Teaching procedure

Step 1 Greetings, warming and leading –in

T: These four characters are from a famous story. Do you know the name of it?

S: Yes . Journey to the West.

T: What other stories do you know? Can you name it?

S: Snow White …

T: I believe you all know this story, the name is  Yu Gong moves the mountains. I am very curious about why and how. Can you help me?

Step 2 presentation

T: Question number one: why did Yu Gong want to move the mountains? Please listen to the tape and write down the key words.

T: What words did you write down?

S: two mountains , big and high,  long time. The other side.

T: Good, who would like to connect all these word to a complete sentence?

T: Now, let’s go on. (deal with the following questions: How did he move the mountains? Where would they put the earth and stone ?

Step 3. Group work

T: Now, please work in a group of four to retell the story. Maybe you can use: once upon a time…  He told his family…. An old man saw him… In the end…)

Step 4 Discussion

T： After retelling the story, I think you may have different opinions. Do you agree with what Yu Gong did? What do you think about him?
