    Haiti Earthquake
    A great earthquake hit Haiti n 12 January 2010.Its center was lcated just suthwest f Prt­Au­Prince, the capital and largest city f Haiti.It is the strngest earthquake t hit the cuntry since 1770.It led t 100,000 t 316,000 deaths and left 2 millin peple hmeless and 3 millin peple in need f immediate help.At least $195 millin have been given by different cuntries, alng with a large number f rescue wrkers t supprt (支援) rescue effrts.
    Kashmir Earthquake
    The Kashmir earthquake happened n the mrning f 8 Octber 2005.It was centered near the city f Muzaffarabad.The fficial number f deaths was 75,000 and there were 106,000 peple wh were injured.As Saturday is a nrmal schl day in the area, mst students were at schls when the earthquake happened.Many yung peple were buried under destryed schl buildings.Many peple were als trapped in their hmes.Reprts said that entire twns and villages were cmpletely wiped ut in nrthern Pakistan.The serius damage was mainly because f pr buildings.
    Indian Ocean Earthquake
    Knwn as the Sumatra­Andaman earthquake, Indian Ocean Earthquake happened n 26 December 2004.While the earthquake itself lasted fr nly 10 secnds, it caused a tsunami (海啸).The tsunami killed abut 200,000 t 310,000 peple alng the shres (海滨) f Indnesia, Sri Lanka, Suth India and Thailand.There was ne death even happening at Prt Elizabeth in Suth Africa, 8,000 miles away frm the center.

    At first, Patricia didn't d anything. “Surely there was smene mre experienced than me t help this child,” she thught. She lked arund and saw that n ne was cming t the rescue. It had t be her.
    Patricia threw dwn her bk and ran t the child. She pushed the man aside and calmly said, “I'm a nurse.” At the mment, she felt that the wrds were true. She began administering CPR (实施心肺复苏术). After a few minutes f this, the by cughed and spat (吐) up the water. As the by sat up, his parents were finally here and Patricia left quietly, happy t allw the by t be with his family again.
    After that shcking event, Patricia finally understd that nursing was certainly what she wanted t d.

    The strm brke earlier in the week in the Bay f Bengal, the first “super cyclne” t break there since 1999. Thugh the strm wasn't as strng as it had been when it landed, Cyclne Amphan still arrived with a frce the same as a Categry 3 strm (3级风暴).
    With wind speed f 105 miles an hur, Amphan went thrugh villages alng the cast. Mst peple n the cast live in very simple huses. The cyclne destryed many f these huses, blwing the rfs (屋顶) ff and washing the walls away. Amphan als blew dwn trees and damaged electricity, telephne and Internet lines in many places alng its path. The cyclne als caused huge and sudden rises in the sea level, knwn as “strm surges”. These surges were as high as 16 feet and pushed seawater in, ruining huses and farms alng the way.
    Althugh the cyclne had terrible pwer, it might nt have been as deadly as peple first feared. That's mainly because gvernments tk actin befre the cyclne hit.
    The gvernments in bth India and Bangladesh were using schls as shelters. Several f the shelters were used befre fr patients with COVID­19. Mre shelters were needed than usual, because the gvernments were trying t fill the shelters nly half full t allw enugh space between peple.
    Because f the disease, many peple didn't want t depart frm their hmes.This was especially true in India.Part f the reasn was fear f catching the disease, but it was als because many peple had lst s much during the cuntry's lckdwn (封锁).
