The emphasis f this perid will be placed n listening and speaking.There are altgether three texts fr the students t listen t in this perid：ne is in the Student's Bk and the ther tw are in the Wrkbk.The first ne(n Page 7，Listening and speaking)is a cnversatin amng three friends，Ga Yan，Jhn and Susan，wh are n hliday in New Yrk.They are talking abut the art galleries they wuld like t visit.While listening t the dialgue fr the first time the students are asked t get sme specific infrmatin abut it and answer seven wh－questins.After listening t the secnd part f the dialgue fr the secnd time the students are asked t talk abut the characters f Ga Yan，Jhn and Susan.Then the students are asked t tell what attitude each f the three friends has t mdern art.At last the students are asked t give their wn pints f view and attitudes twards the galleries in New Yrk in a certain situatin t shw their wn preference，using the expressins abut preference given in the bx n Page 7.
The secnd ne(n Page 41，Listening)is a cnversatin amng three classmates，Steve Lee，Wang Pei and Xia Wei.They are talking abut what kind f present they wuld like t get fr Mr Hang，their art teacher，befre he leaves the schl.And the third ne(n Page 44，Listening Task)is a talk frm Zhang Lin.He is talking abut six Chinese artwrks.
