1.Lead-in Check the homework. Ask students to read their sentences comparing facts about Elephant and Panda. 2.Discussion Here are some facts about koala, use the information below to make sentences. Koala — is 75 cm tall — weighs 10 kilos — eats leaves — sleeps 20 hours a day 3.Reading (1)Pre-reading Talk about panda in class. Use these words to help you. big, bamboo, zoo, popular, cute, black and white, Sichuan, famous, endangered, beautiful, forest, protect (2)Reading guidance: scanning This means moving your eyes quickly down the page to find specific information. (3)Fast-reading a.(2b) Scan the article to find out what these numbers mean: 10, 12, 200, 2000 b.(2c) Scan the article again and write short answers to the questions. What is Lin Wei’s job? (A panda keeper) What do the baby pandas eat for breakfast? (Milk) What do adult pandas eat? (Bamboos) Why are pandas endangered? (Less forest for pandas to live) What is one way of saving pandas? (Teaching children) (4)Careful–reading (2d) Read tha passage carefully and complete the sentences using words and phrases from the passage. (5)After-reading (2e) Discuss what other ways you think children can help to save the pandas. 4.Intensive reading (1)Get the Ss to read the passage after the tape and pay attention to some difficult points.
