But sometimes bystanders’ understanding, and sometimes their words or actions can make a positive difference. One mom experienced this firsthand. This mom was obviously pregnant and traveling alone with her young son at a Los Angeles airport. Then things took a turn for the worse. The boy, about 18 months old, according to Beth, a Facebook user, was running all over the place, kicking, screaming, and lying on the floor, unwilling to get aboard the plane. His mom did her best to calm him down, but Beth said, “She couldn’t pick him up because he was so upset. He kept running away from her, then lying down on the ground, kicking and screaming again.” Finally, the mom was at her wit’s end. She sat down on the floor next to her son, buried her face in her hands, and began to cry. Then the most amazing thing happened.A group of six or seven women, Beth included, circled around the mother-son pair and did something to help. Beth sang him “The Itsy-Bitsy Spider.” Another offered an orange. Another gave him a toy she had on hand. Another helped get his cup out of Mom’s bag. Yet another tended to Mom by offering her a water bottle. With the help of these women, the kid and his mother calmed down and were able to board the plane. And then life moved on. All of the strangers went their separate ways without speaking of what had happened. But Beth said it was something she’d never forget. “We were strangers, gathering to solve something,” she wrote. “It occurred to me that a circle of passers-by, with a mission, can save the world.”What are the bystanders supposed to do according to the first paragraph?A. Laugh at the parents. B. Give parents some advice.C. Comment on the situation. D. Be kind and offer help.25. What does the underlined part “was at her wit’s end” probably mean?A. Made up her mind. B. Felt worried and totally at a loss.C. Gave up and ran away. D. Collected her thoughts and calmed down.26. Which of the following can best describe the scene in paragraph 5?A. Alarming. B. Exciting. C. Romantic. D. Warm.27. What can be a suitable title for the text?A. Strangers can help out. B. Beth, a great mom.C. Women can save the world. D. Let’s care for children.CThere is more that comes with older age than greying hair and wrinkled skin. When humans reach their later years, they prefer long-term friends and their social circle is reduced. Now, for what seems to be the first time, scientists have seen the same behaviour in another species. Twenty years of observations of chimpanzees (黑猩猩) show that older males choose to hang out with their long-term friends at the cost of other relationships. The researchers studied 78, 000 hours of observations made between 1996 and 2016 that followed the social activities of 21 male chimpanzees between the ages of 15 and 58 years old. They divided the chimps’ relationships depending on the amount of time they spent with others. They then rated the various relationships as mutual (相互的) friendships, where both chimps seemed to enjoy the relationship; one-sided friendships, where one chimp was more willing to be friends than the other; and non-friendships, where neither chimp showed interest in the other. When the scientists looked at the types of friendships, they found that the older chimps had more mutual friendships and fewer one-sided friendships than younger chimps. Another feature seen in older humans was also found in the chimps. As the males got older, they started fewer fights and tended to threaten others less often. The observations have left the researchers puzzled. According to a theory in psychology, older humans prefer more positive relationships because they realize time is running out. But many animal experts argue that chimpanzees don’t have the human sense of death, suggesting something else is driving the behaviour.Robin Dunbar, a professor of evolutionary psychology at the University of Oxford, said that in humans, the decrease in social circles is due to reduced desire to get out and meet people combined with less opportunity. In chimpanzees, as older males compete less for females, they may focus on close and beneficial relationships with trusted partners, she said. What is the study mainly about?A. The way to observe chimpanzees.B. The looks and behavior of old people.C. Older chimpanzees’ preference in social life.D. Older chimpanzees’ relationship with people. What can we learn from the third paragraph?A. Researchers studied three decades’ observations.B. Researchers only focused on the older chimpanzees.C. Researchers followed 21 female chimpanzees.D. Researchers divided the relationships into three types.30. What do older humans and older chimpanzees have in commonA. Worry about their looks.    B. Reduce fights with others.C. Make more new friends.    D. Realize the loss of time.31. Which factor contributes to the reduced social circle of older male chimpanzees?A. Less chance to play outside.   B. Not having the human sense.C. Less competition for females.   D. Not valuing the relationship.DIn recent years computer scientists have come up with several different ways of creating false videos of people using Artificial Intelligence (AI). These videos are usually called “deepfakes”. Some deepfakes work by putting the face of one person onto a different person in a video. Others work by taking an existing video of a person and changing it so that the person says or does something they didn’t say or do.At first, creating deepfakes was complex. It required special knowledge, hundreds of pictures of the person who was being faked, and lots of time. Now its much simpler. There are websites and apps that allow almost anyone to create deepfakes. An app recently came out which allowed users to put their faces into famous movie scenes. The process takes about eight seconds, requires one picture, and can be done on a mobile phone. One group of computer scientists created a program that allowed them to edit the words coming out of someones mouth in a video just like you might edit a document on the computer. However, the popularity of deepfakes may cause anxieties. It’s one thing to change the faces of famous actors. But what happens if someone puts out a fake video of a politician, for example, making it look like he broke the law? Theres also the problem of the time it takes to figure out that something is fake. Even if a video is proven to be fake, it could be too late. Millions of people might have already seen and believed it. On the other hand, what happens if a video is actually real, but people don’t trust it because they’re told it’s a deepfake? Many deepfakes are so good that only another AI system can tell that they’re fake. Experts are working hard to create new AI tools that can identify faked videos. Many people are confident that people can defeat deepfakes soon. However, personally, it is very challenging because this technology has always fallen behind the deepfakes.32. What does the author focus on in the first paragraph?A. The way deepfakes work. B. The way to create false videos.C. The way deepfakes are named. D. The way to use Artificial Intelligence.33. How does the author develop the third paragraph?A. By making comments. B. By following time order.C. By providing examples. D. By explaining the difference. 34. What is the author’s attitude towards developing AI tools to identify deepfakes?A. Positive. B. Indifferent.  C. Worried.  D. Critical.35. What’s the author’s main purpose in writing the text?A. To stress technology development.  B. To introduce deepfakes and the effects.C. To recommend a new application.  D. To explain the importance of deepfakes.第二节(5小题; 每小题2.5分,满分12.5)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Protein plays an important role in anyone’s health. But if you’re trying to build muscle, you’ll have to take more of it. The following is an introduction to what you should pay attention to about eating protein. If you think the more protein you eat, the more muscle you will get, think again. It is possible to have too much of it.   36   And you should be aware that eating too much protein that cannot be used can lead to some unpleasant results.   37  It can be difficult to say how much is too much, as protein needs can be different so greatly from person to person. For common persons it’s generally best not to take more than 2 grams per kilogram of body weight.   38    39   Of course, they do. Protein can come from many kinds of foods, including protein from animals and plants. But the sources that are the most useful for building muscle are these with amino acids (氨基酸).   40   They include meat, fish, dairy, soy beans, and seaweed. When making any change to your food, it’s always a good idea to talk to your doctor. What’s more, if you’re uncertain about the protein needs, you may want to talk to a doctor to get some personalized suggestions.Do the sources of your protein matter? For example, it may damage your liver. These bad results, however, can be ignored. These foods are known as complete proteins. You can get amino acids from eggs, meat and so on.Therefore, it’s important to know how much you really need. However, it may be safe for an athlete to take more than that. Tan Yuanyuan, San Francisco Ballets first Chinese leading dancer,   41   audiences with her performance in the CCTV Spring Festival gala,   42   the Year of the Ox. If she got them all right today, she would win her class’s Spelling Challenge and a brand new dictionary. What’s more, Mrs. White had promised to sing a song if anyone got a perfect score.Another three words left. N-i-c-e-l-y. Q-u-i-c-k-l-y. H-o-n-e-s-t-y. Wait! She had spelled honesty, not honestly. She hurriedly erased the t-y and wrote l-y before handing in her paper.Mrs. White graded her test papers during the break. In the meanwhile, Jane sat nervously in her seat with her fingers crossed. Then, Mrs. White walked to the front of the room, cleared her throat and started to sing.“Congratulations, Jane! You did it!” She announced while singing.  The whole class burst into applause! Mrs. White herself presented Jane with her prize. Jane grinned (咧嘴笑) as she read the note on the dictionary:  To Jane, for her perfect performance.“Everything OK?” Mom asked as Jane burst through the front door after school. Jane didnt answer. As if by magic, she took out her spelling test paper and prize and showed them to her mother. Mom hugged her, asking her to put the test paper on the fridge so that Dad could see it when he got home.  Jane took another look at the test paper before putting it on the fridge. Her hands stopped in mid-air. She just couldnt believe her own eyes. Honesly?Yes! H-O-N-E-S-L-Y  Mom sensed something unusual and asked why. Jane squeezed (塞进) the test paper into her backpack and explained that she was just too excited. Mom brought her some tea. Yes, a “t” was exactly what she needed.
