The plicy is an imprtant step in China’s bsting f mre well-runded educatin practices. In additin t prviding cmpulsry educatin, China is als wrking t develp an educatin system that enables yung peple t create a mral, intellectual, physical and mental grunding. China’s educatin system had becme increasingly exam-riented (应试教育) in recent decades due t the desire f achieving high scres in high schl and the cllege entrance examinatin. It cntributed t an excessive burden n primary and junir-high schl students.
The plicy f easing study burden aims t help educatin recver its essential purpse with schling as the crnerstne f the system, scial educatin as the supplement and family educatin as the fundatin, s as t better educate talents fr the cuntry.
The plicy may bring back well-runded educatin; hwever, the mtivatin t receive and ffer exam-riented learning will last as lng as exam scres remain the standard f entry t high schls and clleges. There is still a lng way t g fr China t change frm exam-riented t well-runded educatin.

(2022·江苏无锡·高二期末)Sun Ruifeng, a mther in Beijing, changed sme f her plans fr her 8-year-ld sn’s summer vacatin. She lked fr an English tutring curse, but in the end, she changed it t a swimming training class. “Due t the stricter regulatins (章程) n subject-tutring classes, many parents like me chse sprts r ther prjects fr develping interests instead,” Sun said.
Sun’s chice is part f the result f the gvernment’s grwing effrts t lighten the academic pressure n yung students. On July 24, Chinese authrities intrduced a guideline t ease the burden f t much hmewrk and ff-campus tutring fr primary and junir high schl students. It lists requirements in areas such as reducing the amunt and the difficulty f hmewrk and imprving the quality f educatin and after-class services prvided by schls. Fr example, hmewrk fr children belw the third grade is nt allwed, while hmewrk fr junir high schl students shuld take n lnger than 90 minutes t finish.
Accrding t the guideline, tutring institutins (辅导机构) cannt teach students cntent that is t advanced fr the schl curriculum (课程). N tutring curses can be taught n weekends, natinal hlidays r during winter and summer vacatins. The mves aim t bring educatin back as public welfare and guide the educatinal training industry t fcus n imprving students’ all-rund quality, Chen Xianzhe, a prfessr at Suth China Nrmal University, tld Xinhua.
Accrding t Glbal Times, mre than 75 percent f Chinese urban children, frm grade 1 t grade 12, are enrlled (报名参加) in tutring prgrams. Hwever, sme training institutins take part in anxiety marketing, selling unnecessary prgrams that increase the burden n students.
