Going on a holiday can cost a fortune with three kids in the family. Flights for five people, even domestic (国内的) ones, are really expensive and often you have to book hotel rooms to fit your entire family, which is yet another costly exercise.
And while camping is cheap, it’s only fun when it’s not raining or too hot. Also fitting the kids and all the camping equipment into the car is pretty troublesome.
But we love to explore and holidays are really important to our family so we saved up and bought a caravan (拖车). We named her Audrey. She is a little rough around the edges, but what she lacks in looks, she definitely makes up for in character. We hope she would give us the freedom to travel more without the crazy costs.

An Indian man recently shocked the airport staff in Abu Dhabi, because his passport showed he was born in 1896, which would make him 123, the oldest man to have ever lived.
Swami Sivananda’s passport shows him to be a year older than France’s Jeanne Louise Calment, who holds the Guinness World Record for the oldest person in history —122— but the problem is that the only evidence he has comes from an old temple register. Furthermore, he looks decades younger than his alleged age and has good health. He’s been trying to have his name included in the Guinness Book of Records for three years, but he has been having trouble proving his age.
Allegedly born on August 8, 1896, in Behala, then a village, Sivananda says he lost both his parents when he was only four, and his sister, who used to beg for food with him, two years later. His relatives handed him over to a guru (宗教教师), who brought him to the city of Nadadwip. Later, he settled in Varanasi. Sadly, there was no formal record of his age in these places and Swami Sivananda can only rely on a temple register to prove that he really is 123 years old.
“I lead a simple and regular life. I eat very simply — boiled food without oil, rice and boiled soup. I avoid taking milk or meat because I think these are fancy. Every year, over 17 trillion pounds of plastic are washed into the oceans, making five huge areas in the world’s oceans “soups” of floating trash. One of these areas, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, is three times as large as France.
Over a year ago, a group called Ocean Cleanup began using a huge floating screen (隔板) to try to clean up plastic pollution in the ocean. After several failures, the group is now collecting plastic. But the plastic is spread out over a large area, so it’s impossible to collect it piece by piece. Ocean Cleanup’s plan is to gather up the floating plastic, making it easier to remove.
Boyan Slat, a member of Ocean Cleanup, got the idea for the Ocean Cleanup system: a 2,000-foot-long floating U-shaped tube with a screen hanging below it. As the tube and screen are pushed by the water and the wind, the U tube is meant to collect plastic trash, making it easy for a ship to collect and remove the plastic. The system uses the power of the wind and ocean, so it doesn’t need fuel.
The group began testing the first version, called “System 001”, in September, 2018. But it soon became clear that the screen was just moving with the plastic, not collecting it. But Mr. Slat saw the project as an experiment, which meant a failure is a chance to learn. The team collected and studied lots of information about what worked well and what didn’t. Then they changed the design. In last June, an improved version, called “System 001/B” was born.
The new version has a parachute (降落伞) attached to it. This makes the system move slightly slower than the plastic, allowing plastic to be collected inside, as planned. System 001/B is now collecting plastic of all sizes, from a large fishing net to tiny bits of plastic as small as 1 millimeter.
But this success is still just the beginning of the work for Ocean Cleanup. Now the group want to use what they’ve learned to design a better and larger system that can collect plastic for up to a year before a ship comes to remove it.

Unknown in England till as late as 1662. In 1662 Charles II married Catherine, and it was his new bride who brought a preference for tea with her. She served tea instead of other drinks. Tea soon acquired the position of the royal drink.
However, tea’s acceptance by the British masses was quite slow. It was in the late 1700s that tea began to be popular. One reason which contributed to the popularity of tea was that it was easier to make than coffee. As tea was a high-class drink and it was expensive, the British masses bought second-hand tea leaves. Tea was thus gradually finding a place in British people’s everyday life.
Soon tea began to be sold in London coffee houses. Tea was heavily advertised as a medicinal drink that helped maintain health and beauty. The coffee house owners charged heavily for a cup of tea, as much as 6-10 pounds per cup. The government soon put various taxes, regulations and restrictions on the sales of tea, hoping to earn a profit from the growing tea trend.
