    Boiling water

    Salt is a great weed-killer and can be added to vinegar or hot water sprays, but when it goes into the earth nothing can grow. Add a little dish soap to help the salt stick to the leaves and be careful where you aim. Spraying the soil will damage it, while hitting other plants you like may kill them too.

    Like most parents, I’m terrified at how quickly time goes, so I feel a constant pressure to save every moment for my children. I want to keep it so I try to record it on film and relive the moments whenever I look back on it. I want to remember as much of my kids’ childhood as possible. But I found that, actually, the more I document the less I remember. And to do this, I think I need to put the camera down.

    It's hard to describe how it feels when a photo stirs (搅动,唤起)a memory. For instance, when I look at the pictures of my son on the day he was born----I am there in the hospital, I remember the mixture of incredible emotions, the way he felt, and I even remember the smell. But I have taken thousands of photos of him since then and they don’t have nearly this much impact. Just last month my son was running outdoors around a giant decorative polar bear, laughing, when my mother-in-law took out her phone to take a picture, and immediately I saw some changes in him. He slowed down a bit. His smile lasted too long. At four years old, my little boy already knows that when that black box is in his face, the expectation is on him to perform.

    Of course, taking photos has its uses and I don’t plan to stop now. But my aim is to take a less-is-more approach.

    He is a 62-year-old superior court judge, but they are former addicts and criminals. All of them, however, are part of one team the Skid Row Running Club in Los Angeles L. A..

    Twice a week, before the sun comes up, Judge Craig Mitchell runs the mile from his office at the county courthouse to The Midnight Mission, a social services organization centered in Downtown's Skid Row - the well-known area where the city's largest homeless population lives.

    At the organization, he meets a group of 30 to 40 people and together they run through East L. A. The group includes runners from all walks of life and all levels of athleticism. Some members are homeless or in recovery, and others are lawyers, social workers or students.

    Mitchell developed the program in 2012 after a man he'd once sentenced to prison returned to thank him. “He was paroled(假释)to The Midnight Mission and decided to come back and said 'Thank you, Judge Mitchell, for treating me like a human being. ' The president of the organization at the time asked me if there was something that I could do to contribute to the organization, and I thought of starting a running club.     True, people remember what you wear. After a social event, we all remember the woman in red, or the man with the top hat. On the red carpet, Hollywood hopefuls take advantage of this reality by wearing outfits designed to be discussed and displayed on the front pages of newspapers. Koehler, in a piece entitled “In the Eye of the Beholder” (2017), found that when asked to recall their best learning experience, many students discussed a memorable teacher. What made the teachers memorable? According to the students, memorable qualities included not only teaching styles, but also interpersonal skills and positive qualities such as a sense of humor.

    We can relate to the results of this study when recalling people who are memorable in our own lives. They are not always people who we believed to be the smartest or most believed, but often those who made us feel the most comfortable, and who were most interested in us. Sincere interest is uniquely attractive. Not only will you remember what someone said, but they will also remember you, fondly.

    Regardless of what we wear or how we look, we are always naturally more appealing and approachable when we focus on others and when we are genuine rather than simply sociable. Remember that, and others will remember you.
