以系动词be和实义动词study为例,一般过去时的肯定式、否定式、疑问式和简略答语构成如下:

肯定句: 否定句: 一般疑问句:
He studied all day.He didn’t study all day.Did he study all day? Yes, he did./N, he didn’t.

(1) 规则动词过去式 (regular change)
1. 一般加ed: visit—visited; lk—lked2. 以e结尾的加d: dance—danced; live—lived3. 以辅音字母加y结尾的变y为i加ed: study—studied; carry—carried4. 以辅元辅结尾的重读闭音节词,双写末尾的辅音字母加ed: stp—stpped; plan—planned
(2) 不规则动词过去式 (irregular change)
1. 没有变化,如:cut—cut2. 改变元音,如:write—wrte3. 元音和辅音都有改变,如:buy—bught(参见不规则动词表)

用来对过去事情发生的时间、地点、途径、原因等进行提问。疑问词有what, where, when, wh, why, hw, etc.
