    The General Idea of This Period

    This period includes Warming upReading and Comprehending of Unit 1.It introduces the story of the Amber Roomwhich can help the students learn how to talk about cultural relics and realize that we should protect cultural relics and what should be done with the cultural relics.The students also can learn how to talk about cultural relics and learn some reading strategies such as skimming and scanning.

    The warming-up exercise helps the students realize that there are some well-known cultural relics both at home and abroad.Ask the students to try their best to think of the cultural relics that they know.

    TDo you know what cultural relics are?

    SsCultural relics are something that has survived for a long timeoften a part of something old that has remained when the rest of it has been destroyedit tells people about the past.

    TVery goodalso we can sayCultural relics are traces or features surviving from a past age and serving to remind people of them.Just like what you saidthey represent the culture of a place and some periods of history.Of coursesome of them are in danger because they are being destroyed.Then can you give some examples of the cultural relics that are in the need of being protected?

    4.What happened to the Amber Room?The great Amber Room was given to the Russian people as a great gift by the king.Because it was made of almost seven thousand tons of amberwhich has a beautiful yellow brown color.

    S3She had the Amber Room moved to the palace outside St Petersburg and transformed it.

    S4It was taken apart and missing in the second world warand the Russians and Germans have built a new Amber room at the summer palace.

    S3This paragraph tells us that Catherine had the Amber Room moved to the palace outside St Petersburg where she spent her summers and she told her artists to add more details to its design.Thus the Amber Room was one of the great wonders of the world.

    S4From this paragraphwe know that the Nazi German army stole the Amber Room in September1941.After thatwhat really happened to the Amber Room remains a mystery.
