    Lesson Plan Presentation

                            Guo Yufen  Tuoli Middle School in Jinghe

    Hello, Everyone! Im Guo Yufen from Tuoli Middle School . Im glad to present my lesson plan here. Today my topic is What were you doing when the rainstorm came ?Im going to introduce my lesson from the following aspects: the analysis of teaching material and students, teaching aims, teaching key points and difficult points, teaching and studying methods, teaching procedures and blackboard design.

    I. Analysis of teaching material .

    Firstly, lets focus on the analysis of teaching material .

    This lesson is from PEP SECONDARY ENGLISH BOOK, the second of Grade 8, Unit 5 Section B What were you doing when the rainstorm came ? This is a reading lesson , it plays a very important role in this unit .Through this lesson Ss will improve their different abilities in class , especially the ability of reading . They will learn more about how to describe unforgettable events.

    IIAnalysis of students

    Secondly, it is about students. Our students are in Grade 8 .They have learned present progressive since they were in Grade 7. And most of them can communicate with others in English, using the simple words and expressions. its difficult for some of them to describe a whole past event using Past Progressive tense. And students may be not familiar with the two events, so Ill provide some background knowledge when necessary to arouse studentslearning interests. Ss may be not active in class because they are afraid of making mistakes .

    III. Analysis of teaching aims.

    Based on the New Curriculum Standard and the analysis of teaching material and students, I set the following teaching aims.

    Knowledge aim:

    By the end of this lesson, students can master the important words and expressions, and they can know about the information of Dr, Martin Luther King and the September 11th attack. They also can use the Past Progressive tense in the proper situation.

    Ability aim: 

    Students can predict  What is the passage about?with the help of the title and the pictures .Students develop the ability of fast reading, intensive reading, looking for information, getting the main ideas, catching the key words and making use of information according to the context.   

    Emotional aim: (1)To oppose the racism and terrorism. (2). To realize the importance of justice and peace. (3). Students learn to love peace, love world, love life. 

    IV. Analysis of key and difficult points.

    According to the above analysis, I set the following Teaching key points and difficult points. 

    The key points is: To grasp the new words and expressions. To know the details and general idea of the passage.

    And the difficult points is :Learn to use simple past tense and past progressive tense to describe past events. 

    V. Analysis of teaching and studying methods.

    Next, lets move on to the Teaching approaches and learning ways 

    1. Teaching approaches:  I will adopt task-based language teaching approachguided discovery teaching approach and communicative language teaching approach. 

    2. Learning ways: Cooperation and selfstudying will be involved.

    VI. Analysis of teaching procedures.

    Now, Id like to describe the teaching procedure.

    Step 1 Leading in 

    In this section, I will show some videos about important events and have a free talk. Lead in the text through two dates. This step can arouse the studentsinterest and encourage them to take an active part in class , on the other hand , it also aims to help the students clean up some of the word barriers in the next steps about reading and writing .

    Step 2 Pre-reading 

    Look at the title and pictures to guessWhats the passage about?.Then provide some background knowledge to let students have a better understanding about the two events. Ask the volunteers to read the passage and then read it aloud together .

    Step 3 While-reading 

    In the Fast reading, Students should read passage fast to find out the main idea and then answer the question.

    About Intensive reading, Ill guide the Ss to read the passage carefully and take some important notes. There are two tasks for students.

    Task 1 is to read paragraph 1 and paragraph 2, then fill in the blanks in pairs.

    Task 2 is to read the other two paragraphs, then answer the questions in groups.

    Step 4: After- reading:

    I will lead the students to read the passage again and they discuss with their deskmates to judge T or F in activity 2c .

    Next ,the students will be divided into some groups--- a group of three or four: The group members can work together to accomplish activity 2d.

    The most difficult thing is to retell the passage. Students can talk about their retellings in their group. Then each group choose a reporter to show their work. I will try to encourage and praise them more.

    Step 5:Summary and homework

    I will ask students to recall what we have learnt today, mainly focus on the key words and the sentences to describe past events. Then I would like to send a word to all of the students :Remember and value everything we have owned.As for homework, students will write a short passage about their unforgettable events. Give students some hints about words and sentences. This step can help students promoting writing by reading .

    VII. Analysis of blackboard design.

    Making a good use of the blackboard can help Ss learn better. The blackboard design of this lesson is like this. On the right side are some key words and phrases and on the left side is the important notes. The middle part is the content of the passage.
