此句的时态为一般过去时，是本单元的主要语法点。 （1）一般过去时定义：表示过去某个时间发生的动作或存在的状态，常和表示过去的时间状语连用。一般过去时也表示过去经常或反复发生的动作。 常见表示过去时间的单词和短语有： last night/week/mnth/year昨天晚上/上周/上个月/去年 three days/a week/tw mnths/fur years ag 三天前/一周前/两个月前/四年前，yesterday昨天等等。
（2）be动词在一般过去时中的变化：am和is在一般过去时中变为was；are在一般过去时中变为were。带有was或were的句子，其否定、疑问的变化和is, am, are一样，即否定句在was或were后加nt，一般疑问句把was或were调到句首。
例：It’s Daming’s birthday. It was Daming’s birthday yesterday. They are funny! They were funny! They are nt funny! They were nt funny.
（3）句中没有be动词的一般过去时的句子，通常借助助动词d。 否定句：didn’t+动词原形。 一般疑问句：在句首加did，句中的动词过去式变回原形。 特殊疑问句：疑问词+did+主语+动词原形。
例：They decided t make a bat. They didn’t decide t make a bat. Did they decide t make a bat? What did they decide t d?
