1.一起出现的几个首字母大写的单词:它可能是个专有名词,不需要知道其意思,只需要知道它是某个事物的名称即可;
[2021·全国新高考卷Ⅰ阅读 C]About 98 cents of every duck stamp dollar goes directly into the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund to purchase wetlands and wildlife habitat for inclusion into the National Wildlife Refuge System — a fact that ensures this land will be protected and available for all generations to come.
D]The right level of background noise may interrupt our normal patterns of thinking just enough to allow our imaginations to wander, without making it impossible to focus.
The right level of background noise;本句的主干为:The right level of background noise may interrupt our normal patterns of thinking。
析成分
句中的just enough修饰interrupt, to allow our imaginations to wander是不定式短语作结果状语;without making it impossible to focus是介词短语作结果状语。
C]Southbank, at an eastern bend in the Thames, is the center of British skateboarding, where the continuous crashing of skateboards left your head ringing.
Southbank is the center of British skateboarding
B]That said, to be honest the only people who ever ring our home phone are our Baby Boomers parents, to the point where we play a game and guess who is calling before we pick up the phone.
提主干
本句的主干为:the only people are our Baby Boomers
who引导定语从句修饰主语the only people; to the point 是介词短语作状语,where...the phone是由where引导的定语从句,修饰point,此定语从句中又包含由who引导的宾语从句(who is calling),作guess的宾语。
Then when they come to other doors in life, be they real or metaphorical, they won't hesitate to open them and walk through.
提主干
本句的主干为:they won't hesitate to open them and walk through
when they come to other doors in life为时间状语从句
be they real or metaphorical为插入语,对other doors进行补充说明
[2020·浙江7月高考阅读C]It's not just corporate jobs, or even paid work that can help keep your brain fit. Then points out. A waiter's job, for example, that requires multitasking, teamwork and decision-making could be just as stimulating as any highlevel office work. And “running a family household requires high-level planning and coordinating (协调),” she says. “You have to organize the activities of the children and take care of the bills and groceries.”
Although/Though A ... B, While A...B, Despite A...B 等结构中,作者强调的是B。
[2021·新高考卷Ⅰ阅读D]Although popular beliefs regarding emotional intelligence run far ahead of what research can reasonably support, the overall effects of the publicity have been more beneficial than harmful. The most positive aspect of this popularization is a new and much needed emphasis (重视) on emotion by employers, educators and others interested in promoting social wellbeing.
[2020·浙江7月高考阅读C]Of course, our brains can decline as we grow older for lots of reasons-including other environmental influences or genetic factors. Still, continuing to challenge yourself mentally and keeping your mind busy can only help.
[2020·新高考全国卷Ⅰ阅读B]Jennifer now is married and has three children of her own. She decided to go back to college to advance her career and to be able to better support her family while doing something she loves: nursing. She chose the UWEau Claire program at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield because she was able to pursue her fouryear degree close to home. She could drive to class and be home in the evening to help with her kids. Jennifer received great support from her family as she worked to earn her degree: Her husband worked two jobs to cover the bills, and her 68yearold mother helped take care of the children at times.
[2021·新高考卷Ⅰ阅读A]Rome can be pricey for travelers, which is why many choose to stay in a hostel (旅社). The hostels in Rome offer a bed in a dorm room for around $25 a night, and for that, you'll often get to stay in a central location (位置) with security and comfort.
Yellow Hostel
If I had to make just one recommendation for where to stay in Rome, it would be Yellow Hostel. It's one of the bestrated hostels in the city, and for good reason. It's affordable, and it's got a fun atmosphere without being too noisy. As an added bonus, it's close to the main train station.
21.What is probably the major concern of travelers who choose to stay in a hostel?
A.Comfort. B.Security.
C.Price. D.Location.
分析:题干中含有定语从句who choose to stay in a hostel,故可以根据这个限定成分缩小定位范围:Rome can be pricey for travelers, which is why many choose to stay in a hostel (旅社).

[2021·重庆市第二次调研]Recently Meituan copublished a proposal with a number of business organizations, including China General Chamber of Commerce and China Cuisine Association, calling on restaurants to stop food waste and help cultivate new eating habits for customers. “Restaurants should innovate means of publicity using official accounts on social media and livestreaming to promote and advocate foodsaving actions,” the proposal said.
Meituan and the organizations are advocating that merchants offer guidance for consumers, including reminding them during the ordering process about the taste of the ingredients, portion sizes and other information about the dishes, to help them avoid food waste due to misleading information.
Catering (饮食服务) associations in more than 18 provinces have also joined the campaign to eliminate food waste. The China Cuisine Association announced that it had teamed up with Ele. me, the Alibaba Group Holdingowned food delivery platform, to launch a “halfdish plan”, encouraging restaurants to provide customers with the option to order smaller portions. The Wuhan Catering Association proposed an “N—1” ordering code for restaurants in which a group of 10 diners would only order enough for nine people. More food is only brought to the table if required.
To curb portrayals of food waste on social media platforms, popular Chinese video platforms such as Douyin and Kuaishou have stepped up content reviews of foodrelated live streams and implemented regulation of online eating shows. Now if users search certain key words, such as “eating show” or “competitive eaters”, a cautionary message pops up to remind them to cherish food and maintain a reasonable diet.
4.Why did Meituan start such a proposal?
A.To popularize itself.
B.To save itself.
C.To mislead the public.
D.To prevent food waste.
5.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.Wuhan Catering Association's proposal was a good practice.
B.The “halfdish plan” functioned better than the “N—1” ordering code.
C.Meituan met with some management challenges.
D.Customers are required to order smaller portions.
6.Which of the following is true?
A.Meituan releases some misleading food information.
B.More food is welcome when we treat our dear friends.
C.Few organizations realized the importance of food waste.
D.Online eating shows are monitored via media platforms.
7.How many good means of avoiding food waste are mentioned here?
A.None. B.Two.
C.Three. D.Five.

To me, love is the most important thing. What could be more healing than love?”
These words, like lines from a poem, are easy to agree with coming from Robin, who founded the Bumi Sehat Bali Clinic in central Ubud, the setting for the film Eat Pray Love. Now the clinic provides treatment or educational support for over 100,000 people annually.
Giving birth to her first child at nineteen, Robin moved to Hawaii after college, working for several years on a farm, where she taught farming practices and poetry. But in 1991, she received heartbreaking news. Her idyllic life on the farm in Hawaii was turned upside down when her sister, expecting a child in Alabama, died of pregnancy complications
“When my dear sister passed away, I realized mothers were dying everywhere. In countries with increased poverty, some people can't afford to go to the hospital. What motivated me initially was my love for my sister, but this soon grew into a concern for mothers and children all over the world.” Robin's feelings for her sister were transformed into a desire to help women everywhere in need.
To ensure that children are born healthy, nutritionally balanced meals are provided for expecting mothers free of charge. Those who lack housing are free to stay as long as it is necessary. The clinic also sees patients of all ages who have symptoms unrelated to childbirth, while providing facilities for language learning and IT education, and annually training over 6,000 nursing and midwifery (助产) students, backed by a scholarship program.
Just as Robin said, love is to be found inside the Bumi Sehat Bali Clinic. Perhaps feelings of showing kindness toward others and wanting to make the world a better place are the key to a brighter tomorrow.

[2021·济南市11校联考]The Indian government declared an “emergency situation” in New Delhi on Sunday as air pollution hit dangerous new highs and people had the selfies (自拍) to prove it.
Officials announced a series of measures to fight against smog in the capital city, including halting construction projects, closing a coalfired power factory for 10 days and washing the dusty roads. The citizens, meanwhile, took “smog selfies” as they walked through dirty air which could taste and smell. Some selfie photographers joined hundreds of protesters in downtown New Delhi to demand that the government deal with the deadly smog.
New Delhi, already one of the world's dirtiest cities, is experiencing its worst smog in nearly two decades. The city saw levels of PM2.5 of more than 900 micrograms per cubic meter on Saturday. That's more than 90 times the level that the World Health Organization considers safe and is 15 times higher than the Indian government's standards.
Particulate (微粒的) matter comes from vehicles, coal factories, burning trash piles, dust and other sources. New Delhi's severe pollution was initially blamed on the widespread bursting of firecrackers during the festival Diwali. But images published by NASA last week suggested that crop burning in the neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana could be the reason for the increasing levels of PM2.5. New Delhi's chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, said that farmers in those states begin burning straw at the start of every winter to clear their plants for planting wheat.
The pollution can lead to lung cancer, heart disease and related illnesses, particularly in growing children. Kejriwal said people should avoid going outdoors until the pollution levels drop and should work at home as much as possible. Of course, they should put down the selfie sticks, too.
5.What does the underlined word “halting” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Stopping. B.Encouraging.
C.Protecting. D.Changing.
6.What can we know from the text?
A.The poor condition in New Delhi has led to a strike.
B. New Delhi is one of the most polluted cities in the world.
C.A lot of people especially children died of smog in New Delhi.
D.Kejriwal suggested that people stop working to deal with smog.
7.What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A.Images of people living in New Delhi.
B.Levels of PM2.5 in most cities of India.
C.Sources of particulate matter in New Delhi.
D.Measures taken by the New Delhi government.
8.What's Kejriwal's attitude towards smog selfies?
A.Doubtful. B.Supportive.
C.Uncaring. D.Opposed.

[2021·全国卷甲阅读C] When I was 9, we packed up our home in Los Angeles and arrived at Heathrow, London on a gray January morning. Everyone in the family settled quickly into the city except me. Without my beloved beaches and endless bluesky days, I felt at a loss and out of place. Until I made a discovery.
Southbank, at an eastern bend in the Thames, is the center of British skateboarding, where the continuous crashing of skateboards left your head ringing. I loved it. I soon made friends with the local skaters. We spoke our own language. And my favorite: Safe. Safe meant cool. It meant hello. It meant don't worry about it. Once, when trying a certain trick on the beam (横杆), I fell onto the stones, damaging a nerve in my hand, and Toby came over, helping me up: Safe, man. Safe. A few minutes later, when I landed the trick, my friends beat their boards loud, shouting: “Safe! Safe! Safe!” And that's what mattered — landing tricks, being a good skater.
When I was 15, my family moved to Washington. I tried skateboarding there, but the locals were far less welcoming. Within a couple of years, I'd given it up.
When I returned to London in 2004, I found myself wandering down to Southbank, spending hours there. I've traveled back several times since, most recently this past spring. The day was cold but clear; tourists and Londoners stopped to watch the skaters. Weaving (穿梭) among the kids who rushed by on their boards, I found my way to the beam. Then a railthin teenager, in a baggy white Tshirt, skidded (滑) up to the beam. He sat next to me. He seemed not to notice the man next to him. But soon I caught a few of his glances. “I was a local here 20 years ago,” I told him. Then, slowly, he began to nod his head. “Safe, man. Safe.”
“Yeah,” I said. “Safe.”

[2020·浙江卷7月阅读C]Challenging work that requires lots of analytical thinking, planning and other managerial skills might help your brain stay sharp as you age, a study published Wednesday in the journal Neurology suggests.
Researchers from the University of Leipzig in Germany gathered more than 1,000 retired workers who were over age 75 and assessed the volunteers' memory and thinking skills through a battery of tests. Then, for eight years, the scientists asked the same group to come back to the lab every 18 months to take the same sorts of tests.
Those who had held mentally stimulating (刺激),demanding jobs before retirement tended to do the best on the tests. And they tended to lose cognitive (认知) function at a much slower rate than those with the least mentally challenging jobs. The results held true even after the scientists accounted for the participants' overall health status.
“This works just like physical exercise,” says Francisca Then, who led the study.“After a long run, you may feel like you're in pain, you may feel tired. But it makes you fit. After a long day at work—sure, you will feel tired, but it can help your brain stay healthy.”
It's not just corporate jobs, or even paid work that can help keep your brain fit. Then points out. A waiter's job, for example, that requires multitasking, teamwork and decisionmaking could be just as stimulating as any highlevel office work. And “running a family household requires highlevel planning and coordinating (协调),” she says. “You have to organize the activities of the children and take care of the bills and groceries.”
Of course, our brains can decline as we grow older for lots of reasons—including other environmental influences or genetic factors. Still, continuing to challenge yourself mentally and keeping your mind busy can only help.

Lawrence Anthony, a legend (传奇人物) in South Africa and author of three books including the bestseller The Elephant Whisperer, bravely rescued elephants and other wildlife all over the globe, including the courageous rescue of Baghdad Zoo animals in 2003. [2021·青岛市统一检测]It might seem strange to be making predictions about 2021, but one thing is clear: technology has been affected just as much as every other part of our lives. Another clear thing is that today's most important technology trends will play a big part in helping us deal with and adapt to the many challenges facing us. From the shift to working from home to new rules about how we meet and interact in public spaces, technology trends will be the driving force in managing the change.
One of the major technology trends that are likely to play out this year is 5G and enhanced connectivity. Each successive advance in mobile connectivity from 3G onwards has unlocked new use cases for the Internet. 3G made web browsing and datadriven services useful on mobile devices, 4G led to the growth of streaming video and music platforms as bandwidths (宽带) increased, and 5G, similarly, will open more doors in terms of what is possible.
5G means that services relying on advanced technologies such as augmented (增强的) reality and virtual reality, as well as cloudbased gaming platforms like Google's Stadia, become a practical thing, anywhere at any time. They also threaten to make cable and fiberbased (光纤) networks redundant,__with their need for us to be tied to a particular location.
In short, 5G and other advanced, highspeed networks make other new technologies available anywhere, any time. A great example is Norwegian fishery operator Salmar that uses a 5G network to automate the care and feeding of its fish. Image recognition algorithms (算法) are used to detect which fish are over or underfeeding, and automatically distribute food and medicine needed to keep them healthy. Initiatives like this will become increasingly important during 2021, where businesses look to increase automation across their workforces.
5.Which of the following is highly influenced by 5G technology?
A.Datadriven services. B.Streaming video.
C.Music platforms. D.Google's Stadia.
6.Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “redundant” in Paragraph 3?
A.Useful. B.Unnecessary.
C.Expensive. D.Special.
7.Why is “Salmar” mentioned in the text?
A.To show the development of Norwegian fishery.
B.To explain how to keep fish healthy.
C.To present the application of 5G technology.
D.To propose new initiatives for businesses.
8.What is the text mainly about?
A.Different predictions of technology trends.
B.Successive advances in mobile technology.
C.One of the technological highlights of the year.
D.The driving force in managing changes.

◆The underlined word/ phrase...probably means / can be replaced by...
◆Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word/ phrase?
◆What does the underlined word “...”in Paragraph...probably mean?
[2020·新高考Ⅱ卷阅读B]The end of the school year was in sight and spirits were high. I was back teaching after an absence of 15 years, dealing with the various kinds of “forbidden fruit” that come out of book bags. Now was the spring of the water pistol (手枪).
I decided to think up a method of dealing with forbidden fruit.
....
My imaginary Grandma's Box worked like magic that spring, and later. Sometimes students would ask me to describe all the things I had in it. Then I would try to remember the different possessions I supposedly had taken away — since I seldom actually kept them. Usually the__offender would appear at the end of the day, and I would return the belonging.
25.What do the underlined words “the offender” in Paragraph 8 refer to?
A.The students' parent.
B.The maker of the Grandma' Box.
C.The author's grandchild.
D.The owner of the forbidden fruit.
自主解答:________

[2021·新高考Ⅰ卷阅读C]When the explorers first set foot upon the continent of North America, the skies and lands were alive with an astonishing variety of wildlife. Native Americans had taken care of these precious natural resources wisely. Unfortunately, it took the explorers and the settlers who followed only a few decades to decimate a large part of these resources. Millions of waterfowl (水禽) were killed at the hands of market hunters and a handful of overly ambitious sportsmen. Millions of acres of wetlands were dried to feed and house the everincreasing populations, greatly reducing waterfowl habitat (栖息地).
29.What does the underlined word “decimate” mean in the first paragraph?
A.Acquire. B.Export.
C.Destroy. D.Distribute.
自主解答:________

[2020·全国卷Ⅰ阅读B]While I tend to buy a lot of books, these three were given to me as gifts, which might add to the meaning I attach to them. But I imagine that, while money is indeed wonderful and necessary, rereading an author's work is the highest currency a reader can pay them. The best books are the ones that open further as time passes. But remember, it's you that has to grow and read and reread in order to better understand your friends.
26.What does the underlined word “currency” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Debt. B.Reward.
C.Allowance. D.Face value.
根据“...while money is indeed wonderful and necessary, rereading an author's work is the highest currency a reader can pay them.”
自主解答:________
举例时,常常会用一些连接性的词,如such as,like,for example,for instance等。
[2020·北京卷阅读D]Certain forms of AI are indeed becoming ubiquitous. For example, algorithms (算法) carry out huge volumes of trading on our financial markets, selfdriving cars are appearing on city streets, and or smartphones are translating from one language into another. These systems are sometimes faster and more perceptive than we humans are. But so far that is only true for the specific tasks for which the systems have been designed. That is something that some AI developers are now eager to change.
42.What does the underlined word “ubiquitous” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Enormous in quantity. B.Changeable daily.
C.Stable in quality. D.Present everywhere.
自主解答:________

[2021·全国卷甲阅读C]Southbank, at an eastern bend in the Thames, is the center of British skateboarding, where the continuous crashing of skateboards left your head ringing. I loved it. I soon made friends with the local skaters. We spoke our own language. And my favorite: Safe. Safe meant cool. It meant hello. It meant don't worry about it. Once, when trying a certain trick on the beam(横杆), I fell onto the stones, damaging a nerve in my hand, and Toby came over, helping me up: Safe, man. Safe. A few minutes later, when I landed the trick, my friends beat their boards loud, shouting: “Safe!__Safe!__Safe!” And that's what mattered—landing tricks, being a good skater.
29.What do the underlined words “Safe! Safe! Safe!” probably mean?
A.Be careful! B.Well done!
C.No way! D.Don't worry!
根据画线词后文的解释说明“And that's what mattered—landing tricks, being a good skater.

25.What does the underlined word “stumbles” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Improper pauses. B.Bad manners.
C.Spelling mistakes. D.Silly jokes.
以及“...Vote for...me...”

[2020·浙江卷7月阅读B]The traffic signals along Factoria Boulevard in Bellevue, Washington, generally don't flash the same length of green twice in a row, especially at rush hour.At 9:30 am, the full red/yellow/green signal cycle might be 140 seconds. By 9:33 am, a burst of additional traffic might push it to 145 seconds. Less traffic at 9:37 am could push it down to 135. Just like the traffic itself, the timing of the signals changes.
That is by design.Bellevue, a fastgrowing city just east of Seattle, uses a system that is gaining popularity around the US: intersection (十字路口) signals that can adjust in real time to traffic conditions. These lights, known as adaptive signals, have led to significant declines in both the trouble and cost of travels between work and home.
25.What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Increased length of green lights.
B.Shortened traffic signal cycle.
C.Flexible timing of traffic signals.
D.Smooth traffic flow on the road.
第一步 确定题干中的关键信息:the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 2
Just like the traffic itself, the timing of the signals changes.

[2021·青岛市期末考试]I did an experiment last week. No, nothing involving test tubes or beakers (烧杯). Instead, I experimented with not watching the news right before I went to bed.
This is a longtime habit of mine so it's probably not surprising that the first couple of nights I got a little twitchy when news time rolled around and I wasn't watching. To distract myself, I went to bed a little earlier and read. Wow, what a treat that was! I love to read but I don't always make the time for it so this felt quite luxurious. On the nights I didn't read, I spent a little extra time petting my dog, Henry. He loved it. There's never enough ear scratching for him. The compromise nights were when I had a book in one hand and was petting the dog with the other. Happy all around!
The funny thing about happiness is that it's a whole lot easier to feel when you're not being bombarded (轰炸) by images of bad news. It's not like skipping the late news means that I don't know what's going on in the world. I still do read, listen to, and watch news stories. Just not right before I go to bed. That makes it easier to fall asleep and then stay asleep without dreaming about crime, wars, or natural disasters. (Although that dream I had about going to the prom might count as a natural disaster!) It's definitely a much gentler way to end the day. I like it so much that I'm going to not only continue the no news before bed practice, but I'm also going to experiment with turning off other electronics earlier in the evening, things like the computer and smartphone.
Do you have any experience with turning off your electronics early in the evening? Does setting a particular time, like digital Quiet Hours, work? Please share any tips you have. Something tells me that this could be a little more challenging for me than no news.
1.What does the underlined word “twitchy” mean?
A.Angry. B.Sad.
C.Anxious. D.Pleased.
2.What did the author do to distract himself from watching news?
A.To treat himself with snacks.
B.To read to his dog.
C.To turn off the TV.
D.To read in bed.
3.What's the result of the author's experiment?
A.He had more time to walk his dog.
B.He was less exposed to images of bad news.
C.He was cut off from the current world.
D.He had nightmares.
4.What does the author intend to do by writing the text?
A.To encourage the readers to cut down time on electronics.
B.To gather the readers' advice in watching TV.
C.To share the effect of watching news.
D.To tell the readers the importance of reading.

Nothing is “new and improved” anymore. It's all about the plus.
“Something exciting is happening in March,” flowed out an email from CBS All Access, alerting subscribers that the streaming service is being renamed Paramount +. The company seeks to keep pace with Apple TV +, ESPN +, Disney +, BET +, AMC + and others.
Video services didn't start this. The Apple Ⅱ + came out in 1979 and Crest + toothpaste in 2002. But TV streaming companies now apparently must be branded plus, for fear that consumers perceive their offerings as a minus (减). Much of this has to do with justifying a monthly charge for television—which used to be free. A more complete name would be “Paramount + a Bill”.
Hulu used to have a “plus” service, which was a misnomer (误称) since what customers got with it was the absence of ads. “We've had fun with our old friend Plus,” the company explained in a 2015 email, “but it's time to move on. We just wanted to let you know that we are retiring the Hulu Plus name. From now on, we will just be known as Hulu. No ‘Plus’.”
Yet other streaming services have been drawn to the plus, thanks in large part to the success of Disney +, which added 86 million subscribers during its first year. Disney also operates ESPN + and, outside the U.S., Star +.
A funny thing about marketing: A plus is always a plus but a minus is never a minus—even though more products are notable for what they cut down. Budweiser wouldn't call its lowercalorie beer Bud -. There are fatfree potato chips and cookies, but Pringlesor Oreosis abandoned.
Americans have a fondness for plussize portions, plussize clothing and media that have plus signs in their names. Mercifully, the plus thing hasn't yet reached more important aspects of our lives.
5.What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Apple service. B.Video service.
C.Plus service. D.Streaming service.
6.What can we learn about Hulu?
A.Hulu has no ads put in.
B.Hulu no longer follows suit.
C.Hulu suffered a great loss.
D.Hulu cheated its subscribers.
7.Why wouldn't Budweiser call its lowercalorie beer Bud -?
A.To avoid misunderstanding.
B.To improve the beer's quality.
C.To keep pace with other companies.
D.To protect the consumers' interests.
8.What's the author's attitude towards the trend?
A.Objective. B.Critical.
C.Tolerant. D.Skeptical.
