I sorted all the necessary paperwork out and moved into a flat of my own within the first couple of days. Great, or so I thought. At 4 am and at several intervals after that, I was rudely awoken by the cock that lives opposite me. Fantastic! I now have 5 extra alarms every morning. In the following weeks, I also started to notice a trend. Things in my flat started to break at the rate of one object per day, like the hot water line, bowls, cups, the shower, doors or glass shelves. Yes, I am clumsy but things just fell apart. If it wasn't broken, it would either be dirty or missing. Using my washing basket for the first time was pretty disgusting. When I took out my clothes, they were swiftly followed by a hundred or so bugs that were living in the bottom. As for the general lack of equipment in the house, there was no oven, tin opener, sharp knives or potato peeler. It turned out making a burger from scratch wasn't the best idea. I had a small microwave and a grill. I thought the general understanding was never to put metal in a microwave but I went on. Smoke soon started to appear. I was not quite sure if it was the burger or the grill but as soon as I opened the door, the electricity cut out. I spent the following 10 minutes in a dark, smoky room hunting for the power switch using the light from my mobile phone, which broke the week after and left me without a connection to the outer world.Luckily, I'm now borrowing a phone and my luck has returned. No more things have broken (probably because there is nothing left to break). I've also realized that even if a flat looks pretty, it doesn't mean its contents work. I am also learning how to adapt to life with limited, broken utensils (用具). 4.What problem did the author have in the morning?A.She often slept late.B.Her alarm failed to work.C.She got some noisy neighbors.D.Her sleep was disturbed by a rooster. 根据第一段中的“At 4 am and at several intervals after that, I was rudely awoken by the cock that lives opposite me”可知,凌晨四点开始,每隔一会儿,作者就被对面公鸡的打鸣声吵醒;据此可知,作者的睡眠被公鸡打鸣声打扰了,故D项正确。5.What can we know about the author from Paragraph 2?A.She was a very careful woman.B.She was quite satisfied with her flat.C.Her flat was pretty old but comfortable.D.Her household articles were in poor condition. 根据第二段第二句“Things in my flat started to break at the rate of one object per day, like the hot water line, bowls, cups, the shower, doors or glass shelves”可知,作者所住的房子的东西每天损坏一件;据此可推知,作者所使用的日常用品很破旧,故D项正确。6.What happened when the author was making a burger?A.She was seriously injured.B.She made a terrible mistake.C.She broke her phone accidentally.D.She suffered a sudden power failure. 根据第三段中的“I had a small microwave and a grill. I thought the general understanding was never to put metal in a microwave but I went on. Smoke soon started to appear”,并结合该段其他内容可知,作者将金属烤架放进微波炉里,启动后发生了故障,电源被切断;据此可推知,作者在制作汉堡时犯了个错误,故B项正确。7.What is the text mainly about?A.Remaining optimistic.B.How to choose a nice flat.C.Learning to live in a new flat.D.Why living abroad is not easy. CYou've probably heard it suggested that you need to move more throughout the day, and as a general rule of thumb, that “more” is often defined (给……下定义) as around 10,000 steps. With many Americans tracking their steps via new fitnesstracking wearables, or even just by carrying their phone, more and more people use the 10,000step rule as their marker for healthy living. Dr. Greg Hager, professor of computer science at Johns Hopkins, decided to take a closer look at that 10,000step rule, and he found that using it as a standard may be doing more harm than good for many.“It turns out that in 1960 in Japan they figured out that the average Japanese man, when he walked 10,000 steps a day burned something like 3,000 calories and that is what they thought the average person should consume so they picked 10,000 steps as a number,” Hager said.According to Hager, asking everyone to shoot for 10,000 steps each day could be harmful to the elderly or those with medical conditions that make it unwise for them to jump into that level of exercise, even if it's walking. The bottom line is that 10,000 steps may be too many for some and too few for others. He also noted that those with shorter legs have an easier time hitting the 10,000step goal because they have to take more steps than people with longer legs to cover the distance. It seems that 10,000 steps may be suitable for the latter.A more recent study focused on older women and how many steps can help maintain good health and promote longevity (长寿). The study included nearly 17,000 women with an average age of 72. Researchers found that women who took 4,400 steps per day were about 40% less likely to die during a followup period of just over four years, compared to women who took 2,700 steps. Interestingly, women in the study who walked more than 7,500 steps each day got no extra boost in longevity. 8.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 1 refer to?A.The phone recording.  B.The 10,000step rule.C.The healthy living.   D.The fitnesstracking method. Greg Hager, professor of computer science at Johns Hopkins, decided to take a closer look at that 10,000step rule”(约翰·霍普金斯大学计算机科学教授Greg Hager博士决定进一步研究这条一万步法则)可知,他发现将每日一万步作为一种标准可能对许多人弊大于利,故答案为B。9.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?A.How many steps a Japanese walks.B.How we calculate the amount of steps.C.If burning 3,000 calories daily is scientific.D.Where 10,000 steps a day came from. D。10.Who will probably benefit from 10,000 steps each day according to Hager?A.Senior citizens.B.Young shortlegged people.C.Healthy longlegged people.D.Weak individuals. C。11.How many steps may the researchers suggest senior citizens take each day?A.4,400 steps.   B.10,000 steps.C.2,700 steps.   D.7,500 steps. Researchers found that women who took 4,400 steps per day were about 40% less likely to die during a followup period of just over four years, compared to women who took 2,700 steps”(研究人员发现,与每天走2 700步的女性相比,每天走4 400步的女性在4年以上的随访期内死亡的可能性要低40%左右)可推断,研究人员可能建议老年人为了健康每天走4 400步,故答案为A。DAn unconventional new initiative (首创) in Canada will soon allow doctors to prescribe art to their patients — by giving them free access to a local museum. Wandering through the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), these patients and their loved ones will be able to feast their eyes on the peaceful collections of art.The initiative is the first of its kind in the world. And while you certainly can't replace a conventional treatment with a couple of paintings, the idea is for such “prescriptions” to assist a person's current treatment plan. Under the new program, members of the Francophone Association of Doctors in Canada (MFDC) will be able to hand out up to 50 prescriptions for their patients. These prescriptions will be available for those with a wide range of mental and physical illnesses, and each of them will allow two adults and two children to visit the museum for free.“By offering free admission to a safe, welcoming place, a relaxing experience, a moment of relief, and an opportunity to strengthen ties with loved ones, MMFAMFDC Museum Prescriptions contribute to the patient's wellbeing and recovery,” explains a news conference from the MMFA. It may look a lot like a marketing effort for the museum but there's also increasing evidence that the display of visual art, especially if it's showing nature, can have positive effects on health outcomes. In some ways, the benefits of looking at art appear a little similar to physical activity. A systematic review of clinical art therapy (疗法) found that visual art has significant and positive effects on depression, anxiety, mood, and selfesteem. Findings like these are slowly gaining attraction in the medical community, making artwork a higher priority (优先) in hospitals around the world. In the US, nearly half of all health care institutions have reported including art in health care programming, such as art therapy and the placement of visual art in hospitals. With spaces dedicated (专用的) to art therapy and also a medical consultation room, the MMFA already provides services for people with mental health issues, eating disorders, and Alzheimer's disease, just to name a few. 12.How will some Canadian doctors treat their patients?A.Introducing fine arts to their patients.B.Feasting them in a peaceful and welcoming place.C.Keeping them company through the Montreal Museum.D.Giving them a prescription to access a local museum for free. 13.MMFA thinks the new initiative in Canada can be ________.A.a help with patients' recoveryB.a chance to make friendsC.the best option for the treatment planD.a substitute for conventional treatment解析:选A 细节理解题。由第四段的“‘...MMFAMFDC Museum Prescriptions contribute to the patient's wellbeing and recovery,’ explains a news conference from the MMFA.” 14.Why does the museum join in the program?A.To make visual art known to the public.B.To promote the museum into market.C.To strengthen ties with doctors.D.To advance the science of medicine. 由第五段中的“It may look a lot like a marketing effort for the museum”可知,博物馆加入该计划是为了推动博物馆进入市场。 15.What does the passage mainly talk about?A.Fine arts will take the place of medicine.B.Artists rarely suffer from some mental diseases.C.More than 50 prescriptions are available for patients.D.Art will be included in Canadian doctors' prescriptions. .阅读七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) (2021·江西八校联考)Flextime is a flexible hours schedule in which employees choose their own working hours, usually working within approximate limits set by the employer or by the government. __16__For employees, flextime has a clear advantage. __17__ For example, people can use flextime to create schedules which will allow them to go to school, handle childcare, assist relatives, and perform other tasks. Employees may also use their flextime to create a schedule which optimizes creativity, as in the case of someone who would prefer to work earlier in the day to get more accomplished.__18__ First, it tends to increase employees' satisfaction. This makes the company a better and more productive place to work. In addition, flextime can allow companies to serve clients for a greater portion of the day, as employees will be around at varying hours to answer phones, attend meetings, and so forth. Most flextime schedules include core time. __19__ Employees are also usually given an hourly, daily or weekly limit to ensure that they do not violate laws about working hours. Or the company is only willing to pay wages for so many hours of work each week.A classic example of a flexible time schedule is that someone who works four 10hour shifts a week can take three days off. Flextime can also be combined with flexplace, in which the environment is better than that of the office. __20__ Employers may also allow people to work in untraditional settings such as coffee houses.A.Employers benefit from flextime a lot.B.It's also seen as a familyfriendly policy.C.However, flextime may not be applicable to all fields.D.It is a period of the day in which everyone is expected to be at work.E.Many employers all over the world offer this method to their employees.F.For example, home offices are increasingly popular among many companies.G.It allows them to make changes to their work schedule which will suit their lives.16. 故选A。19. .完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)Everybody has bad days at work. Youall should be ashamed of yourselves for doing that.”The postscript (后记) to that __33__: She may have had __34__ expectations about how auditions work, but it didn't cause anyone to be bored __35__ Nash got the job.One consistent theme that always __36__ at My Worst Moment: Acting on stage can occasionally be filled with __37__.
