    Hidden gardens in London
From nature reserves to community spaces, we’ve dug up some of London’s most secret gardens, where you’ll find pockets of splendid nature and forget about all your worries.
    Queen’s Wood
Across the road from the better-known Highgate Wood, there is something more magical and quiet about Queen’s Wood— witness its hilly pathways through the mountain ash and cherry trees. It might be only a few hundred metres from Highgate tube station, but native bluebells and countless species of small animals make this a wonderful retreat.
    Phoenix Garden
Behind Charing Cross Road, this is a super spot for a leafy lunchtime break. Look out for frogs and sparrows, which are thriving thanks to an enthusiastic conservation initiative. The garden closed last autumn for redevelopment work but has reopened in time to take advantage of our long-awaited spell of improved weather.
    Postman’s Park
A short walk from St Paul’s Cathedral lies one of London’s most touching monuments: George Frederic Watts’s Memorial to Heroic Self-Sacrifice. Within the quiet Postman’s Park, nestled beneath a roof, are just over 50 ceramic plaques(牌匾), each honoring the memory of an ordinary person who lost their life trying to save others.
    Red Cross Garden
Originally intended to give Southwark children a space to play, this Victorian garden has been restored to its original design, complete with pond, cottage, bandstand and formal borders. While relaxing in the restored bandstand, it’s hard to imagine the view back in 1887 when it was surrounded by workhouses and factories.
    21. Which garden is close to a subway station?
    A. Queen’s Wood. B. Phoenix Garden. C. Postman’s Park. D. Red Cross Garden.
    22. What can you do in Postman’s Park?
    A. Take photos of old workhouses. B. Swim in the pond.
    C. Learn stories about selflessness. D. Enjoy a band show.
    23. What do Phoenix Garden and Red Cross Garden have in common?
    A. They have got some repair work. B. They were surrounded by factories.
    C. They will be temporarily closed. D. They have the same original design

    2.1(2022甘肃省高三二模试题B篇)
Paparella first became aware of foster care(寄养中心)in elementary school when her parents were considering adopting a child. The plan didn’t work out, but Paparella often found herself thinking about that girl.
At 16, Paparella visited Summit County Children Services in Akron, Ohio, with a list of questions, trying to understand what aging out looked like. One of her questions was “What do these young people need most?” Near the top of the list was furniture. “That struck home!” say Paparella. The idea of moving into an apartment and not having a bed to sleep on or a sofa to sit on pulled at my heartstrings.
Paparella contacted her parents’ friends, asking if they had spare furniture to donate. A local furniture store, Chez-Del Interiors, offered free warehouse space and its delivery truck. Social workers provided delivery. In between lacrosse games and college applications, Paparella --with her dad’s help --added furniture delivery person to her résumé.
Watching the receiver’s faces when they receive a bed a couch-whatever-would change her in a way. Paparella remembers delivering a gold lamp to a woman and watching her polish it lovingly, getting rid of dust and fingerprints. To think that this lamp which hadn’t been thought about in years now brought so much happiness to somebody was amazing.” Paparella says.
Today, Paparella has given furniture to nearly 200 young adults across six Ohio counties. As word has gotten out, Paparella has received donations from people who have bought new furniture and want to get rid of their old pieces. People who are moved, and people who have heard of her work on social networking sites. She’s convinced these contributions give the receivers hope and confidence.
    24. Why did Paparella visit Summit County Children Services?
    A. She considered adopting a child.
    B. She planned to take care of the children there.
    C. She wanted to know the life of grow-ups there.

    25. What does the underlined sentence “That struck home!” in Paragraph 2 mean?
    A. Moving. B. Shocking. C. Amusing. D. Disappointing.

    2.2(2022广东省惠州市高三三调试题B篇)
In the last three years, I have read approximately 150 books. Reading almost every day in the last three years has increased my reading comprehension. It has also improved my own writing skills. This has boosted my confidence and encouraged me to start writing more often. I am now writing a fiction book. I write and edit for Odyssey, and I am an officer for the SNHU Book Club. This has also helped me become a better student. I’m able to read and comprehend the text more for each class, and do well on the assignments because of my better writing skills. I truly love it, and can’t imagine where I would be right now if I hadn’t become a bookworm.
Because I read so much, I have decided to start doing a written version of a book haul (读书分享会). In short, a book haul is a review of the books read each month. They are typically done as a video, but until I have the proper equipment to do that, I will be writing mine. At the end of each month I will discuss the books I read, the books I bought, or received, and then ask for your thoughts and suggestions.
January was a busy month for me. I only finished one book, Mark of Distinction by Jessica Dotta. It’s the second book in the Price of Privilege trilogy. I bought Carve the Mark, Veronica Roth’s new book, and An Unquiet Mind, a psychology based book by Kay Redfield Jamison. I plan on reading these in February, as well as the third section of the Red Queen series, King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard, which will be released on February 7. I am so excited for it!
If you’ve read any of the books I ever mention, feel free to reach out either on here, or Twitter! I love chatting about books!
    24. What does paragraph 1 mainly tell us about the author?
    A. How she writes for a magazine. B. How she becomes a bookworm.
    C. How she benefits from reading. D. How she improves academic performance.
    25. What can we know about the author’s book haul?
    A. It’s done as a video. B. It’s represented in written form.
    C. It’s a face-to-face review. D. It’s all about the already-read books.
    26. What do we know about Price of Privilege?
    A. It is culture-specific. B. It is psychology-based.
    C. It is a series of books. D. It is to be released soon.

    3.1(2022广西钦州市高三二模试题C篇)
While some Chinese specialists suggest abolishing traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), foreign pharmaceutical (制药的) institutions and industries are pursuing them. Of the global herbal (药草的) medicine sales volume, the Chinese mainland accounts for only 2 percent and Japan has the lion’s share of the market, far ahead of other countries. More than 100 countries and regions around the world have set up TCM institutions, with the United States, Europe, Japan and South Korea spending millions of dollars in research and developing medicine. The UK-based pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline announced its first TCM medicine research and development program, which targets not just the Chinese market, but the global one as well.
“TCM is a well-built medical science based on thousands of years of clinical practices. It shows great promise treating complicated conditions that the single-target Western medicine has failed to handle,” says Zang Jingwu, senior vice-president and head of GlaxoSmithKline’s R&D in China. “Our focus is to transform TCM from an experience-based practice to evidence-based medicines through innovation,” he says.
Currently, a 10-person team in Shanghai is in charge of the program. However, TCM is different from Western medicine, so great innovation is required to combine the two sciences. In fact, many in Western medicine circles have recognized the importance of TCM, but the problem is how to prove and develop that. TCM is developed through practical experience and improvement of herbs but many people in the West don’t trust that. TCM, particularly herbal products, are largely available in the US and Europe, but questions like how to prove their effectiveness in the context of Western medicine and how to best use them remain unanswered.
Zhang Lingping, director of the international cooperation department of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, welcomed the emerging trend. “Their increasing interest shows Western medicine circles have begun to learn about the time-honored medical science, which originated in China,” she says.
    28. Which country holds the biggest volume in the global herbal medicine sales?
    A. The Chinese mainland. B. Japan. C. South Korea. D. The United States.
    29. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
    A. Traditional Chinese medicine needs eagerly innovating.
    B. Herbal products are effective in treating complex diseases.
    C. A medication research and development program was set up.
    D. Western medicine is evidence-based rather than experience-based.
    30. How did Zhang Lingping react to the emerging trend?
    A. She kept her neutral attitude towards it. B. She conveyed her recognition about it.
    C. She expressed her worry about it. D. She attached no importance to it.
    31. What is the best title for the text?
    A. TCM Is Gaining Global Popularity. B. TCM Is Facing an Awkward Situation.
    C. TCM Has More Advantages over Western Medicine.
    D. TCM’s Effectiveness Is Being Testified.

Kazunori Takishima has been traveling the world to support Japan at every Olympic Games for the past 15 years, so he intended to see the event in his home city of Tokyo. But when a ban on audience was announced, that dream was over.
He had spent nearly $40,000 on 197 tickets for him and his friends to see as many events as possible during Tokyo 2020, which started on July 23.
“It took an unbelievable amount of time, effort, and passion,” Takishima told CNN. “But I was so passionate about the Olympics that even though it was very difficult and challenging, I enjoyed the process of buying the tickets.”
The 45-year-old businessman worked out that if he watched all the events he had booked, he would have broken the Guinness World Record for attendance at Olympic events. He got a refund (退款) on the tickets he had purchased.
Takishima’s love for the Olympics started in 2005 when he saw a figure skating competition for the first time and immediately bought tickets for the 2006 Torino Olympics in Italy. He was infatuated. It inspired him so much that he has been going to the Olympics ever since.
But this year, only members of the media and the selected people were allowed to watch the events. The decision by Olympic officials to ban audience was designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“And it’s the athletes that will suffer the most from the lack of support in the stands,” Takishima said.
“It’s a great loss when your family can’t come,” Takishima said. “So I hope everyone will at least cheer for them in front of the TV.”
Despite his disappointment, he said the experience wouldn’t stop him from being an Olympic superfan. “I will continue to visit and support the Olympics until the day I die,” Takishima said. “While I’m still able to move, I plan to see all the Games from the opening to the closing ceremonies.”

A walk in the park may be just what the doctor ordered. A new program launched last month in Canada gives some doctors the option of providing patients with a free annual pass to the country's national parks as part of an effort to increase access to nature and the health benefits.
PaRx, a health initiative launched by the BC Parks Foundation in 2019, partnered with Parks Canada to provide doctors across four provinces with an initial run of 100 passes that can be prescribed(开处方). The program allows doctors to write more general prescriptions for time spent out in nature; two hours a week, at least 20 minutes at a time, is what PaRx director Dr. Melissa Lem suggests.
“Given the growing body of evidence that indicates nature time can improve all kinds of different physical and mental health conditions, we’re hoping that our PaRx program not only improves patient health, but reduces costs to the health-care system, and helps to grow the number of people who are more engaged environmental advocates,” said Prama Rahman, a coordinator for the BC Parks Foundation.
Doctors have been catching on, instructing their patients to turn to nature to improve their health and they're getting creative in how they do it. Dr. Robert Zarr, a doctor based in Washington, began prescribing accessible outdoor activities for his young patients and even created a searchable online database of local parks to make it easier.
But getting outside isn’t always as easy as it might sound. Income can affect one’s access to nature, an issue that PaRx is trying to address in Canada. Doctors utilizing the new national parks pass program are urged to prioritize patients who might not otherwise be able to afford these passes.
While only 100 adult passes, which give holders access to more than 80 national parks, historic sites and nature reserves, have initially been made available, organizers plan to routinely reassess this number as the program grows, the BC Parks Foundation told NPR
    28. What is PaRx intended to do?
    A. Qualify doctors to prescribe. B. Give patients free access to parks.
    C. Promote free admission to parks. D. Advocate 20 minutes’ walk a day.
    29. What does the underlined word “utilizing” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
    A. Financing. B. Setting up. C. Evaluating. D. Carrying out.
    30. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
    A. The BC Parks Foundation is expanding rapidly.
    B. The program has signed up 80 national parks.
    C. More people will benefit from the program.
    D. Those living close to parks can gain priority.
    31. Which is the best title of the text?
    A. PaRx, a Nature Prescription Program. B. BC Parks Foundation in Canada
    C. Year-long Passes to National Parks D. A New Study on Benefits of Walk

    4.2(2022河南省高三下核心模拟卷III, C篇 )
Honda is developing an in-shoe navigation (导航) system to support the visually impaired (受损的) with walking, and it could be a game-changer.
The Ashirase is a navigation system consisting of a smartphone app and a three-dimensional device including a motion sensor, which is attached inside the shoe. Based on the route set with the app, the device vibrates (振动) to provide navigation. When the user should go straight, the vibrator positioned on the front part of the foot vibrates, and when the user is approaching a right or left turn, the vibrator on the right or left side vibrates to notify the user.
The navigation provided by Ashirase enables the user to understand the routes more easily, and thus the user does not have to be constantly mindful of the direction, which makes it possible for the user to walk more safely and with a more relaxed state of mind. Having navigation provided through vibration on the foot is also useful in that it does not bother the user’s hand which is holding a walking stick, or ears used to listen to surrounding sounds.
Why is a company known for its automobiles getting involved in this area? Because it matters. In Japan alone, the number of people with visual impairment including low vision was estimated to be 1. 64 million as of 2007, and the number is forecast to increase to nearly 2 million by 2030.
With the concept of “navigation which enables safety and a relaxed state of mind for the visually impaired”, Ashirase is being developed as a product which helps the visually impaired reach their destinations safely and have a more independent lifestyle.
Wataru Chino, a designer at Honda, said, “I am sure that we will face many challenges as we work toward the market launch of Ashirase; however, we’re bound to overcome them to realize the freedom of mobility for visually impaired people.”
    28. What does the underlined word “notify” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
    A. Protect. B. Assess. C. Inform. D. Stop.
    29. What does paragraph 3 focus on concerning Ashirase?
    A. Its benefits for its users. B. Its working principles.
    C. Its potential challenges. D. Its future improvements.
    30. Why does Honda choose to develop the navigation system?
    A. Most Japanese people expect the company to do so.
    B. The company has trouble developing new automobiles.
    C. There is an increasing demand from the visually impaired.
    D. The company determines to prevent more visual impairment.
    31. What do Wataru Chino’s words suggest?
    A. He is confident to make the system accessible.
    B. He believes the system will earn much money.
    C. He is worried about the future market potential.
    D. He finds developing the system less challenging.

    5.1(2022黑龙江省哈尔滨市高三二模试题D篇)
You may not know it, but your brain is already an amazing vocabulary learning machine. When you read or listen to something, your brain doesn’t take each word at face value: it’s continuously taking statistics about which words appear together regularly so that it can expect what’s coming next and process speech faster.
Our brains continuously release electrical signals, which change depending on what task your brain is dealing with. Scientists can use a technique to read some of these to study how your brain processes language.
One of these signals, called N400, changes depending on whether words make sense in context or not. The N400 is relatively small for expected word combinations, like coffee and cream, and increases in height for unexpected word combinations, like coffee and cap. This means that scientists can read the N400 height to analyze the kind of expectations you have about which words usually appear together.
In language learners, the N400 changes based on proficiency (熟练程度). The better people get at a language, the closer their N400 pattern is to native speaker’s. This means that an important part of language proficiency is taking statistics and building expectations about what words usually appear together, just as native speakers do.
To get better at this, we need to flood our brains with loads of natural content, so we can build up a picture of which kinds of words usually appear together. Reading is a great way to do this and there’s lots of research that shows that reading works wonders for your vocabulary skills.
However, it is important to remember that if there are too many unknown words, it can be difficult to figure out what they mean from the context. And it is unpleasant having to stop every two miles to look up a word. Graded readers, which are books adapted to make them easier to understand at lower levels, are perfect for learners of foreign languages.
    32. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 1?
    A. To state a fact. B. To offer a suggestion.
    C. To make a comparison. D. To propose a definition.
    33. What does it mean if the N400 increases?
    A. We make sense of some word combinations in a context.
    B. We combine some new words to make a sentence.
    C. We memorize some word combinations to learn a language.
    D. We meet some word combinations beyond our expectations.
    34. How can we have a native speaker-like N400 pattern according to the author?
    A. By reading some books about vocabulary skills.
    B. By reading lots of natural content.
    C. By reading loads of books about nature and drawing pictures.
    D. By reading authentic content to increase our vocabulary.
    35. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
    A. It is more beneficial to read easy books.
    B. It is important to look up new words.
    C. We should mainly read adapted books.
    D. We should choose materials right for our level.

    5.2(2022江苏省高三仿真模试卷II, D篇)
Think back to when you were in a maths classroom, and the teacher set a difficult problem. Which of the two following responses is closer to the way you reacted?
A: Oh no, this is too hard for me. I’m not even going to seriously try and work it out.
B: Ah, this is quite tricky, but I like to push myself. Even if I don’t get the answer right, maybe I’ll learn something in the attempt.
Early in her career, the psychologist Carol Dweck of Stanford University gave a group of ten-year-olds problems that were slightly too hard for them. One group reacted positively and loved the challenge. She says they had a ‘growth mindset’ and are focused on what they can achieve in the future. But another group of children felt that their intelligence was being judged and they had failed. They had a ‘fixed mindset’ and were unable to imagine improving. Some of them looked for someone who had done worse than them to boost their self-esteem.
Professor Dweck believes that there is a problem in education at the moment. For years, children have been praised for their intelligence or talent, but this makes them vulnerable(脆弱的) to failure. They become performance-oriented, wanting to please by getting high grades, but they are not interested in learning for its own sake. The solution, according to Dweck, is to lead them to become mastery-oriented (i.e., interested in getting better at something). She claims that the ever-lasting effort over time is the key to outstanding achievement.
Psychologists have been testing these theories. Underperforming school children on a Native American reservation were exposed to growth mindset techniques for a year. The results were nothing less than incredible. They came top in regional tests, beating children from much more privileged backgrounds. These children had previously felt that making an effort was a sign of stupidity, but they came to see it as the key to learning.
    32. What can we learn about a person if his answer is closer to “B”?
    A. He is performance-oriented. B. He tends to set limits to his life.
    C. He enjoys the process and focuses on the future.
    D. He boosts his self-esteem by comparing with others.
    33. Which of the following suggestions will Professor Dweck give to parents and teachers?
    A. To reward children for their high grades.
    B. To emphasize the importance of intelligence.
    C. To ignore the result brought by failure.
    D. To praise children for their engagement in the process.
    34. What does “These children” in the last paragraph refer to?
    A. Children showing no interest in learning.
    B. Children who use fixed mindset techniques.
    C. Children from much more privileged backgrounds.
    D. Underperforming school children on a Native American reservation.
    35. Why does the author write the text?
    A. To distinguish growth mindset and fixed mindset.
    B. To inform readers of the importance of growth mindset.
    C. To show several psychological study results.
    D. To point out a problem in education at the moment.

    28. D 细节理解题。根据第一段第一句“Kazunori Takishima has been traveling the world to support Japan at every Olympic Games for the past 15 years, so he intended to see the event in his home city of Tokyo.(在过去的15年里的每一届奥运会,Kazunori Takishima一直在环游世界以支持日本队,所以他打算在自己的家乡东京观看这项奥运赛事)”可知,Kazunori Takishima的梦想是去东京奥运会现场观看的各项比赛。故选D项。
    29. A 推理判断题。根据第一段最后一句“But when a ban on audience was announced, that dream was over.(但当宣布禁止观众(入场观看)的禁令后,这个梦想就破灭了)”,可知东京奥运会严禁观众到现场看比赛;第二段“He had spent nearly $40,000 on 197 tickets for him and his friends to see as many events as possible during Tokyo 2020, which started on July 23.(在7月23日开幕的2020年东京奥运会上,他花了近4万美元为自己和朋友买了197张门票,以便尽可能多地观看赛事)”,以及第三段第一句“It took an unbelievable amount of time, effort, and passion(这花费了令人难以置信的时间、精力和激情)”可知,Kazunori Takishima花费很多时间、精力和金钱去购买奥运会的门票,但是因疫情观众不能进场,所以他的努力都白费了。故选A项。
    30. C 词句猜测题。根据前一句“Takishima’s love for the Olympics started in 2005 when he saw a figure skating competition for the first time and immediately bought tickets for the 2006 Torino Olympics in Italy.(Takishima对奥运会的热爱始于2005年,当时他第一次看到一场花样滑冰比赛,并立即购买了2006年意大利都灵奥运会的门票)”可知,Kazunori Takishima从2005年第一次看到花样滑冰比赛后,就想看2006年意大利都灵奥运会比赛,表明他喜欢看这个比赛。该词后面的“It inspired him so much that he has been going to the Olympics ever since.(从那以后,他就一直去观看奥运会)”可知,他对奥运赛事非常感兴趣,着了迷,可推断划线词infatuated意为“着迷的”,与interested意思相近。故选C项。

    4.1(2022河北省邢台市高三下一模试卷C篇)
    【参考答案】28. B;29. D;30. C;31. A;
    【详细解读】这是一篇新闻报道。本文主要介绍了PaRx,这一健康方案的目的及实施中遇到的问题。
    28. B 细节理解题。根据第一段第二句“A new program launched last month in Canada gives some doctors the option of providing patients with a free annual pass to the country's national parks as part of an effort to increase access to nature and the health benefits.(上个月,加拿大启动了一项新计划,让一些医生可以选择向患者提供免费的国家公园年票,作为增加接触大自然和提高健康福利而做出努力的一部分)”及第二段第一句“PaRx, a health initiative launched by the BC Parks Foundation in 2019, partnered with Parks Canada to provide doctors across four provinces with an initial run of 100 passes that can be prescribed.(PaRx,是由BC公园基金会2019发起的一项健康方案,该方案与加拿大公园合作,初期为四个省份的医生提供了100个可以用于处方的通行证)”可知,PaRx这个方案是用来给患者发放免费公园通行证的。故选B。
    29. D 词句猜测题。根据划线词所在句“Doctors utilizing the new national parks pass program are urged to prioritize patients who might not otherwise be able to afford these passes.(使用新的国家公园通行证计划的医生被敦促要优先考虑那些可能负担不起这些通行证的患者)”中的后半部分可知,医生被要求给收入不高的患者优先发放免费通行证,由此可推知,医生首先得有这一项目的使用权才能给患者发放,因而划线词“utilizing”表示“使用”与“Carrying out执行”意思相近。故选D。
    30. C 推理判断题。根据最后一段内容“While only 100 adult passes, which give holders access to more than 80 national parks, historic sites and nature reserves, have initially been made available, organizers plan to routinely reassess this number as the program grows, the BC Parks Foundation told NPR(BC公园基金会告诉NPR,虽然只有100个成人通行证,让持有者可以进入超过80个国家公园、历史遗迹和自然保护区,但随着项目的发展组织者计划定期重新评估这一数字)”可知,目前的通行证数量不多,但组织者会定期评估数据做出调整,由此推知,这样就会有越来越多的人因此受益。故选C。
    31. A 主旨大意题。本文主要介绍了PaRx,这一健康方案的目的及实施中遇到的问题,结合第二段第一句“PaRx, a health initiative launched by the BC Parks Foundation in 2019, partnered with Parks Canada to provide doctors across four provinces with an initial run of 100 passes that can be prescribed.(开处方)(PaRx,是由BC公园基金会2019发起的一项健康方案,该方案与加拿大公园合作,初期为四个省份的医生提供了100个可以用于处方的通行证)”可知“PaRx, a Nature Prescription Program.(PaRx,一个自然处方方案)”可以概括文章内容,适合作为本文标题。故选A。

    4.2(2022河南省高三下核心模拟卷III, C篇 )
    【参考答案】28. C;29. A;30. C;31. A;
    【详细解读】 这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了日本的本田公司为视障人士研制的内置于鞋子里的智能导航系统,该系统将极大地改变他们的生活。
    28. C 词义猜测题。根据画线词前“... the device vibrates (振动) to provide navigation. When the user should go straight, the vibrator positioned on the front part of the foot vibrates, and when the user is approaching a right or left turn, the vibrator on the right or left side vibrates to...(……该设备通过振动提供导航。当用户应该直走时,位于脚部前部的振动器会振动,当用户接近右或左转弯时,位于右侧或左侧的振动器会振动……)”可知,该智能导航系统通过振动告知使用者方向。由此可推断,画线词的词义与Inform“通知,告知”的意思最为接近。故选C项。
    29. A 段落大意题。通读第三段,尤其是“... which makes it possible for the user to walk more safely and with a more relaxed state of mind. Having navigation provided through vibration on the foot is also useful in that it does not bother the user’s hand which is holding a walking stick, or ears used to listen to surrounding sounds.(……这使得用户可以更安全地行走,心情也更轻松。通过脚上的振动提供导航也很有用,因为它不会打扰手持拐杖的手或用来听周围声音的耳朵)”可知,第三段主要介绍了该智能导航系统的益处——它能让使用者的出行更安全并让他们心理放松,此外它还可以解放使用者的双手和耳朵。故选A项。
    30. C 推理判断题。根据第四段“Because it matters. In Japan alone, the number of people with visual impairment including low vision was estimated to be 1.64 million as of 2007, and the number is forecast to increase to nearly 2 million by 2030.(因为它很重要。据推算,仅在日本,2007年就有164万名低视力等视力障碍患者,到2030年将增加到200万名左右)”可知,如今视障人士越来越多,市场对该智能导航系统有需求,因此丰田公司决定开发一款这样的导航系统。故选C项。
    31. A 推理判断题。根据最后一段“I am sure that we will face many challenges as we work toward the market launch of Ashirase; however, we’re bound to overcome them to realize the freedom of mobility for visually impaired people.(我相信,在向市场推出Ashirase过程中,我们将面临许多挑战;但是,我们必须克服这些障碍,才能实现视障人士的行动自由)”可推断,Wataru Chino对于将该智能导航系统推向市场这件事满怀信心。故选A项。

    5.1(2022黑龙江省哈尔滨市高三二模试题D篇)
    【参考答案】32. A;33. D;34. B;35. D;
    【详细解读】 本文为一篇说明文。讲述了我们的大脑是一个词汇学习机器,研究者用N400来研究了大脑是如何处理我们所遇到的单词组合,并且提出学习语言时,应选择适合自己水平的读本。
    32. A 推理判断题。根据文章第一段首句“You may not know it, but your brain is already an amazing vocabulary learning machine.(你可能不知道,但是你的大脑已经是一个很好的词汇学习机器。)”可知,后文举例说明你的大脑是一个很好的词汇学习机器,故第一段的目的是为了陈述我们的大脑是词汇学习机器的这个事实,故选A。
    33. D 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“The N400 is relatively small for expected word combinations, like coffee and cream, and increases in height for unexpected word combinations, like coffee and cap.(对于预料中的单词组合,比如说咖啡和冰淇淋,N400相对来说比较低;但是对于预料之外的单词组合时,比如说咖啡和帽子,N400就会增加。)”可知,如果N400上升的话,那就意味着我们遇到了意料之外的单词组合,故选D。
    34. B 细节理解题。根据文章倒数第二段“To get better at this, we need to flood our brains with loads of natural content, so we can build up a picture of which kinds of words usually appear together.(为了更擅长这点,我们需要让我们大脑充满自然的语言内容,这样的话,我们就能在大脑里建造一副图片,图片里是哪些单词通常一起出现。)”可知,如果我们想要像本土人一样的N400模式,我们需要读很多的自然语言内容,故选B。
    35. D 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“Graded readers, which are books adapted to make them easier to understand at lower levels, are perfect for learners of foreign languages.(分级读本对于外语学习者来说是最好的选择,因为它们是改编读本,主要是为了较低水平的阅读者能更容易理解。)”可知,在选择阅读读本时,我们应该根据自己的水平选择适合的读本,这样的话才有利于学习,故选D。

    5.2(2022江苏省高三仿真模试卷II, D篇)
    【参考答案】 32. C;33. D;34. D; 35. A;
    【详细解读】本文是一篇说明文。文章通过举例“对同一个问题的不同反应”来引出主题——成长心态和固定心态。引用了心理学家们的理论和实验结果来对成长心态和固定心态进行区别,并且侧重了成长心态的重要性。
    32. C 推理判断题。根据第三段“B: Ah, this is quite tricky, but I like to push myself. Even if I don’t get the answer right, maybe I’ll learn something in the attempt.(B:啊,这有点棘手,但是我喜欢逼一下自己。即使我没有得到正确的答案,也许我会在尝试中学到一些东西。)”可知,B答案的同学会积极地面对问题,并且尝试从中学习到一些东西,这是一种积极的反应;结合第四段“Early in her career, the psychologist Carol Dweck of Stanford University gave a group of ten-year-olds problems that were slightly too hard for them. One group reacted positively and loved the challenge. She says they had a ‘growth mindset’ and are focused on what they can achieve in the future. (斯坦福大学(Stanford University)的心理学家卡罗尔·德韦克(Carol Dweck)在她职业生涯的早期给一组10岁的孩子提出了一些对他们来说稍微太难的问题。其中一组反应积极,喜欢这项挑战。她说,他们有一种“成长心态”,专注于未来能取得的成就。)”可知,对于困难的问题能做出积极反应的孩子会享受这个过程,关注未来。所以一个人的答案接近B答案的话,那么他会享受这个过程,关注未来。故选C。
    33. D 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Professor Dweck believes that …outstanding achievement.(德韦克教授认为,目前的教育存在问题。多年来,孩子们一直因他们的智力或天赋而受到赞扬,但这使他们很容易失败。他们变得以表现为导向,想通过取得高分来取悦他人,但他们对学习本身不感兴趣。根据Dweck的说法,解决方法是引导他们成为以掌握为导向的人(也就是说,有兴趣在某件事上做得更好)。她认为,长期不懈的努力是取得卓越成就的关键。)”可知,Dweck教授认为掌握一件事是非常重要的,并且要长期坚持不懈地努力,由此可推知,她给到父母和老师的建议是表扬孩子们在这个过程中的参与。故选D。
    34. D 指代猜测题。根据最后一段“Psychologists have been testing these theories. … as the key to learning.(心理学家一直在测试这些理论。在美国印第安人保留地,表现不佳的学生接触了一年的成长心态技术。结果简直令人难以置信。他们在地区测试中名列前茅,击败了那些拥有更多特权背景的孩子。这些孩子以前觉得努力是愚蠢的标志,但他们逐渐把努力看成是学习的关键。)”可知,他们测试的对象是这些underperforming school children on a Native American reservation(美国印第安人保留地的表现不佳的学生),由此可知此处的these children指的是“美国印第安人保留地的表现不佳的学生”,故选D。
    35. A 推理判断题。根据第一段“Think back to when … you reacted?(回想一下你在数学课上,老师出了一道难题。下面两种反应哪一种更接近你的反应?)”可知作者以这个问题和两种回答引出本文的主旨,既第四段提到的“She says they had a ‘growth mindset’ and are focused on what they can achieve in the future. But another group of children felt that their intelligence was being judged and they had failed. They had a ‘fixed mindset’ and were unable to imagine improving. (她说,他们有一种“成长心态”,专注于未来能取得的成就。但另一组孩子觉得他们的智力被评判了,他们失败了。他们有一个“固定的心态”,无法想象改善。)”所体现的成长心态和固定心态。并且后文还通过心理学家们所做的实验及其结果来证明两者之间的区别和影响,由此可知,作者写这篇文章是想要说明“成长心态和固定心态”的区别,故选A。
