Liu Yu, a fifteen-year-ld by frm Shandng, is a running star. He is n his schl team and has always wanted t be a prfessinal runner when he grws up. Hwever, his parents wn’t allw him t train s much. “Of curse we want t see him achieve his dreams,” says Mr. Liu. “And we knw hw much he lves running. My wife and I have supprted every ne f his races. We have nthing against running!
But we think ur sn needs t think abut ther pssible jbs. He’s getting lder nw, s he needs t think abut what will happen if he desn’t end up a prfessinal runner.” Liu Yu desn’t really agree. “Well, I think I shuld be allwed t decide fr myself,” he says. “My parents have always taught me hw imprtant it is t wrk hard at schl and enter university. I understand this, but I’m se-rius abut running. It’s the nly thing I’ve ever wanted t d.”
His parents believe that Liu Yu shuld study hard in the evenings s they dn’t allw him t practice running at night. “Maybe he thinks it’s t strict r unfair,” says Mrs. Liu. “But we think we’re ding the right thing. He needs t spend mre time n his hmewrk because it is difficult t becme a prfessinal sprts star.
But Liu Yu still disagrees. “I knw my parents care abut me. They always talk abut what will happen if I dn’t succeed. But I will! I’m a quick runner! I think I shuld be allwed t makethis chice myself. Only then will I have a chance t achieve my dream.”
