question | Tony | I’m in trouble. Last week, we had a football match, and we lost. We all played well, except one teammate. Disappointed by his behaviour, I said this to my best friend. But he told everyone else what I said. I’m really angry with my friend. What should I say to him? And should I say anything to my teammate?
reply | Betty | There is an old American saying, “Loose lips sink ships.” This means that if you speak too much about something, it’ll cause all kinds of trouble. Maybe now you’re in this situation. Forget all these unhappy things.
reply | Lingling | Perhaps most importantly, think about your own behaviour. When filled with anger, you would say whatever comes to your mind. You might hurt others. Take a deep breath, calm down, and always remember: think first, speak later.
Ms Li | Here’s what you need to do. First, apologize to your teammate. Have a chat with him, and tell him directly and honestly that you were talking without thinking. Then tell your friend you’re angry with him for repeating what you said and making the situation worse, but you hope your friendship will move on. |
1.Tony posted his problems on the forum in order to ________.A.discuss the match B.show football skills
C.get help from others D.catch his teammate’s attention

When you enjoy a meal with your friends, how do you pay the bill? Does one person pay for everything? Or do you prefer to split the bill evenly instead? With mobile payments, many young people prefer the latter.
Surprisingly, this can cause problems sometimes. Let’s say the bill for your lunch is 63 yuan. You and your two friends—Li Lin and Wang Feng decide to pay it evenly three ways—this means each person should pay 21 yuan.
Li Lin says he’ll pay the full bill first. You and Wang Feng can give him what you owe (欠). It’s easy to pay the bill this way. You send your friend a WeChat red packet with the exact amount. But Wang Feng just gives him 20 yuan because he doesn’t have enough money in his account. Li Lin might say there is no need to give him the rest.
Li Lin probably thinks more highly of you than Wang Feng. Why is this?
It’s because you agreed to split the bill evenly. Everyone should pay the same amount. Your friend who didn’t pay enough didn’t stick to your agreement. This might make his credit (信用) drop, if only just a little bit.
Actually, it is not money, but credit and face that matter sometimes.
4.What does the phrase “split the bill evenly” in paragraph 1 mean in Chinese?
A.全额支付 B.分期付款 C.信用消费 D.平均分摊
5.How much did Li Lin actually get from the others?
A.63 yuan. B.42 yuan. C.41yuan. D.21yuan.
6.What was Wang Feng’s fault?
A.He wanted to save some money.
B.He didn’t follow the agreement.
C.He knew his friends wouldn’t care if he paid less.
D.He didn’t have a good reason for not paying the right amount.
7.What does the story teach us?
A.Credit is important. B.Face comes last.
C.Money is a small matter in most cases. D.Mobile payments are useful.
I have just finished reading a new novel, Edie and the Box of Flits, written by Kate Wilkinson. The book tells about 11-year-old Edie Winter and a magic box she discovered.
Edie likes to go to the London Underground Lost and Found Office where her father works. Recently items (物品) that have been returned went missing from the office. It means that Edie’s father is no longer seen as reliable. One day, on a journey to the office, Edie is amazed to find a box, a box that’s home to a family of tiny winged beings (有翅膀的生物) — the Flits. It’s only people under 13 that can see these magical little creatures (生物). What’s surprising is that three little guys Impy, Speckle and Nid in it need Edie’s help. They need not only food supplies and someone to look after them, but also the girl to find their brother Jot, because he has run away. So Edie begins an adventure, which takes her into a thumb-sized world deep in the tunnels (隧道) under London. The girl is certain that she could help.
My favorite part of the book is when the Flits appear. I have a series of interesting questions to solve. Where did the Flits live before? Who has discovered the Flits’ home? Where are the missing Flits hidden and why don’t they escape? After all, these little creatures can fly! As I continued reading, I was completely attracted by the development of the story.
Edie and the Box of Flits is a great book. It’s more than a magic novel. It helps make us think more about friendship and family, and notice the little things in life. I bet that this book will certainly be loved by people all over the world.
8.What does the underlined word “reliable” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Brave. B.Strict. C.Trusty. D.Hard-working.
9.Which statement is true about the flits?
A.The three little guys only need food supplies. B.People above 13 can’t see them.
C.Edie found Jot in the tunnels. D.Edie hurt their wings.
10.What’s the main idea of paragraph 3?
A.The introduction of the flits. B.The writer’s doubts while reading.
C.The development of the story. D.The most interesting part of the story.
11.What’s the best title of the passage?
A.My book review. B.An amazing adventure.
C.Wlikinson’s new novel. D.My favorite novel.

With the second outbreak of the epidemic, we study at home again. During this time, many things have happened. Now let me tell you a moving story.
Many ordinary people are regarded as heroes in fighting coronavirus. Among them, the security guard in my community is the hero in my heart. On a cold winter day, there was a heavy snow and because of the COVID, we couldn’t go to the supermarket to buy something we need. But he still kept working on his post without complaint and gave away the vegetables and food from one building to another in spite of the cold weather. He risked his own life for our safety and made contributions to keeping the virus from spreading.
His spirit of dedication has influenced me a lot. It is his strong sense of responsibility that moved me. His efforts always remind me to treasure the peaceful life that we are living now. When I grow up, I will spare no effort to help people around me.
