This year, AWF launched the inaugural Benjamin Mkapa African Wildlife Phtgraphy Awards. The cntest aims t reach a different audience. While phtgraphy cmpetitins are nthing new, the AWF hpes that the exhibitin f winning entries will encurage African peple t take a mre active rle in cnservatin. Its CEO Kaddu Sebunya said, “Africans need t take the respnsibility fr the cnservatin f their heritage.”
Phtgraphers f all ages and backgrunds, prfessinal and amateur, were invited t submit t the cmpetitin. A judging panel (评选委员会), cmprised f phtgraphers, cnservatinists, activists and safari guides, selected phts frm 12 categries including “Art in Nature” “Cexistence and Cnflict” and “Cnservatin Heres”.

Like many f histry’s greatest ideas, Tetris (俄罗斯方块)came abut quite unintentinally. Alexey Pajitnv was a sftware engineer at the Sviet Academy f Sciences in Mscw, tasked with testing a new type f cmputer. T d s, he wrte a simple game based n a puzzle frm his childhd. It wuld help assess hw pwerful the cmputer was--and prvide a bit f fun. Little did he knw that the resulting game wuld g n t becme ne f the greatest, mst addictive and mst successful f all time.
Tetris is a puzzle game in which gemetric shapes fall dwn nt a playing field, and the player has t arrange them t frm gapless lines. Pajitnv tk inspiratin frm pentmin, a classic puzzle game cnsisting f all the different shapes that can be made by cmbining five squares--12 in ttal--with the gal f arranging them in a wden bx like a jigsaw puzzle.
T simplify things, he kncked that dwn t fur squares, thus reducing the number f shapes frm 12 t seven. He called the game Tetris, cmbining the Greek numeral “tetra”(meaning fur) and tennis, his favrite sprt. Pajitnv himself was immediately hked. “I culdn’t stp myself frm playing this prttype versin, because it was very addictive t put the shapes tgether,” he said n the phne frm Seattle, where he nw lives.
Tetris has been the subject f several scientific studies. One fund that playing the game can be effective in fighting ff cravings fr fd and, while anther nted an increase in the thickness f sme parts f the brain in peple wh had played regularly. Playing Tetris fr prlnged perids f time can lead t players dreaming abut the falling pieces r interpreting real-wrld bjects as shapes in the game and mentally re-arranging them--a phenmenn knwn as “the Tetris Effect”.
“With time ging by, it hasn’t lst any f its play value and nthing has cme t replace Tetris,” said Henk Rgers, a cmputer scientist, explaining the game’s enduring ppularity. “It’s like Happy Birthday. There have been lts f sngs that cme and g, but Happy Birthday is always sung in the same way. Tetris has becme the Happy Birthday f cmputer games.”
Why did Alexey Pajitnv create Tetris?
    T bring back childhd memry.
T prvide mre fun fr the public.
    T update the cmputer system.
    T assess a new kind f cmputer.
What des the underlined wrd “hked” prbably mean in Paragraph 3?

It can stimulate peple’s appetite fr fd.
It can lead t “the Tetris Effect” instantly.
It can increase the verall thickness f the brain.
Why des the authr mentin the sng Happy Birthday in the last paragraph?
T describe the cncept f Tetris.
T indicate the ppularity f Tetris.
T prvide the example f ppular sngs.
T intrduce the tpic f Happy Birthday.

With besity nw affecting 29% f the ppulatin in England, and expected t rise t 35% by 2030, shuld we nw recgnize it as a disease? Obesity, in which excess bdy fat has accumulated t such an extent that health may be adversely affected, meets the dictinary definitin f disease, argues Prfessr Jhn Wilding. He pints ut that mre than 200 genes influence weight. “Thus bdy weight is strngly influenced by bilgy--it is nt an individual’s fault if they develp besity.” Yet the widespread view is that besity is self-induced and that it is entirely the individual’s respnsibility t d smething abut it. Recgnizing besity as a chrnic disease with severe cmplicatins (并发症) rather than a lifestyle chice “shuld help reduce the stigma(耻辱) and discriminatin experienced by many peple with besity,” he adds.
Prfessr Wilding disagrees that labelling a high prprtin f the ppulatin as having a disease remves persnal respnsibility r may verwhelm health services, pinting ut that ther cmmn diseases, such as high bld pressure and diabetes, require peple t take actin t manage their cnditin. He suggests that mst peple with besity will eventually develp cmplicatins. “But unless we accept that besity is a disease, we are nt ging t be able t tackle it,” he cncludes.
But Dr. Richard Pile, a physician with a special interest in diabetes, argues that adpting this apprach “culd actually result in wrse utcmes fr individuals and sciety.” He believes that the dictinary definitin f disease “is s vague that we can classify almst anything as a disease” and says the questin is nt whether we can, but whether we shuld, and t what end.
If labelling besity as a disease was harmless then it wuldn’t really matter, he writes. But labelling besity as a disease “risks reducing autnmy, disempwering and rbbing peple f the intrinsic (内在的) mtivatin that is such an imprtant enabler f change.” What’s mre, making besity is a disease “may nt benefit patients, but it will benefit healthcare prviders and the pharmaceutical (制药的) industry when health insurance and clinical guidelines prmte treatment with drugs and surgery,” he warns.
32.What des Prfessr Jhn Wilding argue abut besity?
    A. Its impact n sciety is expected t rise B. It shuld be regarded as a genetic disease.
    C. It is nw t widespread t be neglected. D. Its dictinary definitin shuld be updated.
33.What is the ppular view f besity?
It is difficult t define. B. It is a mdern disease.
    C.It has much t d with ne’s genes. D. It results frm a lack f self-cntrl.
    34. Why are sme peple ppsed t labelling besity as a disease?
    A. Obese peple wuld be discriminated against.
    B. Obese peple wuld nt be able t affrd the medical csts.
    C. Obese peple wuld be verwhelmed with anxiety.
    D. Obese peple wuld nt feel respnsible t take any actin.
35.What is Dr. Richard Pile’s cncern abut classifying besity as a disease?
    A. It may d little gd t patients. B. It may accelerate the spread f besity.
    C. It may cause a shrtage f dctrs. D. It may affect bese peple’s quality f life.
