Teaching aims and demands:
- Develop the ability to infer the general meaning from the title and the context.
- Pay attention to the time order of the actions during the reading procedures.
- Encourage the students to be brave and optimistic,imaginative and creative.
- Revise and expand vocabulary in the story and conversation.
Teaching content:
- Words: rabbit ,fall, hole ,locked,ect.
- Phrases: look up pass by run across go through
- Sentences: She looked up and saw a white rabbit in a coat passing
by.
She found herself alone in a long low hall.
Teaching keys:
- Develop the ability to infer the general meaning from the title and context.
- Reinforce students’ ability to skim the text for overall meaning and scan for details.

Teaching procedure:
Step1. Lead--in
- Show some pictures about Disney cartoon and watch a video.Ask students:
What’s the video about?
It’s about the film Alice in Wonderland.
Step2.Pre-reading
- Play the tape and let students try to find the answers to the following questions.
(1) When did they jump down the hole?
One sunny day.
(2) Who jumped down the hole?
Alice and the rabbit.
(3) Where did the story happen?
By the river and in the rabbit hole.
(4) What happened to Alice at the end of the story?
Alice couldn’t go through the door because she was too big.
- After checking the answers to the four questions.The teacher leads the students to scan the passage by some pictures.
- Through the scanning, learn some new words. Then ask students to read after the teacher.
- Give some exercises to consolidate the new words and phrases.
Step3. While--reading
- Read the para.1 and complete the blanks.
Time: one sunny day
Place: by the river
Characters: Alice & a rabbit
- Read the para.2--para.3.(Outside the hole)
(1)What did the rabbit say?
The rabbit said, “Oh dear! I’ll be late!”
(2)Where did the rabbit go?
It jumped down a big hole.
(3)Why did Alice jump down the hole?
Because she didn’t want to let the rabbit get away.
- Read the para4--para5.(Inside the hole).
There were doors all around, |
but | they were all locked.

Alice saw a small key on a table, | it did not fit any of the doors.

Alice saw a lovely garden on the other side, and tried to go through the door, | she was too big. |
Step4.Post--reading
Ask students to read the passage together,then finish the following exercise.

(5)It took Alice a long time to hit the ground in the hole.
