Perhaps yu've had t put up with a mdy, uncperative teenager, r yu may well have been ne yurself.A new study suggests that dgs g thrugh a similar stage f stubbrnness and disbedience (不顺从) when they hit adlescence at abut eight mnths ld.
Lking at the behaviur f a ttal f 378 canines (犬), researchers fund that the animals were mre bedient and mre respnsive either side f that eightmnth mark — but nly when it came t their wners, nt t less familiar trainers.
S nt nly d dgs appear t have a difficult adlescence just like we d, they als share the frustratin that we ften feel twards ur parents r caregivers when we hit ur teenage years. That has big implicatins fr lngterm canine care and sheltering.
“This is a very imprtant time in a dg's life,” says animal behaviur researcher Lucy Asher, frm Newcastle University in the UK.“This is when dgs are ften rehmed because they are n lnger a cute little puppy and suddenly, their wners find they are mre challenging and they can n lnger cntrl them r train them.” “But as with human teenage children, wners need t be aware that their dg is ging thrugh a special stage and it will pass.”
In ne experiment with 93 Labradr retrievers (狗), glden retrievers and their crss breeds (杂交品种), the dgs at eight mnths ld were fund t take lnger and be lather t respnd t a “sit” cmmand given by their caregiver than they were when just five mnths ld.The eightmnthlds didn't shw the same stubbrnness when the cmmand was given by a stranger, thugh.
The researchers fund further evidence f this effect in survey data gathered n 285 Labradrs, glden retrievers, German shepherds and their crss breeds.Dg wners and trainers less familiar with the dgs were asked t evaluate the animals “trainability” by answering questins n bedience and hw quickly cmmands were respnded t.
