Bats have long been one of the most feared creatures in the animal kingdom. Many pop culture associations with them are related to vampire (吸血鬼)men tempting women in order to suck their blood or witches putting evil curses on innocent individuals.
Although these associations are complete misunderstandings, bats do have a dark side as a dangerous disease carrier. These flying mammals can carry a number of deadly diseases such as rabies (狂犬病)and more recently Ebola. This has led many to wonder why we should even care about them.
Sure, there is good reason to be exceptionally cautious if you come into contact with bats. However, there is no denying the fact that bats play a significant role in keeping a balanced ecosystem.
Many organic farmers have learned about the benefits of having bats nearby to help manage the pests that show up without pesticides (杀虫剂).One brown bat — about the size of a human thumb can consume about 600 mosquitoes and other unwanted insects within an hour. They make for a fantastic, almost essential, addition to pest management on any farm.
Even large government organizations have realized the economic benefits of bats. The United States Geological Survey estimates that bat contributions to pest management save the country at least 3.7 billion dollars per year. Without them, we would likely experience a sharp drop in food production, which would eventually make its way into our weekly grocery bills.
As if this were not enough of an ecosystem service we receive, bats are also of great importance to a variety of plant species that are preferential to its pollination (传粉).Otherwise, these plants would decrease their ability to reproduce by at least 50 percent.
A number of plant products consumed by humans fall into this preferential pollination category. Some popular foods include mangoes, bananas, peaches and guavas. Additionally, the agave (龙舌兰)plant, which is used to make tequila (龙舌兰洒),is completely dependent on bat pollinators for reproduction.
Bats are major contributors to our society. They arc in the best interest of the international community to protect and even to promote. Amid significant tears housed by the general public, the fact is that we need them more than most of us imagine.
    28. Why should we be cautious when we contact bats?
    A. They carry diseases. B. They arc aggressive.
    C. They bring bad luck. D. They stay in the dark.
    29. What are Paragraph 4, 5, 6 and 7 mainly about?

Not that long ago, the world wondered whether clean energy could survive without government support. Now the question is how far it can spread. The number of electric vehicles, which was about 1 million in 2015, last year reached 2 million. In electricity generation, too, trend is with the greens. In the first half of this year, wind, solar and hydro generated a record 35% of Germany's power.
Greater success is breeding greater ambition. California is proposing to reach 60% renewable energy by 2030. 176 countries have clean-energy goals. Hawaii, America's most oil-dependent state, has promised to be 100% renewable by the middle of the century and so have 48 poor countries vulnerable to climate change. This week the number of multinationals making a commitment to running their operations on 100% renewable energy rose to 100.
But not every target is helpful. To see why, consider that goal of 100% renewable energy. It makes solving climate change seem easy. In fact, though wind and solar can generate the whole county's electricity some day, renewables still account for less than 8% of the world's total power output. Moreover, cleaning up electricity is only part of the battle. Even though gas-fired heating and cooking can be at least as big a source of greenhouse-gas emissions, renewable heating gets little attention. Transport policy is unpredictable, too. Car manufacturers may hit their goal of annual sales of 10 million electric vehicles in a decade, but battery-powered road transport, shipping and aviation (航空) arc dreams. A much-quoted claim that America could rely on wind, solar and hydro alone for its electricity has recently been bitterly criticized by a group of respected academics.
Most importantly, a 100% renewables target confuses means with ends. The priority for the planet is to stop net emissions (净排放量) of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide. Putting too much emphasis on wind, solar and other renewables may block off better carbon-reduction paths. New technologies, such as “direct air capture” systems designed to separate carbon dioxide from the air, may in time prove vital. Likewise, greater energy efficiency could reduce emissions by even more than using renewables would.
    32. Why is Germany mentioned in Paragraph 1?
    A. To introduce the topic.
    B. To provide a successful example of producing clean energy.
    C. To compare with the USA.
    D. To prove the possibility of the 100% renewables target.
    33. What picture is described at the beginning of the passage?
    A. A tough fight against climate change. B. A huge market of electric vehicles.
    C. A promising future of clean energy. D. A tierce competition between countries.
    34. Why is every target not realistic according to Paragraph 3?
    A. Car makers cannot produce enough batteries.
    B. New energy doesn't receive its due attention in every aspect of society.
    C. Use of traditional energies causes air pollution.
    D. We are lacking in enough wind and solar energy to generate electricity.
    35. Which of the following does the writer probably agree with?
    A. Energy efficiency is superior to using renewables.
    B. People can only use new energy in reality.
    C. Mixing up means with purposes matters most.
    D. The target of 100 renewables is too high to reach.

    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余 选项。
If you're looking for natural, chemical-free ways to clean your home, look no further than the fruit bowl on your kitchen counter. 36 Here are ways a lemon can help you to clean your entire house.
A common use of lemon is cleaning your cutting boards. Because it's the place where you prepare your family's dinner, you probably don't want to wash a cutting board with anything other than the most natural materials. 37 To remove stains from wood or plastic cutting boards, cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice onto the board. Rub the juice in with the lemon half; and then let sit for 20 minutes. 38
Lemon can also help clean stained food containers. If you have a cupboard full of discolored plastic containers, let a lemon work its stain-fighting magic. Squeeze lemon juice onto the stained plastic and rub with the cut side of the lemon. 39 Stubborn sauce stains will disappear.
Lemon can be used as a degreaser (除 油 器 )on almost any hard surface besides wood. Combine the mixture of fresh lemon juice and baking soda in a spray bottle and shake well. The lemon fights stain, and destroys bacteria, while the soda acts as a gently rubbing agent.
40 Add stained clothing to a pot of water with a few lemon slices, and then boil for a few minutes. In this way you can freshen up the appearance of white clothes and towels.
    A. You may just add a little more lemon juice.
    B. Lemons have a surprising amount of cleaning power.
    C. Another use of lemon is getting white clothes brighter.
    D. Then, let the containers dry in the sun and wash normally.
    E. Seize a lemon and then reach for the chemical-filled cleaning sprays.
    F. Luckily, that lemon you use in the recipe can double as a board cleaner.
    G. The lemon acid will work on the stains, exposing a fresh, clean cutting board.

    Dear Mr. Smith.
I'm writing to express my sincere gratitude to you for your generous help during the two-week summer camp.
During the training courses, you were always willing to help me patiently and give me hints on English learning. It was you who encouraged me to be confident to express myself in English. My oral English has improved dramatically since. Also, I really admire your lectures about Western culture, from which I have benefited a lot and had a better understanding of different traditions.
My appreciation is beyond words. I will be more than pleased if I can show you around my hometown in return for your kindness. Looking forward to your coming.
    Yours sincerely.
