【教材分析】
Module 9的主要内容为运用一般将来时的被动语态来描述伟大的发明,包括造纸和印刷术的发明,电脑的出现和网络的广泛使用。从全书来看,本模块承接上一模块对被动语态的学习和运用,着重一般将来时被动语态的使用,让同学们通过课堂活动来掌握其用法。
【教学目标】
Knowledge and Skills
- Students will be able to understand some new words and phrases in meaningful sentences through guessing game: printing, spread, introduction, development, trade, result, compare…to, wait and see, amount, store, etc.
- Students will be able to have the opportunities of practicing the structure of future simple passive voice.
- Students will be able to consolidate the reading skill of getting the main idea and gaining the detailed information about the great inventions.
Procedure and Method
- Students will be able to increase the ability of problem-solving through individual work and group work.
- Students will be able to know how to summarize one paragraph through a chart.
Emotion, Attitude and Values
1. Students will be able to understand that great inventions must need knowledge, creative ideas, efforts and time.
2. Students will be able to develop the ability of critical thinking through debate activity.

【教学过程】
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in (3 mins)
T: Share some gift pictures of possible inventions by the year 3000. Let students recognize each invention’s function.
S: Look at the pictures and tell the future inventions’ functions.
Purposes: To arouse students’ attention and curiosity, and to introduce the lesson’s topic naturally.
Step 2 Pre-reading (5 mins)
T: Organize a guessing game to introduce some new words or phrases and introduce the topic words—paper, printing, and smart machines.
S: Look at the sentences with new words and phrases, and guess the three inventions.
Purposes: To make students prepared for new vocabulary in meaningful context and to elicit the passage’s topic gradually.
Step 3 While-reading (21 mins)
- Fast reading:
T: Ask students to go through the passage quickly to match each paragraph with its main idea, and give a tip “finding the key sentence of each paragraph”.
S: Go through the passage quickly, and with each key sentence, match the main idea with each paragraph.
Purposes: To give the tip in scanning and to train their quick reading ability.
- Careful reading:
T: Let students read the passage in details paragraph by paragraph. Give different related exercises of detailed information following reading each paragraph.

S: Read the passage paragraph by paragraph and finish each exercise.
Purposes: To train students’ skimming ability and to keep students’ reading interest by varying types of exercise.
- Deep reading:
T: Show a blank chart about the advantages of both traditional books and the Internet. Lead students in thinking and speaking out the advantages while filling the chart on the blackboard.
S: Look at the chart and think about the issue individually and cooperatively. Speak out the opinions.
Purposes: To train students’ ability of critical thinking and sharing their own ideas. To create a deeper understanding of the passage.
Step 4 Reading Aloud (5 mins)
T: Play the video about the passage and let students just listen for the first time. Give students some time to rehearse. Assign different roles to read the passage.
S: Look at the video and then rehearse a little. Read aloud the passage.
Purposes: To improve students’ ability of listening and speaking. To let students pay attention to their own pronunciation.
Step 4 Post-reading (8 mins)
T: Separate the whole class into two groups. Organize a debate about “Which do you prefer? Traditional books or reading online?” Present the debate rules and show the chart in deep reading as a reminder.
S: Understand the debate rules and start debate.
Purposes: To give students opportunities to give output and to improve their speaking ability.
Step 5 Summary (2 mins)
T: Raise a question “How to make inventions?” Present the possible answers: receiving knowledge, efforts, attitude and actions, time and gain which then will be helpful to complete the word GREAT.
S: Understand that Great Inventions should need knowledge, efforts, attitude and actions, time and finally, gain.
Purposes: To cultivate students’ emotion and values. To summarize what have been learnt through the passage.
Step 6 Homework (1 min)
T: Show four pictures and let students introduce the advantages and disadvantages about the Internet. The number of the words should be around 80.
S: Know the writing homework.
Purposes: To give opportunities to improve students’ writing ability.
