If you live in Boston, America, you’ve probably used a high-tech
trash can.
The trash can is called BigBelly Solar. It can hold four to five times the amount of litter of a traditional trash can, and it is completely enclosed keeping pests out, odors (臭气) and litter in.
Do you know how it can “eat” so much trash? It has a secret weapon: a built-in trash compactor (压缩器).
Apart from the compactor, the trash can also has sensors (传感器). They are all powered by a large solar panel. When the trash reaches the high level of the sensors, the compactor starts. Those sensors also track the can’s level of fullness. If the trash can fills up, they will send e-mails to cleaners to empty it.
BigBelly saves energy by reducing the need for pickups from 17 times a week to only five, saving labor and trash bag costs by 80%. No pests, fewer bees and bugs get into the can, and of course, less odor gets out of it.
“Trash cans are something that are so common,” said the creator. “People don’t always think trash cans also have carbon footprint. We think rethinking that is great.”
A full charged bin can be powered for three days without sunlight. The BigBelly has already proven its worth in urban streets, parks, colleges … and in all weather conditions.
How magical the trash can is!

Do you like having lunch at school? School dinners are a hot topic in the UK these days. A typical school dinner costs about 2 pounds a day for a pupil in the UK. There is usually a main course, a dessert and a drink. Parents often pay in advance online. School dinners must include food groups such as fruit and vegetables, protein (for example meat, fish or cheese) and carbohydrate (for example rice). There are rules about how the food is prepared, for example there are limits (限制) on the quantity of fried food.
Martha Payne, from Scotland, started a blog Neverseconds about her school dinners when she was just nine years old. She posts photographs of her lunch every day and gives the food a grade out of ten. The grade depends on the quality and quantity of the food and how healthy it is. She doesn’t always give good grades. Her complaints include too much fried food and small quantities in the food. Many people read her blog and young people from all over the world post pictures of their school meals on Neverseconds.
Jamie Oliver, a British cook, isn’t satisfied with school dinners. He thinks that they need to be healthier and tastier. Jamie helps to improve Martha’s blog and Neverseconds becomes very popular and spread quickly on social media websites. On the blog, Martha also raises money for charity. Hot Water Beach is a long amazing white beach. It is as good as its name. An underground river of hot water flows from inside the earth into the Pacific Ocean at Hot Water Beach. Hot pools can be dug out of the sand at low tide (潮汐) near the rocks. There are also places where steam (水蒸汽) can be seen rising from the sea at high tide.
It’s a great place for families, both in summer and winter. Visitors go to Hot Water Beach to find hot water bubbling (冒泡) through the golden sand. Families, young children and couples can be seen digging their own pool in the sand. And then they lie back in the water and relax while the steam from their hot pool envelops them. With the flow of the tide, the hot pools they created are washed away. Then the next group of visitors will arrive to dig their hot pools.
However, swimming in the sea at Hot Water Beach can be dangerous. You should only swim between the signs. Otherwise, you are advised not to try to swim in the sea unless you are a good swimmer.

Why?When people don't get enough sleep, they will become tired. When they are tired, they wouldn't exercise enough. Also, kids like snacks. If they are awake one more hour or two each day, they will have more time to eat snacks or other unhealthy food.Teenagers should not be allowed to eat too much junk food.Scientists suggest 10 or 11 hours a night for kids aged 5 to 12.For older kids, eight to nine hours will be enough.
