When I was in the eighth grade, my class was assigned (指派) to be friends with the secondgrade kids. I got this little girl named Shelley. The first time I saw her, she was silent and cold. She was small for her age, and she didn't play with the other kids in her class.
I tried all kinds of things to get her to talk to me. I bought her toys, crayons and candies. But try as I might, nothing worked. One time, I gave her a coloring book and said, “Shelley, now you can color in it at any time. ”
Shelley looked at the coloring book and then looked up at me, and finally looked away. By that, I didn't know how I was going to get through to the little girl, but I knew I wouldn't give up on her.
One Friday, I decided to tell her a story about my childhood. I told her that I felt lonely when I was with my classmates, and how I thought only my teachers liked me. I also told her that every day was a battle (战役) for me and I fought back tears so people wouldn't know how much I was hurting.
She sat there just listening, trying to decide whether I was lying or not. Finally, when my story ended, there were tears in her eyes. And then she did the unthinkable. She said, “Thank you. ” From then on, Shelley was a different little girl. She started smiling and talking with other kids.
Looking back at this I'm in awe (惊叹), because all I did was to help her realize that she wasn't alone. I didn't ask her to tell her story, because her story is my story.

The mobile phone used among school kids has become a problem for the school years, so one of the rules in our country says that school kids are not allowed to bring mobile phones to school.
It is a good rule because it is hard for school kids to resist the temptation (诱惑) of mobile phones. The mobile phone was a distraction (分心事) to students during school hours and it also brought teachers so much trouble in class before. Sometimes students might use mobile phones to cheat during exams.
However some parents feel unhappy because they can't get in touch with their children. Many people say that they understand why these parents would want their children to have phones, but all of them think schools should let the students know when they can use their mobile phones. So in lots of schools, if a student needs to bring a phone to school, his or her parents will have to write a statement and make sure that the phone is turned off during class. If the student breaks the rule and uses his or her phone during class, the student will be warned.
This is a reasonable rule, isn't it? Under such a rule, students still have some freedom, and they learn how to improve selfdiscipline (自律能力) and live with new technologies. So rules do not necessarily mean there will be no freedom. In my opinion, freedom is based on good rules, so students should obey school rules.

A. to school B. to the hospital

Terrible weather events are harming the planet, and experts warn of even greater results to come. The sea ice loss and the Arctic ice melting (融化) caused by climate change have increased much in the last ten years. So they have pushed down the number of polar bears and seals while polar bears depend on sea ice for hunting seals.
According to the data from the WMO, temperatures on the Antarctica (南极洲) just hit 18. 3℃, which is higher than the record of 17. 5℃ in March, 2015. Moreover, temperatures in this area have warmed about 3℃ over the last 50 years. Although such temperatures might be considered pleasant for a picnic or a hiking trip, this is the Antarctica we are talking about. It is home to the most inhospitable environment on the planet because it is supposed to be an extremely cold place. In fact, the average temperature of the continent's central area is -57 ℃.
Besides, many places are experiencing the extreme weather this summer. Australia is undergoing its worst drought (干旱) since the 1930s, leaving bushfires burning so long and causing many deaths. Meanwhile in Europe, crops in the northwest are suffering the driest weather in the past 80 years. Recently West Texas in America has also gone through its worst drought in more than 70 years, while floods have hit Eastern and Southern China.
“Climate change is bad for us human beings, which causes direct health problems. I'm afraid there will be more common events like the one that 30, 000 to 50, 000 persons died in Europe in 2003 due to the heat wave there, ” Professor Schwartz said. “It will also cause more air pollution, diseases and lack of clean water and so on. ”
61. What doesn't bring down the number of polar bears according to this passage?
A. Hunting. B. Climate change.
C. The sea ice loss. D. The Arctic ice melting.
62. What can you get out of this passage?
A. The Antarctica is pleasant for a hiking trip.
B. Extreme weather led to wildfires burning in Europe.
C. Climate change will cause air pollution and diseases.
D. The temperatures on the Antarctica hit the highest in March, 2015.
63. What does the underlined word “inhospitable” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Comfortable to live. B. Friendly to live.
C. Unhealthy to live. D. Unfit to live.
64. Which place didn't experience drought this year?
A. Europe. B. Australia. C. America. D. China.
65. What is the main idea for this passage?
A. The whole planet is drier and drier.
B. The Antarctica is warmer and warmer.
C. Climate change is getting worse and worse.
D. The number of polar bears is smaller and smaller.

一、21. B 点拨: 第一空后elderly是形容词, 应填定冠词the, 表示上了年纪的一类人, 故排除A、D两项; in a more polite way 意为“以更礼貌的方式”, 此空应填不定冠词a。故选B。
25. A 点拨: run out用完、耗尽; break out爆发; come down下来; fall down倒塌, 跌倒。根据题干可知选A。
26. D 点拨: 本题用语境判定法。have been to去过某地, 又回来了; have gone to 去了某地, 还没回来; have been in在某地。根据语境可知选D。
27. B
28. C 点拨: mustn't禁止; needn't不必; keep保存, 是延续性动词; lend借出, 是瞬间性动词; borrow借, 是瞬间性动词。根据No可知第一空用needn't, 故排除A、B两项。第二空与时间段for two weeks连用, 应用延续性动词。故选C。
29. B 点拨: see sb. do sth. 看见某人做了某事, 其被动形式为sb. be seen to do sth. 。故选B。

六、范文:
Dear friends,
As we know, Shenzhen is working hard to win the title of China's National Civilized City.
It's well known that Shenzhen is striving for one of the civilized cities in China, and now it is a good opportunity for us to make our own contributions.
Firstly, more changes in our daily life, such as sorting out the rubbish and travelling in a greener way, can be made to protect the city environment. What's more, to make Shenzhen a loving city, we are also supposed to help those in need by doing some voluntary work or raising donations. Last but not least, get along with others in an honest and friendly way. We'd better avoid talking about others' privacy if we want to show our respect.
I strongly believe that we will make Shenzhen a more civilized and beautiful city with our joint efforts.
All in all, Shenzhen is our home. It's time to take action.
