Thugh writing by hand is increasingly being vershadwed by the ease f cmputers, a new study finds handwriting helps peple learn certain skills surprisingly faster and significantly better than learning the same material thrugh typing r watching vides.
Brenda Rapp, a prfessr f cgnitive science in Jhns Hpkins University, led an experiment, in which 42 peple were taught the Arabic alphabet, split int three grups f learners: writers, typers and vide watchers. Everyne learned the letters ne at a time by watching vides f them being written alng with hearing names and sunds. After being intrduced t each letter, the three grups wuld attempt t learn what they just saw and heard in different ways. The vide grup gt an n-screen flash f a letter and had t recgnize it. The typers wuld have t find the letter n the keybard. The writers had t cpy the letter with pen and paper. After as many as six sessins, the writing grup reached this level f prficiency (熟练) faster than the ther grups.
Next the researchers wanted t determine t what extent the grups culd generalize this new knwledge. In ther wrds, they culd all recgnize the letters, but culd anyne really use them like a prfessinal by writing with them, using them t spell new wrds and using them t read unfamiliar wrds? The writing grup was best — decisively — in all f thse things.
Rapp says it’s because handwriting reinfrces the visual and aural lessns. The simple act f writing by hand prvides a perceptual-mtr (感知运动) experience that unifies what is being learned abut the letters (their shapes, their sunds, and their mtr plans), which in turn creates richer knwledge and fuller true-learning.
Althugh the participants in the study were adults, the researchers expect they’d see the same results in children. The findings have implicatins fr classrms, where pencils and ntebks have taken a backseat in recent years t tablets and laptps.
    28. In this study, what is the advantage f writing by hand?
    A. It cntributes t a faster and better learning.
    B. It can’t be replaced by cmputers and Internet.
    C. It cmbines visual and aural images int study.
    D. It never makes any mistake in the six sessins.
    29. Hw were the peple divided int grups in the experiment?
    A. On the basis f their interest in letters.
    B. Accrding t their way f learning letters.
    C. Cnsidering the time spent in learning letters.
    D. By their levels f prficiency in letters.
    30. What effect d the researchers expect the study have n students?
    A. Uncertain. B. Negative. C. Beneficial. D. Challenging.
    31. What’s the purpse f the text?
    A. T advertise a methd. B. T clarify a cncept.
    C. T intrduce a research. D. T explain a phenmenn.
    D

    B. T give an example f a successful space missin.
    C. T demnstrate the failure f the Apll missins.
    D. T criticize the incmpetence f the Apll astrnauts.
    35. Which f the fllwing best describes NASA’s spacesuit fr the next lunar missin?
    A. High-tech but impractical. B. Prtable and mbile.
    C. Cstly but well-received. D. Flexible and prtective.
