Canadians are blessed with an abundance of natural wonders with enough lakes, mountains and rivers to explore for a lifetime. We’ve also got some of the most shocking waterfalls on Earth.
Pissing Mare Falls-Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador
Pissing Mare Falls may have a funny sounding name but they' re no joke: in fact, they' re one of the highest waterfalls in Canada. Located in the beautiful Gros Morne National Park, the falls are only accessible by boat tour.
Takakkaw Falls-Yoho National Park, British Columbia
Takakkaw translated from Cree loosely means the "magnificent", and it's a suitable word for the second-highest waterfalls in Canada. After a steep drive up a winding road, these falls are only a short hike from the parking lot along a wheelchair accessible path.
Niagara Falls-Niagara Falls, Ontario
Niagara Falls are the most famous waterfalls in Canada.Actually they are made up of three different falls—the Horseshoe Falls, the most powerful in North America, are the only one located on the Canadian side.Melting glaciers(冰川)formed the falls thousands of years ago and the beautiful green color is due to dissolved salt and finely ground(磨)rock.
Bridal Veil Falls-Bridal Veil Falls Provincial Park, British Columbia
Pretty and delicate, the Bridal Veil Falls are located just east of Chilliwack, British Columbia, and really do look like a bride with a beautiful veil( 面 纱 ), with water gently pouring over smooth rock. An easy 15-minute walk to the falls takes you through rich leaves. Picnic tables are available, and there are lots of opportunities for viewing wildlife along the way.
21.Where are Pissing Mare Falls?
A.Near British Columbia.

A new study shows that the increased heat from Arctic (北极的)rivers is making sea ice in the Arctic Ocean gradually disappear. The study published this week in Science Advance was led by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, together with other scientists in the United States, United Arab Emi rates , Finland and Canada.
According to the research, the main Arctic rivers bring more heat to the Arctic Ocean than they did in 1980. River heat is one of the reasons that cause sea ice loss of the Arctic Ocean. That loss is equal to about 120,000 square miles of 1-mcter thick ice. "If Alaska were covered by 1-meter thick icc. 20% of Alaska would be gone," explained Igor Polyakov, a re- searcher at the University of Alaska Fairbanks' International Arctic Research Center.
Rivers have the greatest influence during spring. The wanning water pours into the ice covered Arctic Ocean and spreads below the ice, slowly destroying it. Once the sea ice melts(融化), the warm water makes the temperature go up. The research found that much more river heat energy entered the air. Since air is mobile, this means river heat can influence areas of the Arctic far from river deltas (三角洲).
The influence was the most prominent in the Siberian Arctic, where several large rivers go into the Arctic Ocean. Canada's Mackenzie River is the only river large enough to contribute to sea ice meh near Alaska, but the state's smaller rivers are also a source of heat.
Polyakov says that rising global air temperatures will continue to warm Arctic rivers in the future. As rivers heat up, more warm water will flow into the Arctic Ocean, melting more sea ice,
24.What does the increased heat from Arctic rivers cause?
A.Dry weather in the Arctic.
B.A strange disease in the Arctic.
C.The gradual loss of sea ice in the Arctic Ocean.
D.The death of fish in the Arctic Ocean.
25.What can we learn from paragraph 2?
A.Alaska will disappear.
B.There's more and more sea ice in the Arctic Ocean.
C.10% of sea ice in the Arctic Ocean melts each day.
D.Arctic rivers bring more heat to the Arctic Ocean.
26.What does the underlined word "prominent" in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Obvious. B.Important. C.Famous. D.Generous.
27.What is the best title for the text?
A.Arctic Rivers Will Disappear
B.Arctic Rivers Are Melting Arctic Sea Ice
C.Arctic Rivers Will Create a New River Delta
D.Arctic Rivers Bring More Sea Animals to the Arctic Ocean

Humpback whales swim in ocean areas close to land and are active at the surface. They can often be seen breaching, or leaping out of the water, and then coning down with a great splash. And, if you listen closely, you might even hear one singing.
Marine biologist Jim Darling has studied the songs of humpback whales for more than 25 years.
While recording whale songs on a boat near Hawaii, he invited author Douglas Chadwick to experience diving with a humpback. When swimming with the whale, Chadwick could see that the whale was aware of him, but not alarmed by his presence. The 13-meterlong giant looked at him curiously but never harmed him. It pointed its head down to the ocean floor and, with flippers extended out to its sides, began to sing. In the water, Chadwick heard the whale's songs in a way he never heard them before. "Suddenly, I no longer heard the whale's voice in my ears," he said. “I felt it inside my head and bones."
While male humpback whales are mostly quiet in the summer, during winter migrations and breeding activities they sing long, complex patterns of sounds. The songs last between five and 20 minutes, sometimes lasting for 30 minutes or more, and are repeated note for note.
Darling says that only male humpbacks sing, but for unknown reasons. It was previously thought that they sang to attract females, but scientists showed this was incorrect when they played recordings of whale songs in the ocean and the female whales did not respond. Another idea is that male humpbacks compete with each other using songs, just as other male animals on land do using their antlers or tusks. However, they found all male whales in a group sing the same song when they're together. When one whale changes its tune, the rest of the group change to match.
They also found that some groups of whales repeat some of the same musical phrases even in regions thousands of kilometers away. In some years, the groups' songs were very different from one another, but in other years they were very similar.
There is still so much the scientists don't know, and years of study lies ahead for whale researchers like Jim Darling. "Why do I do it?" the wonders aloud. "Human beings like puzzles. I want to know."
28.What's the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To arouse the readers' interest with detailed description.
B.To introduce the topic by explaining how the whales sing.
C.To inspire the readers to protect lovely humpback whales.
D.To present a peaceful scene of the life of humpback whales.
29.What can we imply from the third paragraph?
A.Chadwick was attracted by the whale's song.
B.Chadwick lost his hearing when the whale sang.
C.The whale sang songs to frighten Chadwick away.
D.The whale's song healed Chadwick's bone disease.
30.Which of the following is true about humpback whales?
A.They sing different songs every year. B.Their songs are long and complicated.
C.They are popular with whale watchers. D.Male whales sing to attract female ones.
31.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Explanations on how humpbacks interact with human.

Millions watch the Oscars every year, but I'm always interested in the Razzies (金酸梅奖), which recognize cinematic underachievement. For all the attention given to what we like, what we dislike can be just as important, interesting and empowering.
French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu saw dislike as snobbery. He saw all judgments of taste, favorable or not, as performances of class. The rich could justify their place, he argued, by claiming to have more refined tastes. Knowing which literature or art to praise could signal to. others their rightful place at the top of society. Oversimplified his theory might be, it is not entirely wrong.
Furthermore, dislikes are often used as a way not to stand apart but to fit in. It means learning the unspoken rules of what's OK to like or dislike, and to proclaim those likes or dislikes loudly for others to hear. When some of us swim against the social tide, we might be savvy (精明的) enough to label our likes as "guilty pleasures", which both acknowledges the rules and apologizes for violating them.
In my research, though, I found that dislike isn't just a form of snobbery.
We interviewed over 200 people, a diverse group in race, age, and social class. All the interviewees tended to actively dislike media content far more when they felt they couldn't escape it. Many people can't choose the radio station that's playing at work, or what's on TV at the bar. Moreover, some of us are subjected to more annoyance than others. Remote controls, for instance, have long been seen as a special right of dads, with women and kids given less power to change the channel. Everyone turns to media hoping for specific needs to be met, but those who have those needs realized less often are those who might dislike more often.
Therefore, speaking about dislikes is an act of resistance—a refusal to allow public space to be conquered by the media content that doesn't connect.
Dislike can certainly transform into anger or hate, but it may also take a more playful form. Sometimes we could see people joyfully watch the object of their dislike and offer a commentary of criticism, instead of tuning out and turning off. Why? Reveling in dislike can help regain control in a world that overwhelms everyone with content. Keeping the despised shows at hand rather than avoiding them can help the dislikers speak up in the court of public opinion. Or some might enjoy their dislikes as a way to avoid ruining certain relationships. Many of us can probably relate to the experience of having a friend who insists we watch something against our will.
What if, rather than resenting the show or the person, we simply embrace it in all of its embarrassing glory? By all means, pay attention to the advice to "ignore the haters". But a lot can be learned by listening to the dislikers.
32.According to Paragraph 3, people label their likes as "guilty pleasures" when they_________.
A.follow the mainstream B.take pride in their taste
C.set up the unspoken rules D.try to fit into a certain group
33.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Dislikes can he found mostly among the rich.
B.Learning about literature and art is an act of snobbery.
C.Expressing dislike helps maintain one's social relationships
D.Exposure to unwanted media content intensifies people's dislike.
34.What does the underlined phrase "Reveling in" in the text probably mean?
A.Taking delight in B.Showing concern for.
C.Drawing lessons from. D.Establishing connection to
35.What message does the author try to convey in this passage?
A.We are encouraged to launch debates over hot issues in public.
B.Staying away from the haters is a sensible means to avoid trouble.
C.Embracing our dislikes can be a way to deal with power imbalance
D.The media should aim to meet the needs of different groups of audience.

Time Lost Can Not Be Recalled
As this topic indicates, time is valuable and can't get back once it passes by.
I'll never forget last summer vacation, when I was addicted to online games. Having played day and night, I ignored all my homework. How time flew! When I returned to school in the new term, I felt myself left far behind by my classmates in studies, which greatly discouraged me. I came to realize my fault. However hard I tried, I still couldn't make up for the lost time.
I do hope my story can remind us all to treasure time and make full use of it to improve ourselves.
