The veggie burger(素食汉堡): this simple non-meat burger is a main meal for a vegetarian. So what is a veggie burger? A veggie burger is similar to an ordinary hamburger, except that it is meat -free, commonly made from ingredients such as beans, tofu, nuts, grains and mushrooms. In many cases, the differences between the meat hamburger and veggie burger are clear, but Impossible Foods Company plans to put an end to that. The Impossible burger is made of a plant-based product that looks like blood. It clearly looks, smells and even bleeds like meat, but it's grown in a lab. The Impossible says this burger is hard to tell from real meat, about 47% similar, according to a test conducted among meat lovers.

The plant-based burger receives increasing attention from the public. Marketing is one good reason: plant-based meat products attract meat-lovers and vegetarians alike due to their health benefits. If you can have the food you love at a lower health cost, why wouldn’t you?

Another reason why many people resist meat product is that they may seek to reduce animal suffering or the meat industry's large environmental impact. Meat production is responsible for 18% of total greenhouse gases, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). However, they may still miss the taste of meat.

Finally, there are associated feelings and memories that go with certain foods," says Thomas Banks, BBC Learning English producer and 15- -year vegetarian. “I didn't grow up a vegetarian and sometimes I miss my family’s cooking. Plant-based meat allows me to have a good home-cooked meal that' s just like mum used to make."

It is reported that the global meat substitute market was valued at $4,512.1 million in 2019, and is predicted to reach $8,823.6 million by 2027, showing an annual growth rate of 7.2% from 2021 to 2027. According to recent studies, 30% of Americans are not only leaving meat off their plates but also seeking out more plant-based meat substitutes.

    24. W hat does Impossible Foods Company intend to do?

    A. To make veggie burger look like meat hamburger.

    B. To distract people’s interest in meat hamburger.

    C. To expand the numbers of veggie burger lovers.

    D. To persuade more people to have less meat hamburger.

    25. Why do many people become vegetarians?

    A. They don't favor the taste of meat.

    B. They want to do some good to animal welfare.

    C. They oppose the environmental sustainability.

    D. They want to meet the need of their financial benefits.

    26. What can we know from the text?

    A. FAO is the pioneer for the meatless industry.

    B. The plant-based meat can be grown in every household garden.

    C. Livestock production is responsible for 80% of total greenhouse gases.

    D. Vegetarians can get meat-like food experiences from the plant-based meat.

    C. By presenting statistics.

While some Chinese specialists suggest abolishing traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), foreign pharmaceutical(制药的) institutions and industries are pursuing them. Of the global herbal (药草的) medicine sales volume, the Chinese mainland accounts for only 2 percent and Japan has the lion’s share of the market, far ahead of other countries. More than 100 countries and regions around the world have set up TCM institutions, with the United States, Europe, Japan and South Korea spending millions of dollars in research and developing medicine. The UK-based pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline announced its first TCM medicine research and development program, which targets not just the Chinese market, but the global one as well.

“TCM is a well-built medical science based on thousands of years of clinical practices. It shows great promise treating complicated conditions that the single- -target Western medicine has failed to handle," says Zang Jingwu, senior vice-president and head of GlaxoSmithKline's R&D in China. “Our focus is to transform TCM from an experience- -based practice to evidence-based medicines through innovation," he says.

Currently, a 10-person team in Shanghai is in charge of the program. However, TCM is different from Western medicine, so great innovation is required to combine the two sciences. In fact, many in Western medicine circles have recognized the importance of TCM, but the problem is how to prove and develop that. TCM is developed through practical experience and improvement of herbs but many people in the West don’t trust that. TCM, particularly herbal products, are largely available in the US and Europe, but questions like how to prove their effectiveness in the context of Western medicine and how to best use them remain unanswered.

Zhang Lingping, director of the international cooperation department of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, welcomed the emerging trend.“Their increasing interest shows Western medicine circles have begun to learn about the time- -honored medical science, which originated in China," she says.

    28. Which country holds the biggest volume in the global herbal medicine sales?

    A. The Chinese mainland.

    C. A medication research and development program was set up.

    D. Western medicine is evidence- -based rather than experience-based.

    30. How did Zhang Lingping react to the emerging trend?

    A. She kept her neutral attitude towards it.

    B. She conveyed her recognition about it.

    C. She expressed her worry about it.

    D. She attached no importance to it.

    31. What is the best title for the text?

    A. TCM Is Gaining Global Popularity.

    B. TCM Is Facing an Awkward Situation.

    C. TCM Has More Advantages over Western Medicine.

    D. TCM’s Effectiveness Is Being Testified.

    D

AI, 5G and other digital technologies are not only changing our lives but shaping the economy as well. China's six major commercial banks are stepping up digital wallet efforts to provide new trend for thee- CNY (电子人民币) trials in the country. The purpose, China' s bankers said, is not aimed at taking the place of privately- run payment platforms, such as Alipay and WeChat Pay. Instead, this official electronic payment system is being done so that all cash in circulation(流通) can be followed.

Compared with Alipay and WeChat payments, e- -CNY features anonymity(匿名) and security. E-commerce platforms that accept payments via e -CNY will not have access to users ’personal information. E-CNY users can open an anonymous digital wallet by registering a mobile phone number, and their information won’t be revealed to any third-party institutions. E- -CNY users ’privacy protection is at the highest level among all the existing payment tools.

Similar to Alipay and WeChat payments, using e-CNY requires an account. After getting the other party's account number, users can enter the amount of digital money to be paid and then enter the password to complete the transaction( 交易). However, the processes behind these transactions are different. For electronic payments, the money has to go through a third party, and the receivers will get the money only when they withdraw it from banks. But e-CNY transactions only need a payer and a receiver. Therefore, it guarantees risk-free payments, helps prevent financial crimes and improves the efficiency of transactions.

In simple terms, e- -CNY can be considered“money", while electronic payments are like “wallets". The successful launch of the e-CNY may change the existing market structure, which is mainly dominated by Alipay and WeChat Pay now. The banks may return to a leading position in the digital currency system. But China's central bank won 't get more money into circulation, since every yuan issued digitally will basically cancel one yuan circulating in physical form.

    32. Why are commercial banks in China making efforts on e-CNY trials?

    A. They aim to cut down the use of bank cards.

    B. They want to get rid of paper currency.

    C. They intend to track the cash in circulation.

    D. They plan to replace privately-run payment platforms.

    33. What can users benefit when using e-CNY compared with electronic payments?

    A. People won't worry about their private information exposure.

    B. People can finish the transaction without any password.

    C. People can do the transaction at a very low fee.

    D. People can withdraw money from banks free of charge.

    34. What does the underlined word “dominated” in the last paragraph mean?

    A. designed

    B. accessed

    C. controlled

    D. neglected

    35. What can we infer from the last sentence of the passage?

    A. More e -CNY in circulation will disturb the normal economy.

    B. The e-CNY will shake the position of real paper money.

    C. The e-CNY has a promising future.

    D. The e _CNY has the equal functions as the paper currency.

    第二节(5小题;每小题2,满分10)

    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Trust is important to life. Trust affects how you see the world, how safe you feel and how you approach new people and situations. It affects whether you are willing to go the extra mile for a friend, relative, co- -worker, even someone you’ve never met. If trust levels are high, you will feel relaxed and accepted.   36   Here is a checklist for you to build trust in your personal life.

Learn to determine who deserves your trust. The unfortunate fact is that not everyone can be trusted. It is not a good idea to trust everyone your meet or share personal information about yourself too freely.   37   Check out the person’s story and background if possible. Watch for signs that someone may not be trustworthy, such as avoiding your eye contact or making conflicting statements.

38   You build strong relationships by being a trustworthy listener. W hen someone shares their personal information, don’t share it with others. If a friend or relative tells you something personal about marriage, or co-worker shares something private about a work issue, resist the urge to tell others about these private conversations.

Be honest. Honesty is the basis of any relationship. Be true to your words and keep your promises. Share honest information, even if it's to your disadvantage. Don’t hide things from those you want to build a relationship, and don't lie.   39

Work at building trust when there is a problem. When there are disappointments, the only way to regain lost trust is to work at it. If you feel betrayed or taken advantage of, talk with the person who lets you down.   40   The longer you wait to talk about a problem, the bigger the misunderstanding becomes. Find small ways to trust the person again. When you see small commitments being met over time, it's easier to believe that the larger ones will be met, too. Be realistic and know that it can take a long way to rebuild trust.

    A. Keep tight-lipped.

    B. Don't hesitate to do it.

    C. Don't blame for what he has done.

    D. Remember not to cover up a mistake.

    E. Use your own judgment to recognize whom to trust.

    F. Trust levels for relationship stay very very low.

    G. If they are low, you are likely to feel uncomfortable and defensive.
