes to Moonlight Town. Let’s go through   Part A,B and get the students to talk about them.

In this way, the students can get some idea about what Amy saw, what she heard and how she felt. Get the students to read the phrases one by one.

STEP 4 Completing the sample article

Give the students 4-5 minutes to complete the sample article on Page 19, Part C. And then check the answers to it. Get the students to figure out the structure of the article.

Ask them to work in pairs to find out the main idea of each paragraph.

STEP 5 Work out the structure

   Analysis the structure of the passage and work out the structure about how to write a report about the changes.

STEP 6 Discuss what to write

Go through the sentences listed on Page 19, PartC and make sure that the students can get more ideas about what to write about here.

STEP 7 Writing

Give the students 3-4 minutes for them to decide which changes to write about. Walk around to help the students to organize their ideas and get more ideas. Tell the students to write about their own experience because this may give their article power.

STEP 8 Language points

Go through the article and help the students to locate some important sentence patterns. Explain some important language points.
