The Forbidden City is in the heart of Beijing, China. It was built under the orders of the Yongle Emperor of the Ming Dynasty between 1406 and 1420. When the palace was completed, the Yongle Emperor moved the capital of the empire to Beijing.
The Forbidden City is enormous. It covers an area of 725,000 square metres. There are 90 different palaces with courtyards. “Can you?” the Scarecrow says. “That’s good. You can take us across on your back, one by one.”

“Easy!” the Scarecrow replies. “The Tin Woodman can cut down some trees and build a raft. We can cross the river on that.”
“That’s a good idea,” the Lion says to the Scarecrow, “One would believe you had brains in your head, instead of straw!”
But it takes time to make a raft, and it’s very late when the Tin Woodman finishes it. So they find a cozy place under the trees where they sleep well until the morning. That night, Dorothy dreams of flying to the Emerald City and finding the good Wizard Oz, who would soon send her back to Kansas.

A Special Gift
People often give gifts to show their family affection, friendship and love. I have received many gifts and the most special one is a hand-made calendar.
It was made by my best friend Andy on my 14th birthday. On each page of the calendar, there is a picture of Andy and me with some encouraging words he wrote.
The gift is special to me because it is a memory of the wonderful time we spent together. Besides, the words on it encourage me to keep trying whenever I want to give up in the face of difficulties. Thanks to his gift, I have become more confident, and solved many problems by myself. What’s more, I have learned the importance of friendship.
Whenever I look at the calendar, I am touched by something warm, and my heart is filled with love. I will keep this special gift forever.
