The percentage f bys aged 13 t 17 wh are interested in science, technlgy, engineering and math ---r STEM ---careers drpped frm 36 percent in 2017 t 24 percent this year, accrding t a survey by Junir Achievement USA. The amunt f girls interested in STEM careers stayed unchanged at 11 percent.
But the 1, 000 survey participants still named technlgy as ne f tw key skills that will be necessary t prepare them fr their future careers.
“Kids dn' t understand hw technlgy can be applied t careers in additin t cmputers, and maybe rbtics, ”said Tammera L. Hlmes, president f aviatin cnsulting firm Aerstar

“Immediately that was the career fr me. ”she said.
Wmen remain utnumbered (超过) by men in fields like technlgy. Fr peple wrking t increase the number f wmen in these areas, the lack f grwth in girls interest in STEM careers is cncerning.
Teenage girls are mre interested than their male classmates in running after careers in which they can help thers, said Ed Grchlski frm Junir Achievement. Even with all the prgrams aimed at increasing girls' interest in STEM, “I dn’t think we really talk that much abut hw we imprve peple’s lives thrugh STEM, ” Grchlski said.
Sciety needs t d better at making thse cnnectins fr kids, said Katherine Latham, funder f an engineering firm. She used civil engineering as an example f a career that will cntinue t be imprtant.
Hwever, the fact that students knw they will need tech skills in their future careers is encuraging.
The secnd skill they said they need is relatinship-building. “That's ging t be the new type f engineers,” Latham said.
What is the reasn behind kid’s lsing interest in tech careers?
    A. They can’t cnnect their tech interest with future careers.
They find tech skills less imprtant than befre.
They dn' t think tech careers can bring rewards
They see tech careers as bring.
What arused Hlmes‟ interest in her career?
    A. A summer camp fr pilts.
Her flight experience with a pilt.
    C. A reprt abut the life f pilts
    D. Her parents' wish fr her.
What can we learn frm Grchlski's wrds?
STEM careers have nthing t d with peple' s lives.
Teenage girls are interested in running after STEM careers.
Teenagers dn' t knw hw t imprve peple’s lives thrugh STEM.
The relatinship between STEM careers and the imprvement f peple’s lives isn’t explained enugh.
Accrding t Grchlski, teenage girls are mre interested in careers that____.
    can make them lk attractive
can make friends with ther peple

In the experiment, the researchers wrked with teachers in 16 fifth-grade classrms. They prvided traditinal science lessns and art-fcused nes. In a traditinal science class, fr example, students might read alud frm a bk. In the art-fcused ne, they might sing the infrmatin instead.
The team randmly assigned(随机分配)each f the 350 students t either a traditinal science classrm r an art-fcused ne. Students then learned science using that way fr the whle unit—abut three weeks. When they changed t a new tpic, they als changed t the ther type f class. This way, each student had bth an art-fcused class and a traditinal ne. Every unit was taught in bth ways, t different grups f students. This enabled the researchers t see hw students did in bth types f classes.
The team fund that students wh started ff in traditinal classes perfrmed better after they mved int an art-fcused class. But thse wh started in an art-fcused class did well even when they went back t a traditinal science class. These students appeared t use sme f the art techniques(技巧)after ging back t a traditinal class. Classrm teachers reprted that many students cntinued t sing the sngs that they learned after finishing the unit. "The mre we hear smething, the mre we retain it," Hardiman says. "It suggests that the arts may help students apply creative ways f learning n their wn."

Their findings have recently been published in the jurnal Crygenics.

“A huge part f my jb is lking at smething n paper and asking, „Can we fly this?‟” Manan Arya, a technlgist in Califrnia, said. “Once I realized this is hw yu fld spacecraft structures, I became interested in rigami. I realized I was gd at it and enjyed it. Nw, I fld cnstantly. ”
Using rigami fr space purpses isn’t new, hwever. Slar arrays (太阳能阵列), experimental wings fr space shuttle prgrams and an inflatable (可充气的) satellite were als inspired by rigami in bth past and present space prjects.
“With mst rigami, the magic cmes frm the flding,” Rbert Salazar, wh helped design the Starshade and nw wrks n the Transfrmers prject, said in a statement. “There are s many patterns t still be explred.”
Hw culd the “bladder” help in future missins? A. T prtect spacecrafts frm extreme weather.
T help rcket engines cut energy cnsumptin.
T be used t stre and supply fuel in spacecrafts.
T be used t imprve energy efficiency.
What can we knw abut NASA‟s Starshade?
It can be used t get telescpes clser t stars.
It can help telescpes get clearer pictures f bjects in space.
It can absrb a star’s light befre it enters telescpes.
It can enlarge the view f telescpes in space.
    What is this text?
    A travel jurnal. B. A science reprt.
