1)Cucumbers
Cucumbers are grwn fr eating fresh r preserving as pickles.They must be grwn in warm temperatures and full sunlight,and will nt stand frst.Cucumbers mature quickly and are best suited t large gardens but can be grwn in small areas if caged r trellised.
Cucumbers d best in lse,sandy lam sil but can be grwn in any well drained sil.Remve rcks,large sticks and trash befre preparing the sil.Leave fine pieces f plant material such as dead grass and small weeds.They will help enrich the sil when turned under.Spade the sil t a depth f 8 t 12 inches.This is abut the depth reached by mst shvels r spading frks.Turn each shvel f sil cmpletely ver s all plant materials are cvered with sil.
2)Tmates
Tmates are warm seasn plants requiring at least six hurs per day.Temperatures are very imprtant.Mst varieties f tmates will nt set fruit unless the average nighttime temperature stays abve 55 degrees.If nighttime temperatures are expected t drp belw 55 degrees,prtect the plants using a plyethylene film.
One f the mst cmmn prblems with tmates is called blssm end rt which appears as a gray r dark leathery scar r rt n the blssm end f the fruit.It is usually caused by sudden r incnsistent misture levels in the sil.It can als be caused by a lack f calcium in the sil.Anther cmmn prblem f tmates is blssm drp.This can ccur if nighttime temperatures drp belw 55 degrees and plants are nt prtected.Germinatin and tube grwth are s slw that the blssms drp ff befre they can be fertilized.
3)Peas
Peas are a frst-hardy,cl-seasn vegetable that can be grwn thrughut mst f the United States,wherever a cl seasn f sufficient duratin exists.Fr gardening purpses,peas may be classified as garden peas (English peas),snap peas and snw peas (sugar peas).Garden pea varieties have smth r wrinkled seeds.The smth-seeded varieties tend t have mre starch than the wrinkled-seeded varieties.The wrinkled-seeded varieties are generally sweeter and usually preferred fr hme use.The smth-seeded types are used mre ften t prduce ripe seeds that are used like dry beans and t make split-pea sup.Snap peas have been develped frm garden peas t have lw-fiber pds that can be snapped and eaten alng with the immature peas inside.Snw peas are meant t be harvested as flat,tender pds befre the peas inside develp at all.The Suthern pea (cwpea) is an entirely different warm-seasn vegetable that is planted and grwn in the same manner as beans.

China is a cuntry whse ppulatin ranks the first in the wrld.In rder t feed the whle ppulatin,Chinese farmers must prduce enugh fd.On the ther hand,they shuld prduce mre and better prducts which can be exprted t imprve their living standard.But China nly has 7% f the land which can be used fr farming.Therefre,farmers in China have always been lking fr better methds and techniques t prduce mre fd.They have als had t find ways t wrk n mre land with fewer hands.In the past 20 years,great achievements have been made in China and China’s farming.With the help f new techniques and the utstanding wrk f scientists,China has nt nly slved the prblem f hunger but als taken a lead in agricultural research,especially in super hybrid rice,crp genme,fertilizer and s n,causing prducts t multiply.
It is a kind f agriculture althugh there are differences between land agriculture and water agriculture.Fish farming invlves human help and prduces fish prtein crps rather than vegetable r meat prtein crps.It has been used fr 2000 years in China,Egypt and Rme.Fish can either be kept in earthen pnds r in cages with flwing water passing ver the fish.If fish are kept in earthen pnds they can be fed either with extra natural fd r with specially prduced fish fd.If fish are kept in cages they have t be fed n the specially prduced fish fd.When the fish are ready t be harvested and sld fr eating,the earthen pnds can be emptied (if all the fish are t be harvested) r the water reduced (if sme f the fish are t remain).In the cages all the fish wuld be harvested tgether.There is the prblem f disease with fish kept in cages.They are generally t clse tgether s they get lice.These parasites can be killed by giving medicine t the fish.But as time ges by,the medicine is nt able t kill all the lice.S if sme f the lice get nt the wild fish they kill many f them as wild fish have n medicine t prtect them.S fish farming can cause prblems fr wild ppulatins f fish.
6.Mdern Agriculture
Fr thusands f years traditinal agriculture in China did nt change very much.Mst farms were ne-family businesses.Althugh China is a very big cuntry,nly 7% f the land can be used fr farming.It is n this arable land that the farmers prduce fd fr the whle ppulatin f China.
It is frm the early 1990s that scientists started t develp new techniques t increase agricultural prductin withut harming the envirnment.Chemical fertilizatin,fr example,helps t prduce better crps,but is harmful t the envirnment.New techniques shuld increase agricultural prductin but als be friendly t envirnment.Future agriculture shuld depend n high technlgy as well as traditinal methds.Nt nly fd prductin is imprtant but als taking care f the envirnment.
The biggest prblem f Chinese farmers is the shrtage f arable land.Using the latest technlgies,Chinese scientists grw vegetables in greenhuses.The rts f these vegetables are nt planted in earth but hang in water that cntains all the nutrients they need t grw.Tday,many vegetables are nt grwn in gardens but in greenhuses.They are prtected frm the wind,rain and insects.The temperature is cntrlled with cmputers,r kept the same,n matter hw the weather is utside.
