The Curse of the Were-Rabbit(2005) is the first full-length feature film made by directors Nick Park and Steve Box with their amazing plasticine(粘土) characters Wallace and Gromit. It won an Oscar in 2006, and if you watch it, you’ll understand why. It’s an absolutely brilliant cartoon comedy.
Cheese-loving inventor Wallace and his brainy dog Gromit have started a company to protect the town’s vegetables from hungry rabbits. However, just before the annual Giant Vegetable Competition, an enormous rabbit begins terrorising the town. It is attacking all the vegetables and destroying everything in its path. The competition organizer, Lady Tottington, hires Wallace and Gromit to catch the monster alive. But they will have to find the were-rabbit before gun-crazy hunter Victor Quartermaine who is desperate to kill it.
The screenplay is witty and full of amusing visual jokes. As usual, the voice of Peter Sallis is absolutely perfect for the role of Wallace, and Gromit is so beautifully brought to life, he can express a huge range of emotions without saying a word. And both Helena Bonham-Carter, who plays the part of Lady Tottington, and Ralph Fiennes as Victor are really funny.
To sum up, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit is an amazing film which is suitable for both children and adults. If you liked Wallace and Gromit’s previous adventures and you appreciate the British sense of humour, you’ll love this film. Don’t miss it! |

I had only swum in open water a few times, and always in gentle lakes, so I wasn’t prepared for how rough Lake Windermere appeared on a cold day. A swimmer told me the water felt colder than it had been measured, and that the water was a bit rough. But I, along with 10,000 others, was about to complete the challenge.
Most of the people taking part were doing a one-mile race, and 10 races were planned over the weekend. There seemed to be a mix of open-water enthusiasts alongside complete beginners—which is precisely the aim of the swims, to get as many people as possible completing their own challenge. The oldest woman competing was 77, taking part in the two-mile race, alongside a man who last year had swum in every one-mile race.
I had chosen the third one-mile race of the day. There were over 600 people in my race. We were taken through an acclimatization area, a children’s paddling pool-sized part of the lake where we moved in to feel how cold the water was. “Not too bad” was everyone’s thought! Then we headed out towards the middle of the lake.
We’d been warned that the first 100 metres would be really rough. However, somewhere near the 750m mark I was still waiting for the calm; it felt more like swimming in the sea than a lake. I tried to focus on my breathing and technique, and just keep going. As I approached the 400m-to-go mark my lower right leg became painful. I recalled overhearing people talking about how they kept swimming through the pain, so I tried. But it didn’t work. I began to feel the entire leg tight and painful. I didn’t want to stop, so I bent my right knee and just kicked with the left leg.
Finally I saw the finishing post, and I just concentrated on getting there—still one-legged. My finishing time was 38 minutes 25 seconds but that didn’t matter—the atmosphere was fantastic and everyone felt a sense of achievement, whatever their time. I’m hooked, and want to give it another go. I’ve already signed up for my next open-water swim.
24. How did the author feel before the race?
A. Scared of the most challenging race.
B. Determined to be as tough as the people around her.
C. Concerned about the other swimmers in the race.
D. Disappointed by the difficult conditions.
25.Why does the author mention the two people in Paragraph 2?
A. To stress the importance of the race.
B. To praise the experienced swimmers.
C. To introduce the various events of the race.
D.To show the wide range of the participants.
26.The author suggests in Paragraph 4 that ______.
A. the race would cause breathing problems
B. it would have been easier if she had taken others’ advice
C. it was really necessary to prepare for tough swims
D. the race became harder than she had expected
27.What does the author talk about in the last paragraph?
A. Her confidence in her own ability.
B. Her eagerness to repeat the experience.
C. Her pride in having swum so quickly.
D. Her surprise at having managed to finish.
C
The latest diet trend in America is also an ancient human activity. The activity is fasting (禁食), or not eating food for a set amount of time. Like other diets, intermittent (间歇的) fasting helps you lose weight by setting limits on eating. But instead of limiting what you eat, it limits when you eat.
One of the more popular approaches to intermittent fasting is called “time-restricted feeding”. It is not as difficult as some of the other approaches, since the fasting period can include the time you are sleeping. The basic idea of time-restricted feeding is to limit eating to an eight-hour period. You then fast during the day’s other 16 hours.
Many people make the eating period shorter or longer. Some eat just one meal a day. In other approaches, people fast several days during a week. On fasting days, some people may permit themselves around 600 calories. Whatever the approach, people are not supposed to overeat when they stop fasting.
Studies on the potential health benefits of intermittent fasting are still limited, including for its effectiveness with weight loss. For now, limited research suggests it may not be any better for weight loss than reducing calorie intake over the long term.
They point to a study of 100 people where those placed in a fasting group lost about the same amount of weight as those on diets that restricted calories. The fasting group had a dropout rate of 38 percent, compared with 29 percent for the caloric-restriction diet group.
People interested in intermittent fasting should talk to their doctor before trying it. Health experts do not recommend intermittent fasting for children, people on some medications and people with a history of eating disorders.
28.What counts in the new diet trend in America?
A.The quality of dinner. B.The amount of food.
C.The dinning time. D.The type of diet.
29.What does the author think of “time-restricted feeding”?
A. Very strict. B.Nearly useless. C.Rather difficult. D.Relatively easy.
30.Which of the following is the author's suggestion?
A.Stick to the rules. B.Avoid eating too much.
C.Use a variety of methods to fast. D.Research intermittent fasting further.
31.What do we know about intermittent fasting from the last paragraph?
A.It's not fit for everyone.
B.It can cost a lot of money.
C.Health experts think highly of the method of losing weight.
D.It's supported by some medicine.

Baby giraffes inherit(经遗传获得) aspects of their mothers’ patterning—which could give them a survival advantage if good camouflage(保护色) runs in the family. Just like humans have unique sets of fingerprints, every giraffe has a unique set of spots.
Derek Lee is a wildlife biologist and population ecologist at Penn State, and with the Wild Nature Institute, a research consulting group. He and his colleagues have been tracking giraffes for seven years, throughout 1,500 square miles in Tanzania.
Now, they’ve used image analysis software to study the spots of mothers and their babies. And they found that baby giraffes inherit at least some particular elements of their patterning from their mothers, like how circular the spots are. They also found that baby giraffes with larger spots have better chance to survive their first months, because the spots are more like the dappled(斑驳的) sunlight in the bushes where baby giraffes like to hide from hungry lions and hyenas (wild animals like dogs).
The results—and a lot of giraffe patterns—are recorded and explained in the journal Peer J.[Lee et al., Seeing spots:quantifying motheroffspring similarity and assessing fitness consequences of coat pattern traits in a wild population of giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis)]
It’s perhaps not surprising that a physical characteristic that protects an individual from being eaten passes the test of Darwinian natural selection—and get passed along to later generations. “The fact that these things are inheritable and they do affect survival of baby animals makes us feel like evolution is embodied exactly by these spot features.” So if a mom’s camouflage is good, her babies, too, might have the spots that keep them safer.
32.Why are baby giraffes with larger spots more likely to survive?
A. Because their mothers tend to protect them more.
B. Because they keep away from lions and hyenas.
C. Because their spots match surroundings better.
D. Because they barely move around in the bushes.
33.What does the author intend to do in paragraph 4?
A. Summarize the previous paragraphs. B. Add some background information.
C. Introduce a new topic for discussion. D. Provide evidence for the findings.
34.What does “embodied” underlined in the last paragraph mean?
A. Promoted. B.Prevented. C. Questioned. D. Represented.
35.What is the best title for the text?
A. Animals Have Their Unique Sets of Patterning
B. Derek Lee Has Been Studying Animal Patterning
C. Mom’s Genes Make Some Giraffes Hard to Spot
D. Animal Physical Characteristics Are Similar to Family’s

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Healthy eating begins with learning how to eat smart—it's not just what you eat, but how you eat. Your food choices can reduce your risk of illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, as well as defend against bad mood. Moreover, learning the habits of healthy eating can increase your energy, sharpen your memory and stabilize (稳定) your mind.
Healthy eating is about more than the food on your plate. 36 Healthy eating habits can be learned and it is important to slow down and think about the food as nourishment (营养) rather than just something to gulp down between meetings or on the way to your school.
*Eat with others whenever possible.
Eating with other people has a lot of benefits—particularly for children and allows you to follow healthy eating habits. 37
*Take time to chew your food and enjoy mealtimes.
Chew your food slowly and taste every bite. We always tend to rush through our meals, forgetting to taste and feel the food in our mouth. Reconnect with the joy of eating.
* 38
Ask yourself if you are really hungry, or have a glass of water to see if you are thirsty instead of hungry. 39 It actually takes a few minutes for your brain to tell your body that it has had enough food, so eat slowly.
*Eat breakfast and smaller meals through the day.
40 And eating small, healthy meals throughout the day (rather than the standard three large meals) keeps your energy up and your metabolism going.
A. Listen to your body.
B. It is about where you eat your food.
C. It is also about how you think about the food.
D. Drink more water when you are hungry.
E. A healthy breakfast can start your metabolism (新陈代谢).
F. During a meal, stop eating before you feel full.
G. Eating in front of the TV or computer often leads to mindless overeating.
