一、一般过去通常用于叙述过去发生的事情。二、若主语是第一人称单数或第三人称单数时, 谓语动词用was; 主语是第二人称或其它人称的复数时, 谓语动词用were。
三、句子结构：1. 肯定句: 主语 + was / were +… e.g. They were at hme last night.昨晚他们在家。2. 否定句: 主语 + was nt (wasn’t) / were nt (weren’t) + … Tm and Li Ming were nt in the classrm just nw. 汤姆和李明刚才不在教室。
3. 一般疑问句及答语：Was/ Were +主语+…？Yes, 主语(代词)+was/ were. N, 主语(代词)+wasn’t/ weren’t. — Were yu n the farm yesterday? 昨天你在农场吗？ — Yes, I was. 是的, 我在农场。—  N, I wasn’t. 不, 我不在。
四、常用时间状语：last +名词 (year, mnth), yesterday, the day befre yesterday, in +过去时间 (1980), … ag (ten years ag)等。Tm went t Beijing last mnth.汤姆上个月去了北京。
