阅读短文,并按要求后完成文后各小题。
When you hear “single-use”, you might think of something like chopsticks from fast food restaurants. You use them once, throw them away and forget about them. But when we forget about them, we also forget that we’re creating waste.
“Single-use” was chosen as Collins Dictionary’s “Word of the Year” for 2018. The idea of single-use is not just about real objects that we can touch or see. It also includes the ways that we communicate.
On social media (社交媒体), we see pictures, news and articles everywhere. We look, laugh and keep scrolling (滚屏). We never look twice. This is called single-use media. It’s all about sharing the small things of our lives. For example, I know what restaurant all of my friends went to last night. However, I don’t know their deepest thoughts and feelings about serious problems. I don’t even know what their dinner tasted like. I look at their pictures and give them a “Like”. Then I “throw it away” and keep scrolling.
Social media nowadays makes it very easy for us to forget what we have lost. Before we use social media and send messages on the phone, we communicated by talking. We had to remember or write down important things. Many people also communicated by writing letters, which took time and energy. They had to think carefully about each sentence. People treasured (珍惜) and kept letters for years. A letter was serious. It’s a shared piece of the writer’s spirit.
On social media, we treat our friends and family like cheap chopsticks. It’s simple and efficient (有效率的) in use, but we don’t spend time sharing little pieces of our thoughts and feelings any more.
1题和2题完成句子题;3题简略回答问题,4找出并写下第四段的主题句,5题将文中划线句子译成汉语。
21.From the passage we know that single-use is not just about real objects but also includes the ways ________ .
22.We never look twice when we see pictures, ________ on social media.
23.What did many people have to do when they communicated by writing letters?

I remember the first time I suggested screen-free days in our school to some of our student leaders. Jokingly, I said to the group, “What do you think if we go a week without using our laptops or smartphones?”
They laughed, and one of them said, “No way, Mr. White. They would be too much.” I could feel their worry, and told them that I was only considering single screen-free days. Even that idea left them feeling upset.
According to a survey we did, most students in our school spend about six hours a day on screens. Many of my students start their day by checking their smartphones. I often see them looking at their phones when getting off the bus or at parents drop-off they can’t use their own “screens” at school. They usually work on computers at school for at least two hours during the day.
It’s clear that our students spend a lot of time on screens. We do see the benefits(好处)of technology. However, we teachers also want to make sure that students have balanced learning and social experiences away from their screens. That’s why we have come up with the idea of screen-free days.
During the course of the year, we have built in several screen-free days that require us to make different plans for our students about how they will communicate with one another and the world around them without “screens”. For some teachers, this means bringing back a valuable lesson plan that has been put off for some time because it is “out of date”. Others have designed(设计)something completely new.
Fun activities, for example, card games and room escape(密室逃脱)games, are organized at school. In these activities, students socialize(社交)without smartphones and have face-to-face communication without checking on “likes” they’ve got online.
These fun activities also make it possible for the whole grade to enjoy the company of their friends with no smartphones.
After our first screen-free day, students mentioned that they were surprised they enjoyed it. Finding ways to help our students connect with one another is important.
While technology is already part of our world, it shouldn’t play such an important role in a learner’s life.
26.How many hours do most students in the school spend on screens every day?(no more than 3 words)
__________________________________________________________________________
27.Why have the teachers come up with the idea of screen-free days? (no more than 18 words)
